In the post game interview, Groce was not happy with the Akron defense.

Down 70-50 with 3:06 left. It sounds like this Liberty team is the real deal and plays VERY good defense.

Down by 9 in the second half and the offense has struggled since that 28-21 lead. Let's see how this team responds.

Nice win today. I was a little worried when we were down by 2 with a minute to go, but they made plays in crunch time.

I arrived fairly early to the game with my 7 year old son. They asked him to take the game ball to the ref. As a result, my son and I got to watch the game from the front row, mid-court (As opposed to GA). Besides, the great vantage point, it was interesting listening to and watching Groce throughout the entire game. He was constantly talking to the players. Taking them into the plays, encouraging them, and even getting on them when he didn't like what he saw. I recall a timeout later in the second half where Tribble had a few turnovers and Groce called a time out. There are always teaching moments - even with a huge lead. From what I saw, I think this team has the ability to be special. They just need to continue to work.

According to the Sagarin rankings, Duquesne is ranked 57th, with a strength of schedule of 313. Akron is at 100, with a SOS of 344. Both teams have great records, but have not been tested. I don't think you'll know enough about either team until they play better competition - most likely conference play.

Some games aren't going to be pretty. Sometime you just have to gut out a win. That's seems to be what Akron did today. Take the win and get ready for Concord.
