Golfed with a guy yesterday from Pittsburgh, his daughter is considering schools now. He saw my Zippy headcover and asked about Akron and the soccer team... "Akron, it's a lot better of a school then like Can't State right?" I was like heck yeah! Pretty pumped about that. Also another example of the perception outside of Akron being way better than that of locals.

There are still big bowls. 1998 was the last time the Big XII and SEC didn't have a team in the top 4. It's gonna be the SEC #3 team vs the Big XII #2 most years. Not exactly the be all end all of bowls. So the ACC doesn't have a "fixed" opponent every year, but their champ is still in the Orange bowl every year. This one extra bowl isn't going to be their demise. I could see the argument that this is the start of these 4 conferences eventually breaking away (which I still don't agree with, but it could be argued), but to say this extra game is the nail in the ACC's coffin isn't right.

Everything I've read has the ACC as the destination for ND if they were to ever join a conference. I think if that happened, it would turn into a Big 5 landscape. The Big East would be 100% dead.

Not really. The last time the SEC or Big XII didn't have a team in the top 4 was 1998. It's just a glorified Capital One Bowl. But with the Big XII instead of Big 10.

We'll agree to disagree. If we accepted an invite right this second, we'd have 1-2 more years in the MAC for football. That obviously isn't going to happen so we're looking at a couple years in the MAC still. Add a year of recruiting while it's official that we're moving to the BE, plus a couple years of "building" with Bowden, and we'll be okay. All hypothetical of course, but I don't see a reason to wait 5 years.

Suicide? How's the MAC been working? You think after 5 years we'll have a good enough football team to compete in the Big East? We'd still get mauled until we got some BE level recruits. I don't see why we need to wait for the "shake up" to happen. We've been waiting long enough. If we have a chance, go for it.

If the Big East invited us right now, you wouldn't take it? I could see passing up on CUSA, but I think it'd be partially insane to not make that jump if we had the chance.

C'mon GP1, you know damn well we'd recruit better in the Big East. You think UConn made the jump to D-1A football and said "oh well we only have 1-AA players?" Was Cincy remotely competitive before they joined the BE? USF? They didn't even have a program before they went. If it were up to you, they wouldn't have made the jump from no program to the BE (and #2 in the country a couple times) because the talent on hand wasn't good enough to begin with.

Show me a link where every player who's played here in the last 8 years never thought about it. I think that's just as unreasonable. Obviously LeBron isn't the number 1 reason (nor would I hope he would be) for any player to come here. But to say no 17-18 year old kid ever thought about it? One bit? C'mon man!

The thing is, Southern Miss, Marshall, and ECU are better than anything we have. The rest are probably worse than what we have. Very top heavy.

I think anyone that thinks having LEBRON JAMES around our program, playing pickup games, giving the team gear, tweeting about them...has had ZERO impact on any player possibly coming to Akron in the past 8 years is extremely delusional. That is all.
