  1. It's no secret that the better our non-conference opponents do, the better our own rankings will look. Tonight, we should be rooting for the following: Valparaiso at Georgia Southern 7:30 PM West Virginia vs. Oral Roberts 9:00PM Middle Tennessee vs. Austin Peay 8:00 PM Florida A&M at Georgia Tech 8:00 PM North Carolina A&T at Creighton 8:05 PM VCU vs. St Francis (PA) 7:30 PM Marshall vs. Alabama State 7:30 PM
  2. Even if he is at 100%, I have a feeling that tomorrow will be used to get Egner some developmental time at Center.
  3. I think it should be a matter of who we play and our lineup needs at the time. It's not important who starts a game but who finishes.
  4. Here's the story on the four WBB recruits. They added a lot of height with this class.
  5. The Hiram game saturday offers a breather before we face a tough slate of games. it also offers something positive to wash the taste of Ianello-brand football out. We still have a long way to go, and Hiram offers the team a good opportunity to work things out that the coaches saw from our first real game. I would put Mississippi State at somewhere around the level of a middle-of-the-pack MAC East team, like Buffalo. I would put our opponents after Hiram as better than that, aside from Valpo who is probably a little better than Bowling Green. Duquesne, Detroit, and WVU are all better than Mississippi State is. And all of these games are important in the eyes of the selection committee.
  6. No official word yet. WBB is rumored to have four new recruits that are all signed, but some paperwork needs completed before we can legally announce anything. Not sure what's happening on the Men's side. "Signing day" is a bit of a misnomer, as it's actually an early signing period that lasts over the course of one week. Recruits have until November 16th to send in their Letters of Intent.
  7. ESPN Video highlights (be sure to vote it up and leave a comment)
  8. ABJ preview for the Lady Zips. This season should be a good one.
  9. The truth is that it was just one game. We played harder than the other team and we had more athletic players and that's why we won. For past teams, playing hard wouldn't be good enough to win this game, but this game our athleticism carried us. We saw some flashes of brilliance but not a complete game from anybody, and our team chemistry is still coming together. And it was still enough to control a game against a team that would contend for the MAC championship. As I'm sure Dambrot would tell you, we haven't put it all together yet, not even close. And that's an exciting thought.
  10. Yeah, because it was Brookhart who botched the coin flip and lost to Gardner Webb. And it was Brookhart who kicked 50 players off the team and then complained about a lack of depth. And Brookhart who decided to run a pro offense without any players who could play in it. And Brookhart who chooses to kick field goals when down by 21 points late in games. And Brookhart who lets teenagers decide whether to go for 2 points after a touchdown. Yeah, I see what you're saying. It's obviously all Brookhart's fault. But seriously, how many of Brookhart's recruits are even still on the team, let alone starting? Ianello has his recruits in all the key positions already. It's his team, his players, and his coaching that's losing games now.
  11. Hopefully all three of our recruits will sign today.
  12. MSU fan is begging for info on the Zips at our Scout page. Anyone with a Scout login want to oblige?
  13. New offer: RB Bryan Green
  14. Maybe you didn't understand what I posted. The Men's Soccer team CAN NOT leave the MAC unless the MAC stops sponsoring Men's Soccer. Thanks my prior post was in response to that of the tankSorry, didn't realize that.
  15. Tell that to Notre Dame. They're allowed to be independent. They just can't join another conference for football so long as they're in the Big East for everything else.
  16. Maybe you didn't understand what I posted. The Men's Soccer team CAN NOT leave the MAC unless the MAC stops sponsoring Men's Soccer.
  17. The NCAA has a rule: If your primary conference sponsors a sport that your school also sponsors, then you must participate within your primary conference for that sport. So unless the MAC stops sponsoring men's soccer, we have to play in the MAC.
  18. Think of it this way. We would be paying Ianello NOT to coach here. That's a worthwhile investment.
  19. RB Toneo Gulley commits to play for Navy.
  20. It's supposed to be pretty cold Friday. Perhaps we wanted to play before the temperature gets below freezing?
  21. Looks like Sweich hit the weight room since his time at Akron. I was sad to see him go, but I understand why he left. He just didn't fit into the new style of play that we're about to unveil. He graduated from Akron in just 2 1/2 years and left to pursue his dream of become an air traffic controller. All-around great guy.
  22. Louisville isn't switching to a conference that doesn't sponsor men's Soccer.
  23. The reason I mention this is that top-15 West Virginia is looking for a new home. It would be a huge boost for the conference as a whole.
  24. Looks like Akron will play WMU on Friday, and the winner of the NIU-Buffalo match on Sunday.Hartwick, BGSU, and FAU all miss the tournament, although they are all much improved over last season. Here's the MAC standings:Akron 13-3-3 (6-0-0)Northern Illinois 12-5-0 (4-2-0)Buffalo 8-7-2 (3-2-1)Western Michigan 6-11-2 (2-2-2)Hartwick 5-6-5 (1-2-3)Bowling Green 7-8-3 (1-4-1)Florida Atlantic 5-8-2 (0-5-1)Now here's the RPI as of 10-31-11 (Bold teams made the MAC tournament):10 Akron16 Northern Illinois103 Hartwick126 Bowling Green132 Buffalo141 Florida Atlantic180 Western MichiganI think this shows the need for an 8th MAC soccer team. 8 teams allows you to hold a full 8-team tournament with everyone participating. WMU got lucky with a .500 conference record even though they're the worst team in the MAC. I don't think it's right that Hartwick and BG have to sit out while WMU gets in.
  25. It's finally official: Missouri has been accepted to the SEC.
