  1. Good stuff. I was surprised at the number of people who came out.
  2. Nice to see James Madison having great success. I have them as the #1 replacement for when Temple leaves the MAC.
  3. Let it sit for a while. Not sure what needs to happen to make it work.
  4. Women's team just finished. Men's team up next.Women's team should have best season in a long time, despite losing possibly their best player in a decade in Kara Murphy.
  5. There it goes. Just turned on.I sent a message to Jeremy Guy, who is the MAC's Director of Communications. Looks like he got things in order.
  6. I get kind of a live-chat thing on the MAC website. No video, though.
  7. Media day starts at 2:00 today. It should be streamed on gozips.comI'm excited for basketball season to start.
  8. We dropped 4 spots but UNC (Lost to Davidson, tied Maryland) and UConn (Lost to WVU, tied Georgetown) only dropped one spot each. What a joke.
  9. Maybe he was impressed by the size of their water tower.
  10. Ianello could lose every game this year and he will still be the coach. Unless some rich booster comes up with the money to pay the remainder of his contract, we are stuck with him. UA does not have the money to get rid of him. Its a classic Catch-22 situation. That's how I feel. That's why I don't waste too much time thinking about it.The only way out before the fourth year of Ianello's way-too-long-of-a-contract is a concerted effort by the fans. There are two breaking points: Either the din grows so loud that it can't be ignored, or the silence grows so deafening that somebody in charge acts to save their job. Since Wistrcill appears content to let things keep going the way they are, only the first option will make a difference before it's too late.We need signs, we need to leave comments on every story printed about the football program, we need to make it clear that we won't just sit back and accept what is happening. Because if there's no outcry, their egos will take it as approval for what they are doing.
  11. It seems as if there's an interesting parallel between us and CMU right now.
  12. New offer: JUCO DE Cory MorrisseyOLB Zaire Anderson commits to NebraskaOLB Hunter Matt commits to Eastern Michigan
  13. What's more relevant to us: JT's record against the SEC or his record against the MAC? We don't need him to go undefeated every year, we just need him to put us into a bowl game and compete every year for the division title in the worst division in the FBS.His name alone gets us recruits better than anyone in the MAC, enough to win most conference games even if his playcalling isn't that great. It gets the program money, both from increased ticket and TV revenue and from people coming out of the woodwork to donate.
  14. Bullsh!t. These players just want an offer as a way of dangling it in front of another school to get them to offer too. They have no intention of ever accepting an Akron scholarship offer. It's a waste of recruiting resources. The coaches in the City Series complain all the time, too, about us not offering their players who couldn't walk-on at a D-II team. And then they tell their actual FBS-worthy players that if we do offer, they shouldn't go here.
  15. Ianello wants to win... eventually. He doesn't care whether we win or lose now. In fact, it appears as if he believes that losing in the present will somehow lead to winning in the future. It's all part of his plan. However his plan never involved establishing a winning culture, and that contributes to why it will fail.
  16. It won't happen but it'd be incredible. Akron would be a Top 25 team within 3 years. Then on probation in 4 years and worse off than we are now in years 5, 6 and 7.......-1It's impossible to be any worse off than we are now. What would happen? We're already winless against the FBS. Even with a reduction of 30 scholarships like USC has, we would still see better players commit based on Tressel's name alone, enough to make a 50-scholarship team better than we are now. We would have higher attendance even if we're winless. We would see nightly reports on every Cleveland TV news station with everyone in the region rooting for us to get better because they want to see Tressel make a comeback. The benefits far outweigh any possible sanctions that might get thrown at us.
  17. It won't happen but it'd be incredible. Akron would be a Top 25 team within 3 years. The timing couldn't be more perfect than after this season ends. OSU will move on to a new coach and so their current staff will be looking for jobs. Bring in Sweatervest and most of them will want to follow him here. Their contracts at OSU mean they'll still get paid.
  18. Sweatervest.
  19. if Ianello (or maybe the OC, I don't know who calls the plays) preferred winning, we wouldn't kick a FG when down 20. Whether you make it or miss, you're still down by three scores. It does absolutely nothing to help you win. It's just basic math. So you should go for the TD because if you get that you can cut it to two scores and then the onside kick is actually meaningful. Our players aren't dumb, they can do the math. They saw that by choosing to kick a FG in that scenario our coach chose losing over winning. To a person with the mindset of our coaches, purposefully blowing the chance to win with plenty of time left gives the staff the opportunity to run the plays that they feel need to be evaluated in a game situation. Halfway through the season they're more concerned with putting together schemes than winning. They're doing the stuff that should be done in the spring and pre-season while other teams have successfully completed most of that stuff by the second week and are putting it into practice to try and win games.
  20. I think that eadership comment was directed at a few people. I ge the feeling that the primary target was Abreu. He has to be the floor general now and leadership is a big part of that. I also feel like it applies to McClanahan and Zeke, who are veteran players on a young team. Zeke is the star, whether he likes it or not, and he needs to at least lead by example on the court and McClanahan is a senior like Nik but he seems more content to take a following role than a leading one. I think that Dials and Futch can teach them all a thing or two about on-court leadership.
  21. Pluto mentions the Zips in the PD.
  22. Just read on Rasor's blog that Tom Gaffney is retiring after putting in 26 years at the ABJ.Thank you, Tom, for all that you've done for the Zips hometown media coverage. And thanks for attending football press conferences after games where you're the only reporter in the room just so that grumpy Zips fans like us have something to read the next morning.
  23. When I watch the games in person I can see that our players have just as much individual talent as their opponents, for the most part. I can also see that opposing teams have a very easy time figuring out what play we're going to run and how to counter it.At the same time, our O-line is so depleted right now that we're going to have to start lining up TEs and FBs at the guard spots just to be able to put five guys in front of the QB. Both of our Centers are out, which is why our snaps went everywhere but into the QB's hands. There's not much you can do as a coach to gameplan for losing 80% of your O-line except to maybe make recruiting that for unit a priority to develop a lot of depth.
  24. How'd he feel about the FG attempt, down by 20 in the 4th qtr? Love cutting the margin from 20 to 17 with 8 minutes left. Nice job Rob. Way to quit. FU and your process. You could see the players' body language after that decision. They gave up because they saw that their coach gave up.Why kick a FG down 20 and follow it with an onside kick??? It's like the coordinators are all on different pages with each other and Ianello.
  25. Santa Barbara loses 3-2 to Riverside.
