I personally don't expect Morgan Williams to be eligible in 2007, but Prop 48 does not exist anymore. The article in the Canton Rep about him being Prop 48 is factually wrong.I've been told he may still be able to get qualified for 2007. If he does great. If not, he pays his way through school in the 2007-08 academic year and then goes on scholarship for 2008 assuming he gets qualified and has 4 years to play 4.Knowing that he could very well be qualified, especially by 2008, I think you have to give him mention. Especially since technically it is possible for any player signed at any school to never play.Back a few years Chester Taylor came to UT in the same situation. He sat out his first year as a Prop 48 (the rule was around back then) and then played in '98, '99, 2000, and 2001. He turned out to be a great player, winning the MAC MVP Award in 2001 and is now the starting running back for the Minnesota Vikings. Morgan Williams has a lot better potential on the field of play if he gets his academics in order. Even if he doesn't play in 2007, and in reality he probably would redshirt in 2007 anyway with Jalen Parmele being a senior in '07.The one that gets me that nobody is talking about is wide receiver Kaunda Hancock. The kid had 3 or 4 BCS offers and has great hands. He camped at the University of Michigan in the summer and won the award for the best hands out of the receivers at the camp. Many receivers at that camp signed with BCS schools. He isn't that slow as the guy in the article says either. He just doesn't have 4.4 speed, but not that many receivers do.

Recruiting Notes from Yesterday
rocketfootball replied to Dr Z's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Jalil Carter was recruited by Toledo, but never received an offer. You did sign the following guys that had offers from Toledo though:DE Joe RashLB Aaron WilliamsQB Matt RodgersDB DaVon Moore -
Because Rivals.com does not have RB Gordon Warner as a 3 star, but Scout.com does. And RB Morgan Williams is our other 3 star player and neither Rivals or Scout show him as a UT commit despite it being reported the other day in the Canton Rep.
-
Toledo stole 3-star QB Travaris Cadet (Minnesota verbal) and 2-star RB Adonis Thomas (Kansas State verbal) this morning as both signed. Toledo looks to be up to seven 3-star players in this class.
-
I've heard hype about Sewell and I've heard "he's just decent to good." IMO, Aaron Williams is a better player.
-
Very true, but Chester Taylor was the same way. Had bad grades in high school and came in as a Prop 48 at UT and sat his freshman year. He got his grades up, graduated on time, and is now the starting running back for the Minnesota Vikings. Some guys just need a little bit of motivation. Others just won't succeed. Who knows where Morgan Williams fits.
-
If this is true, it's a great pick up for you guys. He's a great RB. But man, if it's true, that really came out of the blue! That'll give Toledo, what, 5 3-star recruits? That class is looking good. Six that we know of......only five on Rivals though.QB DJ LenehanRB Gordon Warner (Scout.com only)RB Hosea SimpsonRB Morgan Williams (will sit 2007 and if his grades are up he will have 4 years to play 4)WR Kaunda HancockDE/OLB Marlin Parker

No doubt you guys have a very good class coming in. Some of those Pittsburgh area kids are really, really good. Aaron Williams and Da'Von Moore are gonna be defensive stars at Akron if they reach their potential.
-
That makes SEVEN *** recruits for this class. Just wait until tomorrow, hopefully we will get even more. This is the best recruiting class for any team in the MAC since UCF had nine ***s in 2003! To play devil's advocate here........................UCF then went 0-11 in 2004, and despite going 8-5 in 2005 they were just 4-8 again in 2006. They are a total of 11-24 since signing those 9 three star players. The point is that the school with the top class in the MAC usually doesn't win the MAC in the next couple of years despite the ranking by the recruiting services. In my eyes Akron has a great class. However, Miami University has an exceptionally great class and they are not rated that high on the recruiting services in terms of three star players. They have several players that I really believe should be rated higher. And playing devil's advocate to that, you never know how a high school prospect is going to turn out on the playing field in college.

Hill is not qualified yet. Hopefully for Akron he is able to get qualified, but it's not for certain at this point.
-
Morgan Williams is coming to Toledo as a Prop. Will sit out 2007 and earn a scholarship for 2008 if he gets his grades up.
-
I trust myself more than I do a Virginia newspaper. After the rollercoaster ride Vince has taken us on, who knows what tomorrow might bring...but as of today Feb 1st, 2007, I guarantee 100% he reconfirmed his commitment to the Zips. Capn' - I think the article does say that he is committed to Akron......as long as he gets qualified. Otherwise he will go to a prep school and then who knows what will happen for the 2008 recruiting class.

Wayne Jones is still looking at Pitt, Cincy, Akron, and Can't State. All have offered but Pitt, which has only offered a greyshirt.
-
Rivals.com has just upgraded QB Matt Rodgers to three stars. Congrats Zips!

Ahh...a thread wouldn't be complete without a Troll-edo rocket comment. You really consider me a troll? Most of my posts here are about positive recruiting news for Akron. You need to pay attention to your surroundings better.
-
Captain, do you know when Toledo offered him? I've never heard anyone talk about him.
-
Well, looks like her post went over your heads.
-
Rivals is showing him as an Akron commit now. He had some interesting things to say. It sounds like he came to Akron over Toledo because he thought he could play early and thought UT would be a distraction......I assume because of former high school teammates Barry Church, Archie Donald, and Tyrrell Herbert. He said that Toledo seemed "too perfect" and he felt like he would just have fun and not do his school work if he went to Toledo. Now that's one excuse I've never heard before. To much fun at UT???????? Once again, congrats on getting Williams.

BG is staying in the East. The East will have 7 teams and the West will have 6 teams. Rocket...wouldn't you rather have BG in the west with you?Isn't that your big rival?Too bad the way BG keeps getting jacked around.A victim of geography. We still play them every year so it doesn't matter to me if they are in the East or West. The MAC has agreed that they will always schedule UT and BG to play each other despite being in opposite divisions. When they originally moved from the East to West in 2002, they did so with the understanding that they would move back to the East as soon as an opportunity presented itself. When Marshall and UCF left, that was their opportunity. They want to stay in the East. They have a strong alumni presence in Cleveland and their fans can associate with the East teams better. Also, Miami University is their 2nd biggest rivalry behind Toledo.
-
I hear he's pretty talented. I've also heard that he was ready to commit to Toledo after his visit in December, and then Dantonio moved to Michigan State and started talking to him. He is holding out for an offer from MSU and I kind of expect him to get it.

Congrats. UT really wanted him.

Stuff like that is absolutely great for the program. We get kids who actually WANT to play here, instead of being the "backup" school in case they don't sign with some "big-time" school. I see this happening all around the MAC, and the conference looks like it is on the rise, possibly because of the four bowl tie-ins. Right now we have 4 three-star recruits according to Scout.com, while no other MAC school has more than one. According to Rival's, we have 3 three-star recruits and are blowing away the rest of the MAC in terms of recruiting. Those students who wait until the last minute to commit are obviously waiting for an offer from a bigger school, and if we happen to run out of scholarships by then, it sucks to be them. Western Michigan picked up a committment from a 4 star JUCO WR the other day. You'll be amazed at the recruiting all across the MAC. Akron is doing great and probably has the best class on paper right now, but you aren't blowing away the rest of the MAC either as many other schools are doing well. The recruiting in the MAC is much better than it was even 4 or 5 years ago. -

I can't comment on other MAC schools, but Toledo has a few commits that are not listed on Scout, plus we are only going to sign about 15 players this year because we had a very small class graduating and a couple of walk-on's from last year are getting scholarships this year. -

I spoke to someone on campus. Fobbs verbaled a couple weeks ago. It's public now. Rivals has him as an Akron commit after an interview with Ohiovarsity.com
