Yep.  Thanks for sharing the post, Sarge.

Football & Men's Basketball should not be line-itemed within the Athletics budget.  They should be considered a part of the Advertising/Marketing budget.

"Athletics are the front porch of the university.  It's not the most important room in the house, but it is the most visible." -Scott Barnes, Director of Athletics at Oregon State.

Scott Barnes is a certified moron. Not that I disagree with that statement

If Akron ever wants to be respected at all on a national level, we will need at least one more MAC team to make a jump with us. Buffalo sure seems like the most likely candidate. Go Bulls (for this specific tournament)!

That's complete and utter "Bull" sht. Gonzaga did it in Tacoma, Washington with a student body of like 6k. Akron doesn't need anyone else to be respected.

  3. Hate to see him go but if he and the coaches didn't see eye to eye then it's for the best. Curious to see how he ends up, he really improved over the year. Luckily we'll have some depth next year, and I'm sure this is no surprise to the staff so they'll have a replacement soon enough I'd assume.

The MAC's issue is we have a few above average teams and a bunch of mediocre ones. It's much better to be a top heavy heavy conference like the WCC if the goal is to get multiple bids.

On another note, the season is over now. Can we put to rest the Duquesne - Akron comparisons please?

Yes and no. It's only better to be in a top-heavy conference if you're at the top.

Being a non-revenue sport, I'd be shocked if all other MAC baseball schools offered the full 11.7 scholarships.

I know for a fact YSU does, and I'm 99% sure Kent, OU and Miami do.. Knowing YSU does, I would be very surprised if most teams in the MAC weren't at 11.7 or very close to it.

I've heard that possibly 5 would be UA funded and any additional amounts would come from sponsors.. so let's hope there are some sponsors lined up. These are just from my baseball connections, no UA sources so some here may know more than me on this

  6. To get back on track, since this is a 17-18 thread, and the comment starting this was we were playing our best basketball to end the year.. I think anyone that actually watched the games would agree that was the case. You could make an argument that our best ball was perhaps leading up to halftime of the USC game, but we also had E and Sayles. I'm encouraged by the progress and fight we saw from such a shorthanded team.
