Caleb Porter, Tim Bezbatchenko, and Crew96 are all trending on twitter in Cleveland. Even with a few inaccuracies, it's great that Akron Men's Soccer is getting some web attention with our connections in these tweets/articles.

Warshaw: On possession, pragmatism and Caleb Porter's return to Ohio ... The last time Caleb Porter coached in Ohio, his team played the best soccer you’ve ever seen on American soil. They were a team that built from the back, passed through the midfield and combined in the final third. They dared teams to pressure them and then humiliated them when they did. Pass, move, pass, move — chase, chase, chase — thank you very much. The midfielders looked calm and controlled. The attackers oozed confidence, grace, and creativity. Their soccer made the heart sing. In his seven years at the University of Akron, Porter won an NCAA national championship and made northeast Ohio one of the stopping points for elite talent in America. The college game is… different from the professional level, no doubt. But regardless of the level, the Zips left a mark on anyone who watched them play. ...

Columbus Crew SC names Tim Bezbatchenko as President and announces Caleb Porter as Head Coach ... Prior to his time in MLS, Porter, who holds a U.S. Soccer Federation “Pro” license, served as head coach of the University of Akron from 2006-2012. During that span, Porter compiled a record of 123-18-17, guiding Akron to one NCAA College Cup (2009), seven consecutive Mid-American Conference regular-season Championships (2006-2012) and four MAC Tournament titles (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012). Porter earned several honors during his tenure as Head Coach of the Zips, including National Soccer Coaches Association of America National Coach of the Year (2009), NSCAA All-Ohio Coach of the Year (2008, 2009, 2011) and MAC Coach of the Year (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012). While head coach of the Zips, Porter also worked as the head coach of the U.S. Under-23 Men’s National Team from 2011-2012. Prior to that, he spent three years as an assistant coach on the U.S. U-18 National Team from 2009-2011, also while working for the Zips. ...

Yes. I think all will be well-served by another season with the Zips. -
TORONTO AND COLUMBUS MAKE FRONT OFFICE MOVES Very positive article about Tim Bezbatchencko. I'm looking forward to the resurgence of the Crew and the establishment of the "Ohio Derby" between FC Cincy and CrewSC.

Armchair Analyst: 2019 Mock Superdraft v1.0 Prediction... #18 Columbus Crew Abdi Mohamed RB - AKRON Columbus need fullback depth, and so they turn to a local program to draft a local kid. Something tells me the new Crew SC head coach will have an affinity for Akron products as well.. -
Marty Bezbatchenko (1976 Akron QB, Tallmadge, OH) is Tim Bezbatchenko's uncle. Tim's grandmother was a UA professor and is a current season ticket holder for Zips Men's Soccer, Men's Basketball, and Football (I believe). Another uncle of Tim's is a Zips Men's Soccer and Men's Basketball season ticket holder. I sat with both of these great Zips fans at the College Cup in December just like at First Energy Stadium - Cub Cadet Field...felt like a home game. With Captain Wil Trapp, Head Coach Caleb Porter, Assistant coach Pablo Moreira, and President Tim Bezbatchencko, the 2019 Columbus Crew has significant ties to UA. --- the reason I started this thread.

Inspiring story about Diogo Pacheco
Zip_ME87 replied to TennZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Just a reminder to ZipsNation to please keep Diogo Pacheco in your thoughts and prayers. He will be undergoing his radiation treatments while back in Portugal before returning to UA this month. I hope all goes well. -

2019 MLS Combine and SuperDraft
Zip_ME87 replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
EDIT: My bad, I looked at the list but didn't read the caveat Ives included in his write-up ... "...as well two more top prospects, Manny Perez and David Egbo, who could still be signed to the group." Modified post: I thought Ives was reporting David Egbo among signed GA players because of the list he posted in his mls draft article below. https://sbisoccer.com/2019/01/sbi-2019-mls-draft-big-board-version-1-0 -

As a full member of the MAC, I don't believe Akron can pull out of the conference for a sponsored sport. The MAC would have to drop Men's Soccer first. Steve1982's solution is interesting if both conferences would be open to it.

2019 MLS Combine and SuperDraft
Zip_ME87 replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Thanks again to @TennZip for pointing me to this: The MLS SuperDraft is Coming: Who Loons fans should care about ... A more possible defensive pickup would be Akron’s Abdi Mohamed. The Ohio native spent three years as a box-to-box type with Ohio State, but looking for an added challenge he joined a Zips side that promptly threw him in as a right back. His technical ability showed in his new position, helping to anchor a young defense that made a surprise run to the 2018 NCAA College Cup Final. His versatility in being able to fill two positions of need could serve him especially well in Minnesota, with the added potential of being a face for a team reaching out to the Twin Cities’ East African community. ... -

Still awaiting the official 2019 Generation Adidas announcement which has to be coming in the next few days given that the Combine begins this week/weekend. Thanks to @TennZip for sending me this: https://www.goal.com/en-us/news/amaya-robinson-to-headline-mls-generation-adidas-class/23ke1chi5oh81q0pqi2y4gi52 Last updated 12 hours ago ...Akron University [cringe] forward David Egbo is another player who has drawn consideration as a Generation adidas target after scoring 13 goals for a Zips squad that reached the NCAA final four, but as of Tuesday he has not signed a deal. ... -
Warshaw: A 2019 wish for every MLS club ...Columbus Crew SC (Assuming the Caleb Porter deal gets done…) That Porter digs up the “death by one thousand passes” coaching book he buried the last time he left Ohio. When Porter coached the University of Akron, his teams played exceptionally gorgeous soccer. Exceptional is reductive here, too. He never got to the same heights in Portland, even when they won MLS Cup. If the Akron Porter returns, then favorite the Crew on your ESPN+ account. ...
