Speaking of the watch parties...I know it's less work, cheaper, and perhaps more comfortable to watch the games at home. However, I implore anyone in the Akron area who can ... GO TO ONE OF THE WATCH PARTIES. There is no better feeling than to support our team among other fans. For me, being at the watch party for the Elite8 match v Stanford was almost like watching the game at First Energy Stadium-Cub Cadet Field. Also, the team was aware of the watch party at the JAR for the Elite8. They greatly appreciated seeing the support they received from their fans who could not travel; they feed off of that love and support. Please go. Attendance also supports the Athletics Dept. continuing to arrange these for us in the future. Again, Please go. Thanks!
GO ZIPS!!!

By the way, ZIP, the place near the airport of which you were thinking was the Elephant Bar. Unfortunately, it is no longer there.
I've been coming to Goleta once per year over the last couple of years for business. The drive up from LA Wednesday was so familiar, it was almost like being in my own backyard. GPS brought me up CA 1 to avoid the traffic on US 101 through Calabassas, Thousand Oaks, Camarillo, etc. So sad to see all of the burned areas along the coast through Malibu, etc., but you can never go wrong driving up the coast highway...STUNNING! We have such a diverse and beautiful country. I'm glad many on our team are seeing some of its most wonderous areas firsthand this season. I know they're focused and here on business; so, they don't get to do a lot of exploring, but a hotel right on the coast with the coastal range in the background is a great reward for their efforts.

I wonder who from the U of A is working on the arrangements this year.
I don't know who is working the arrangements, but George Van Horne is here in Santa Barbara. I saw him checking into the team hotel yesterday. The UA Athletics Dept. has been doing a great job with this NCAA Tourney run...the watch party at the JAR for the Elite8; the watch parties they've arranged for the College Cup; the pre-game party they arranged here. This is all I ever wanted them to do to support our powerhouse Men's Soccer Program. The players, coaches, and staff work hard and deserve this support for them and their fans!!!

Well, pretty sure this is the place we met on Sunday morning in 2010! Next to the airport. Got to meet George Nanchoff for first time in 30+ yrs, and Dr Proenza leading Tom Wistrcill around the room. Think Tom was pretty new to the job and not the greatest schmoozer. After spending time with him at the 2013 Diamond Head Classic I have a deep respect for his knowledge and talent. BTW -- the spread is on the U.! Open bar on you. ?
This is the same place we met Friday night in 2010.

The weekly free paper here in Santa Barbara, the Independent, has the 2010 Zips on the cover, and a nice article on the upcoming College Cup:

Here's the cover:
WOW. Love it!!! Thanks for sharing. See you Friday. Go Zips!!!

One thing that I think the MAC owes this Zips Men's Soccer team is a Coach of the Year award or some special recognition award for Head Coach Jared Embick. 3 College Cup appearances in 4 years, and not one MAC Coach of the Year award?! What???!!!

Your 400 (exaggeration) posts about this elite program is 399 posts more than what the MAC Twitter account has made about the Zips soccer accomplishments. In fact, that might even be wrong because I believe the one mention on their Twitter was a retweet.
I like to get on the MAC, too when they deserve it. However, they have actually been very supportive, on twitter, of this Zips Men's Soccer run to the College Cup.
The MAC twitter also retweeted a number of @ZipsMSoc tweets as the Zips advanced in this NCAA Tournament.

Posting too much?!! How can one post too much positive stuff about the team he loves?!! Keep up the great work @TennZip Remember, FAN is short for FANATIC!
I've been too busy with work the last few days, especially on travel. So, I greatly appreciate everything you've posted here to keep all of us informed. Heading to LA from Albuquerque tomorrow. Planning to be in Goleta/Santa Barbara on Thursday. Hope to see our team, let them know I'm there, others are coming and that many more are supporting and cheering for them back home. (I'm sure they know, but it doesn't hurt to reiterate to them how much support they have.)
GO ZIPS!!!

So: is anyone going to be joining me in the stands here in Santa Barbara???
I was out running errands this morning wearing my Zips 2010 College Cup T-shirt when I a woman I walked past said "Go Zips!" I turned around and said "Yes, go Zips!" Turns out they (she was with her husband) were soccer fans in general, and knew that the Zips had beat Stanford yesterday. They'd been rooting for Stanford for the sake of the College Cup attendance; it's true that a Stanford appearance would have brought in many locals with Stanford connections, and travelers down from the Bay Area. So I hope Akron can get as many fans out here as possible!
I will be there.

Holy ****. CJOcho Cinco tweeting about Akron is awesome, even though he's a prick (putting it nicely and somewhat board friendly).
He is friend with Zips Men’s Soccer alum Steve Zakuani and has played in Steve’s charity game. I actually think he’s pretty cool these days.

Were there people on both sides of the JAR? I see they ran a video, but it only showed the blue seats side at the end of the match. They need to hype this more.
Some on the other side who had brought their own chairs and some standing. Bleachers were not available. Some also standing along the south bleachers (no bleachers available...just the upper chairbacks shown) and a few from the university in the lower bowl which was closed off. With the men's and women's basketball games today, I'm sure they needed to limit the areas that would need to be prepped.
