  1. WMU played the best game of their season, easily. Akron played one of the most uninspired games of theirs. WMU was well coached and had a good gameplan for us. They played for possession and pressed hard on defense, something we try to do every game. That said, we were faster and more skilled at every position but both our passing and spacing was sloppy and WMU took advantage of it. It shouldn't have been that close even without those shots hitting the posts. The goal frame was a better goalie than their keeper.
  2. Right now, the coaching staff has lost control. Even with an ineffective head coach the assistants can sometimes keep control of their individual units enough to make a difference. Right now, that's only happening with a few units. One thing that would gain back some respect for the head coach is if, after the season, he went through and chose not to renew the scholarships of the worst offenders who are sleepwalking and openly acting against the team. That's what the coach at Syracuse did the past two summers in a row. He got rid of the worst of them right after he came in and then dumped the rest after one season and it appears to have paid off greatly. Addition by subtraction might be the solution.
  3. I left after half time to prepare for soccer. Surprised to see Potts in the game. You don't burn his redshirt this late in the season unless you have made the decision to start him for all the remaining games. Not like he can do any worse than what we had. I also arrived at the start of the second quarter. By that time I learned that half the student section had been removed from the game but nobody would say why. If I had been there earlier, I might have joined in whatever they did just to say I was kicked out for showing my passion for the Zips. It would have saved me some time and misery.
  4. Nicely started. Potts finished. Dylan freaking Potts was in at QB but there was no sign of Rodgers. No offense to Dylan, but you don't burn a redshirt to hand the ball to the RB for a quarter with only four games left in the season when you have an upperclassman fully capable of the same thing.
  5. The answer is "not that great".
  6. No mention of a scrimmage on the EKU message board. But it appears that they just moved there from an older one so information might not be there.
  7. Ah, the good old days. have the players quit on the new coach already? It took them six years to quit on JD.
  8. I'm also happy about the lack of Big Ten opponents.
  9. You're being sarcastic, but it's not like they could do any worse.
  10. I checked and it's definitely Lafayette. The Ragin' Cajuns. It would be nice to see LSU come to the Info, though.
  11. Dambrot gives his opinions on the five newcomers. He was pretty specific with what each player needs to work on. Hard to tell who will end up redshirting.
  12. Schedule is filling in, slowly. Apparently we're playing Louisiana in a home-and-home. I believe that "Louisiana" means LA-Lafayette from the Sun Belt. Always good to see more non-BCS teams on the schedule. 2011: @OSU, @UC 2012: @Tennessee, UCF 2013: @UCF, Louisiana 2014: JMU 2015: @ Virginia Tech, @ Louisiana
  13. So, I wanted to find a list of true freshmen and JUCOs showing who has played and who has redshirted. There is no such list but here's my best guess. I can't find any statistics on OL play but I don't recall seeing any freshmen playing in that unit. Played: FB Austin Bailey DE Nick Caponi CB Seth Cunningham TE Richard Hall S Anthony Holmes DB ShelDon Miller LB Nolan Plate WR Antoine Russell WR Keith Sconiers OL Patrick McCloskey (JUCO) Not played: LB Clay Cameron QB Adam Charles RB Jawon Chisholm OT Micah Lio PK John Long QB Dylan Potts TE Anthony Ritossa WR Anthony Schrock S L.T. Smith LB Darius Washington LB Jamar Williams CB Miklos Blake (JUCO) WR Marquelo Suel (JUCO) Players who have stood out to me are Bailey, Hall, Holmes, and Miller. I'm left wondering why JUCOs Blake and Suel haven't played considering the lack of playmakers at their positions. I also thought Schrock and Ritossa would have played by this point.
  14. The Lady Zips soccer team started off this weekend on a good note, beating Can't State 2-1 in double overtime at home.
  15. WMU brings solid offense to Akron I didn't know that we have been outscored 92-26 in second quarters this season so far. Also, I look forward to hearing coach Faust's opinions in the radio booth along side French. Alleman is off tomorrow.
  16. It might be true. But usually pre-season scrimmages are closed to the public and we don't hear about them until after the fact.
  17. The initial press release. Look at these quotes. They never mention about how good of a coach he is.
  18. Rob Ianello's introductory press conference. No reference to cupboards anywhere.
  19. I have to re-log in when I switch computers or IP addresses, which makes sense. Maybe your ISP is switching you between nodes while you're browsing.
  20. Another coach would have beat Gardner-Webb and probably Can't.
  21. It's one thing to be able to evaluate talent and convince players to play under another head coach. It's very different to try and convince them to play for you. This is Ianello's challenge. It's not easy, especially with the reports of the current players being in some kind of rebellion against the coaching staff. It doesn't look good to recruits when your future teammates all hate the coach that's recruiting you.
  22. Back to basketball predictions. The Zips will end the regular season with a record of 31-0. There's not a single team on the schedule that we are hopelessly outclassed by and only one or two where the chance of winning is below 50%. Zeke has turned into an All-American center. Our newcomers have already gelled with the team. It's go time.
  23. Whoa -- just a second. Where's the link saying he's verballed to Akron?? I'll get back to ya on this one. Come on Drew, you wanna be a Zip, we all know that. TopDrawerSoccer's 2012 college commitment page has it. For some reason I can't link to it directly.
