  1. I agree. At least give him an interview.
  2. SS Antonio Johnson commits to Ball State.
  3. Footballscoop.com says that Colorado State is looking at JD Brookhart.
  4. You are living in a dream world if you think that MAC schools get a bowl payout. Not a dime is shared from these games and there is actually an assessment paid by the member schools to buy slots in the extra bowl games. They bowls pay the league and the MAC writes checks back to ESPN in a money trading operation for the extra bowl slots. Check it out and you will find that this is 100% true. The only money that is made for MAC bowl teams is what comes from the school's who play in the games and what they sell in tickets. There is no actual cash payout. You're wrong, and very ignorant.
  5. Winners win and losers lose. Switching divisions won't alter that. It's a culture at Akron that won't be solved until we get the right people at the top who can then change or replace the people beneath them until a winning culture permeates the entire athletic department. Right now there are pockets of winning culture, but they're not well connected and they can't spread it to the rest of the department.
  6. Temple vs. Wyoming in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl Ohio vs. Utah State in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl WMU vs. Purdue in the Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl Toledo vs. Air Force in the Military Bowl NIU vs. Arkansas State in the GoDaddy.com Bowl I see five winnable games for the MAC. If all the bowls give out their full payout, Akron can expect a check for a little under $275k in bowl payouts thanks to the MAC revenue sharing plan. But don't think of this as some windfall that we can use to pay off Ianello's contract. This payout is expected every year, although it fluctuates slightly, and is built into our budget.
  7. The most glaring problem is a lack of leadership. Somebody has to step up. It's going to have to be one or two of the new guys that take charge because if Nik and Nitro haven't taken control by now they won't ever do it.
  8. Zipsnation is depressed. Come watch coach Kest's team and solve that problem. I know where I'll be Saturday at 2:00, and it won't be the Wolstein Center. Florida State is coming to town and the Zips have a 4-game winning streak.
  9. Then who's pursuing Matt Campbell? Five years ago he was in graduate school. Today, he's already worked his way up to an OC for a D1-A school. Does that answer your question? That does not answer my question. Let me repeat. Who is actually showing interest in Matt Campbell as a head coach at any level of football? Akron.
  10. I would prefer Campbell over Winters. But I would prefer Terry Bowden or Brian Polian over either of them.
  11. Maybe the recruits or their high school coaches are too embarrased to notify the recruiting services, then. It's a recruiting violation for Akron to do it. Has to be the players, parents, or their high school coaches. Edit: We only had 14 seniors this year, and one is returning next season with a medical redshirt. So you have to replace 13 players that are leaving. But you also have to make up for being under the scholarship limit. I don't know exactly how far under we are, but the last count was around 10. So we still need a recruiting class of 20+ recruits.
  12. He should have never have written the original article. There's a reason none of the big news outlets around here said anything (until, of course, he broke the story), and that's that they didn't want to scare Tressel off with some premature media circus. Then this kid comes along looking to get some web hits and his big break, and Tressel gets cold feet at the same time we laid down our offer. This is a lesson in responsible journalism. Don't ruin something for personal gain. P.S. Tressel WAS absolutely on campus Saturday. He just wasn't in the JAR during the basketball game. In fact, he was meeting with Wistrcill for many hours that night. The UA employees that are denying it are lying to you.
  13. On to the semis for Paul Winters. Another week to look for the very best candidate for us.
  14. I kind of want Wayne State to win because it gives us a few more days to evaluate other candidates.
  15. The score is less important to me than his playcalling and motivating ability. How do those look against the supposedly top team in D-II? Is he getting the most out of a team with less talent?
  16. I'll believe it when it happens.
  17. He was paid $2,200,000 per year at A&M. If we doubled what we paid our last coach we could offer him one-third as much money as he was making there. (and he would still be making 50% more than the next closest MAC coach) How could he refuse? Ha ha. He was signed until 2015. So if he came here, he would still be pulling in a good paycheck from A&M on top of whatever we pay him.
  18. Should we look into Mike Sherman? Don't give me the crap about us not being good enough to go after certain coaches. We need to go above and beyond with this coaching search. We need to hire someone who people say is out of our league. We can't afford to settle.
  19. Keeler graduated from Delaware. I doubt he'd ever leave.
  20. New offer: JUCO TE Jesse Milleson Go get 'em, Coach Okruch.
  21. #4 is Jim Dennison. Who else ever had a 10-win season at Akron?
  22. A coach that has a consistent record means that he can't make a team any better than it was when he got there. A coach that starts off taking over a poor team but improves over time better fits out needs. We have yet to see whether Winters can sustain a winning team over the course of years, but at this point that's not even a concern for us.
  23. Getsy has actual coaching experience for a fairly solid D-II team. He was a GA here after graduating and he re-wrote a lot of Frye's records here despite playing only two years.
  24. Carl Pelini expected to take the FAU job. I doubt we even tried to contact him.
