I started this with the intent of tracking Akron's offers and commitments. We weren't really getting any commitments, so I decided to also track who our offers were choosing over us, and to see who we are attempting to recruit against.
Ianello seems to always shoot for the sky early, then progressively offer lower and lower rated recruits when the top ones don't work out. The problem with this approach is that by the time you get to the recruits that would help us at least compete in the MAC, other MAC schools have had months to develop relationships because they didn't spend 70% of their recruiting budgets chasing players with 20 BCS offers. So then we end up with players with no offers that we hope-to-God were just overlooked by every single other D-I school, and weren't offerless for some other, more harmful reason.
That's how it played out last year, and it's how things are playing out this year too.
I'll be sure to report any verbals that the Zips get, though. Assuming we ever get one.
