There were 3 male Gauchos students who sat in the front of our section last night. I don't know who they were, if they had any connections to Akron, or were there because we're the mid-major in this College Cup of B1G teams + 1, or that they appreciate great Zips soccer. They were fun and seemed to be cheering for Akron. One of them even wore a blue mask (think Lone Ranger type mask)...Gauchos, of course.
The clock for our game counted up (strange that it counted down in the 2nd game). Anyway, at 68:50 they started counting down..."10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1" ... and turned to face all of us ... "69 YAY!!!" Strange, but funny!
You probably had to be there.... We all had puzzled looks on our faces as they started that countdown. But, we were all "high" on what our team was doing on the field; so, who couldn't just love those guys and that bizarre moment.
I thought, hey they have 2 games tonight in which to do this...Perhaps the clock counted down in the 2nd game so that they couldn't do it again... NCAA / ESPN party poopers.

Yes, Willy is here in Santa Barbara and doing his always fantastic job leading our cheers! It's too bad that he cannot be in 2 places at once...he was awesome at the JAR for the Elite8 match. We need another Willy.......Clone...can we get someone to clone Willy, please?
Perhaps they could do a Skype, Facetime, or Facebook Live at the JAR focused on Willy and the Zips fans in attendance at UCSB. The crowd back there could join in. Just need to get a 2nd screen / audio system.

I don't know if others noticed, but the MAC twitter was supporting its best soccer team well. The conference had at least someone in attendance who was tweeting and who interviewed our players and coach after the match.

Awesome match. Good group of Zips fans in attendance. Loud and proud. So much to cheer about. Great to see Michael Nanchoff, Jake Fenlason, and Matt Dagilis among the Zips fans!

Speaking of the watch parties...I know it's less work, cheaper, and perhaps more comfortable to watch the games at home. However, I implore anyone in the Akron area who can ... GO TO ONE OF THE WATCH PARTIES. There is no better feeling than to support our team among other fans. For me, being at the watch party for the Elite8 match v Stanford was almost like watching the game at First Energy Stadium-Cub Cadet Field. Also, the team was aware of the watch party at the JAR for the Elite8. They greatly appreciated seeing the support they received from their fans who could not travel; they feed off of that love and support. Please go. Attendance also supports the Athletics Dept. continuing to arrange these for us in the future. Again, Please go. Thanks!

By the way, ZIP, the place near the airport of which you were thinking was the Elephant Bar. Unfortunately, it is no longer there.
I've been coming to Goleta once per year over the last couple of years for business. The drive up from LA Wednesday was so familiar, it was almost like being in my own backyard. GPS brought me up CA 1 to avoid the traffic on US 101 through Calabassas, Thousand Oaks, Camarillo, etc. So sad to see all of the burned areas along the coast through Malibu, etc., but you can never go wrong driving up the coast highway...STUNNING! We have such a diverse and beautiful country. I'm glad many on our team are seeing some of its most wonderous areas firsthand this season. I know they're focused and here on business; so, they don't get to do a lot of exploring, but a hotel right on the coast with the coastal range in the background is a great reward for their efforts.

I don't know who is working the arrangements, but George Van Horne is here in Santa Barbara. I saw him checking into the team hotel yesterday. The UA Athletics Dept. has been doing a great job with this NCAA Tourney run...the watch party at the JAR for the Elite8; the watch parties they've arranged for the College Cup; the pre-game party they arranged here. This is all I ever wanted them to do to support our powerhouse Men's Soccer Program. The players, coaches, and staff work hard and deserve this support for them and their fans!!!

Think Tom was pretty new to the job and not the greatest schmoozer. After spending time with him at the 2013 Diamond Head Classic I have a deep respect for his knowledge and talent. One thing that I think the MAC owes this Zips Men's Soccer team is a Coach of the Year award or some special recognition award for Head Coach Jared Embick. 3 College Cup appearances in 4 years, and not one MAC Coach of the Year award?! What???!!!

I like to get on the MAC, too when they deserve it. However, they have actually been very supportive, on twitter, of this Zips Men's Soccer run to the College Cup.
The MAC twitter also retweeted a number of @ZipsMSoc tweets as the Zips advanced in this NCAA Tournament.

Posting too much?!! How can one post too much positive stuff about the team he loves?!! Keep up the great work @TennZip Remember, FAN is short for FANATIC!
I've been too busy with work the last few days, especially on travel. So, I greatly appreciate everything you've posted here to keep all of us informed. Heading to LA from Albuquerque tomorrow. Planning to be in Goleta/Santa Barbara on Thursday. Hope to see our team, let them know I'm there, others are coming and that many more are supporting and cheering for them back home. (I'm sure they know, but it doesn't hurt to reiterate to them how much support they have.)
