  1. I know it's just a pre-season thing, but that's some showing of respect from one of the biggest names in college basketball.
  2. When it comes to athletic spending, Akron has the most efficient department in the country. We get the most out of what we spend. The argument that it's not worth the money doesn't hold as much weight as it would at any other FBS school in the country.
  3. OG Johnny Caspers commits to Stanford
  4. Why does the MWC think that associating with a conference several competitive levels beneath them will enhance their chance at a BCS bid?
  5. But Navy says "get your house in order and you can count us in".
  6. If the Zips struggle out of the gate, then that Canada trip was worthless.
  7. Locally, joining a not-MAC league would benefit, simply to differentiate ourselves from the five other similar-sized state institutions who also happen to be in the MAC. We're all just blended in together as "one of them MAC schools".
  8. With TCU, the Big 12 is back to 10 teams.
  9. TCU is now officially in the Big 12. They accepted the invite and will play there starting next season. Also of interest is that the Big East's presidents had a conference call today and passed a resolution to invite six more schools in order to get to 12 and hold a conference championship game. It's likely that more than a few will be football-only. If Villanova is one, that helps keep the basketball side from getting too gigantic. Rumored to be on the short list are ECU, UCF, Temple, and all three Service Academies.
  10. I started this with the intent of tracking Akron's offers and commitments. We weren't really getting any commitments, so I decided to also track who our offers were choosing over us, and to see who we are attempting to recruit against. Ianello seems to always shoot for the sky early, then progressively offer lower and lower rated recruits when the top ones don't work out. The problem with this approach is that by the time you get to the recruits that would help us at least compete in the MAC, other MAC schools have had months to develop relationships because they didn't spend 70% of their recruiting budgets chasing players with 20 BCS offers. So then we end up with players with no offers that we hope-to-God were just overlooked by every single other D-I school, and weren't offerless for some other, more harmful reason. That's how it played out last year, and it's how things are playing out this year too. I'll be sure to report any verbals that the Zips get, though. Assuming we ever get one.
  11. OG Daron Brown commits to NIU.
  12. Through the first six weeks of the season, the Sagarin ratings are weighted by including pre-season rankings into the calculation, in order to give it some differentiation early on. After next week, the pre-season weight is removed from the formula and the ratings reflect only the actual games played this season. So check it a week from today and see where we stand.
  13. As far as recruiting in-state, there's a bias that the coaches have had to fight since the program's inception. It's slowing fading away thanks to the facilities and the publicity the men's team generates, but it's still there. Akron (both the University and the Women's Soccer program) is regarded more positively out of the state than within our own city and region. Only winning the MAC and making the NCAA tournament can change that.
  14. Five yards past where his teammated missed them.
  15. Chisholm injured his foot before the game. It's why he didn't start. It appears that he aggravated the injury because he's walking with a boot now. Good thing we have a bye week now.
  16. http://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/cur...individual/1013 Huge gap between #1 and #2, but also between #2 and #3. But if he keeps having record-breaking days like the last two games, he'll challenge for the top spot in the nation. And the MAC Media Assocation still won't give him anything better than 3rd team All-MAC...
  17. No score in the 1st OT. This game is the biggest regular season women's soccer game in the MAC.
  18. Attendance last night was terrible when you look at the circumstances. Our biggest conference game, homecoming with many thousands of extra visitors on campus, perfect weather, and we can't break 4k.
  19. I have news for you. We probably would have gottten shut out yesterday, if not for his individual effort to carry us to victory. I'd like to see his efficiency improve. He overthrew that ball in the end zone because he had to throw it early because he was about to get hit. I think everyone else in the stadium saw that. Moore is a better runner than passer. At this point, looking at that and how our offensive talent is distributed, the team would be best off running a Flexbone offense.
  20. According to that, we will be 19 1/2 point underdogs at home against Ohio.
  21. I'll call it progress once Ianello has a better season than Brookhart's final one. Until that happens, it's still a net movement in the wrong direction.
  22. Gameday. ABJ Feature article on Jawon Chisholm Perspective from the opposite sideline, courtesy of the Miami Herald. MAC Report Online article detailing today's game.
  23. Here's a video featuring all of the MAC's second year head coaches. You get to directly compare their attitudes, mannerisms, personalities, and philosophies.
  24. Add another JUCO teammate to the offer list (completely updated on the first page of this thread if you want to check it out): WR Demetrius Wilson
  25. Could it be simply because some less-informed bettors see a 20-point home dog against a Sun Belt team and think it's an easy way to make a buck?
