  1. It is a way to increase revenue. More college students at games means more concessions sold. You don't lose money for games that don't sell out.
  2. I can't. I also don't remember who was looking for coaches last season. The real question is, "Who else was interested?" There are always discussion on this board about who we should hire. The more important question is, "Who is interested?" Hire Bowden?....What if he isn't interested? etc. Despite there being twenty-two FBS schools looking for a new coach after last season, only two were interested in Ianello: Akron and San Jose State.
  3. "The way we practice is unique because we don’t do scout teams, particularly lineman to do scout teams. We don’t have enough players to use scout teams. We service each other like an NFL team does. Our second defense, per se, will be Temple’s defense going against our first offense." "There been some challenges with that component because you don’t as much time on the opponent as you would with scout teams." We don't have enough players to use scout teams? Or we don't have enough talent? I'll leave that third sentence in the quote for Zipmeister to analyze.
  4. We're not even a third of the way through the athletic year. There's still winter and spring sports to go. It's far too early to call anything a success or failure at this point. I can say with certainty that it is helping student attendance in the lesser-known sports, which is what it was intended to do.
  5. New offer: TE Frank Clark
  6. I don't believe ZachtheZip was attempting to defend ICC (iCantCoach) with that post about the recruit. He was just trying to point out the commit and show a welcome to the young man. Also, he's only a two star recruit so i dont believe it would be a great argument anyhow. I don't recall mentioning anything about the coach at all, how great the recruit might be, facilities, or any type of turnaround. In fact, I mentioned all those tings exactly zero times when informing the board that we just got a verbal from a kind who chose us because he would get to play immediately as opposed to sitting at other schools, which is hardly an endorsement of the talent on our current roster or the coach's handling of that talent.

  8. It's embarrassing to hear your own fans screaming to put him in when he isn't even available. I think we need to bring back the Frye for Heisman campaign. Anybody still have their signs or shirts?
  9. Washington Post article. Playing early was a big factor in his decision. I'm guessing that's going to be a recurring theme with our recruits this year. Also, this quote: "Don't be surprised if Akron continues to make a push for Washington-area players. Zips first-year coach Rob Iannello is a Catholic University graduate."
  10. ATH Jabari Thomas, Archbishop Carroll HS, Washington, D.C.: Rivals profile. ESPN profile. No Scout profile. Verballed to Akron over offers from Cinci, Marshall, and Ohio. Welcome aboard, Jabari. As with all our new recruits, you'll have the opportunity to come in and make a difference right away and maybe even start for four years.
  11. Akron gets a 9th verbal! ATH Jabari Thomas from Archbishop Carroll in Washington, D.C. Chose the Zips over Cincinnati, Marshall, and Ohio.
  12. It explains why he feels no pressure to apologize or call out his staff. There's no external pressure to hold them accountable for anything. Everywhere he's been before, there were legions of reporters and influential alumni who would have ripped him to shreds by now. The only place that's happening for Akron is here on Zipsnation and in the comment section of Rasor's blog. Maybe we should broaden our horizons. ESPN conversations seem like a good start and are easy enough to do.
  13. Only the athlete or the high school coach can report those. The university cannot comment on a recruit or even acknowledge that they are recruiting them until they have signed an LOI.
  14. DE Bryan Baird to Ball State DT Brandon Mitchell to Cincinnati WR Cody Latimer to Indiana DB Ian Wells to Ohio LB Ben Russell to Ohio
  15. Elton's column yesterday. 73 players on scholarship, after the three known defections (I only know Bowers and Morefield for sure; who is the other one?). 16 seniors graduating. There will be a minimum of 28 scholarships available, assuming no more defections, but we can only hand out 25. There are 8 incoming freshmen, I think two greyshirts, and one incoming transfer.
  16. Ianello and Porter to Appear on Monday's Zips Live That's what I get for following Akron Athletics on Twitter. They only mentioned Ianello, and nobody else.
  17. Pay attention on ZipsLive tonight. Ianello gets the full time, not split between another coach.
  18. Luke Fickell Terry Bowden Danny Rocco Mark Stoops
  19. That's actually a great way to downgrade your conference RPI but increase your top couple of teams individual ratings. The easiest way to game the RPI as a conference is for the lower half of teams to schedule for wins. You play more conference games than OOC games, and the individual RPI is based heavily on your opponent's W-L record, so it helps if your conference has a great W-L record more than if your OOC opponents do. Your top teams should play stronger schedules, but your bottom teams only hurt the conference's top teams by doing the same thing.
  20. Find a way to make this happen after the end of the season. It certainly couldn't hurt.
  21. The only one that has been openly confirmed is LeVon Morefield. But to hear more left is not surprising at all. I've been expecting it for a while. More will leave before it's over.
  22. Do you know something here that you would like to share? Patience, grasshopper.
  23. If I wanted to leave and had more than a year of eligibility left, then yes.
  24. Maybe Rob Ryan should be our next coach.
  25. Players who want to start right away instead of sitting on the bench at a BCS school. We wouldn't be competitive against BCS schools but we would at least be able to play with lower and middle MAC schools.
