  1. Don't know in this case, but it is customary for the higher seeded team to play the later game.
  2. A pointy ball field is 53 yards wide; a soccer field is at least 70 yards.
  3. Repository article on Stefan
  4. Let's see if we can do something like this on Saturday!
  5. Anybody on campus with a camera who can show us what's up at the west end?
  6. Great article about the Zips' win on the USF soccer website:USF Bulls
  7. I have been voting twice a day. Once from my home computer and once from my work computer. It must check your IP address.
  8. Anyone have a friend at the game you can call for a halftime score?
  9. Still waiting...There's a free video cast of the UConn Hartwick game if you're looking for something to do while waiting for the Zips to come up.Oops, just realized this is from August 22! Oh well, it's something to do.
  10. Still waiting...
  11. No, the NCAA said that because of field conditions the game would have to be played here...It was added in this years rules, it is our second "home field" each team has one, but most everyone's is actually near their University except us. Luck of the draw they said.Hey can we get a "Z" painted on our field in the center circle like Northwestern has??
  12. Today's NSCAA poll has Akron firmly in the No. 1 spot. The Zips will have to continue to perform this coming weekend against a couple mid-level teams or the bottom will fall out quickly.
  13. Great to see Steve going to Seattle. Congratulations and best wishes as a new chapter in his career begins. BTW, Steve is the second Akron alum to play with Kasey Keller. Former Zip standout Kirk Harwat played with Keller back in '05 over in Germany. They were both with a Bundesliga club called Monchen Gladbach.
  14. Glad to hear about the bus trip. Hopefully we'll have at least three loads ready to go by Sunday morning. I still question the rationale for the move to the opponent's field. "According to NCAA regulations in place for the soccer championships, if it is determined in advance that a match cannot be played at the higher seed’s home field, the site must be moved to the other participating school’s home field." I have scoured the soccer tournament guidebook and can find nothing to support this statement. Perhaps someone can point it out to me.
  15. From the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament Guidelines:"For preliminary-round sites, a team seeded in the top 16 will automatically be selectedas a site, unless the institution did not submit a bid to host or if its field is unplayable. Ifa game involves two seeded teams, the higher seed will host, unless the institution didnot submit a bid to host or its field is unplayable."So it says "unless ... its field is unplayable", fine. But nowhere could I find anything that says the game automatically defaults to the opponent's field!
  16. Anybody catch the Red Bulls v. RSL Western Conference final on Saturday? Former Akron standout Sinisa Ubiparipovic was selected by Red Bulls coach Juan Carlos Osario to start the game. Unfortunately, Sinisa had to leave early in the first half due to a hamstring injury. But Sini has been performing for his club. According to an article on MLSNet.com,"Midfielder Sinisa Ubiparipovic, a second-year pro and 25 years old, had last seen the starting lineup Sept. 6, when the Red Bulls lost at the Fire. Ubiparipovic played some 25 minutes of the 1-1 draw at Real Salt Lake on Oct. 9. When Venezuelan international midfielder Jorge Rojas, the team's playmaker, underachieved, especially in the regular-season finale, Osorio decided to turn to Ubiparipovic to run the show at central midfielder. Like his good friend Sassano, Ubiparipovic has done a tremendous job, not only on the attack, but on defense as well."Oh, by the way, the Red Bulls eked out a 1-0 victory and will play for the MLS cup against our own Columbus Crew next Sunday afternoon at the Home Depot Center. It would be pretty cool if Sinisa got healthy and got to play in that one!
  17. You've got it right except we had a bye the first round. The WVU game was second round.
  18. Today's MAC tourney saw NIU defeating BGSU 2-1, Buffalo over Florida Atlantic 6-0 (ouch!), and Hartwick over Western Michigan 4-0.So tomorrow it will be NIU vs Buffalo and Akron vs. Hartwick.Hartwick was especially dangerous in the air today, scoring twice off of headers on corner kicks. Akron back four, be aware!
  19. And I guess since Maryland and Wake will be going at it in the ACC tourney one of them has to lose. If it is Maryland that might help us, too.
  20. College Soccer News kept Akron at No. 2. A little generous in my book, but Creighton, St Johns, and Northwestern all stumbled a bit last week. Still no chinks in Wake Forest's armor. Maryland should have moved up.
  21. Just posted on the Akron website, Steve-O comes through with two more goals to lead the Zips' charge. Hartwick was getting desperate in the second half, fouling excessively and having one player sent off.
  22. Nothing wrong with drawing conclusions from statistics. I still would like to hear from an eyewitness or two.
  23. 20 minutes of lackluster play midway through the second half sealed the fate of this team.Anyone actually see the game or are we just drawing conclusions from the PSU gametracker?
