Akron isn't the Yankees. We're the Pirates. It was the football version of Pirates/Indians 2010. And, the Indians discount such games pretty heavily via different packages. K.e.n.t. packed the house for a 1-3 team vs. a 0-5 team. That has to show up on someone's radar. Note: $5 vs. $15 makes a big difference for a family of 4. $20 gets you off the couch. $60 keeps you on it. It absolutely makes a difference!! If it doesn't, then someone please explain to us why some of those old Acme-Zip games could draw 35,000 while the rest of the games in some of those seasons wouldn't even draw 10,000, even if we were winning? This isn't a raving endoresement of discounting tickets. But, it would definitely increase attendance. The question is, would we encounter too many negatives by resorting to such a program? A major discount is great as a 1-off thing, a promotional tool, like the Acme Zip game was. Do you think if prices were like that all year round we would actually average 35,000 every game? Anybody in marketing can tell you that you don't make an actual price cut on a non-essential product without the intention of making it permanent. Maybe if we sold beer at the Info we could afford to drop prices to $12 or something.
-
Then if your team somehow turns the corner, can you justify raising the prices to something more resembling a D-I football team instead of a high school JV game without the fans throwing a b!tchfest?
-
But anyway, their messageboard. And I wonder what our coach could do if he had a real Receiver, like Terrence McCrae.

This is weird, but I think that at OU will be the best game we've played so far. I don't expect a win because I think OU is the best team in the East now that Temple lost Bernard Pierce to injury. But I do expect to look respectable. I don't think we'll see so many bone-headed plays. I do think we'll see some starters from the first half of the season being replaced, especially in the defensive secondary.

Qdoba would be wise to come to UA's campus. or maybe they could move Azteca over from Goodyear Heights. -
Conference averages (rounded to nearest integer): Big Ten (7 teams) - 42 PAC-10 (6 teams) - 50 ACC (9 teams) - 54 C-USA (9 teams) - 62 Big East (16 teams) - 69 Colonial (12 teams) - 75 Ivy (8 teams) - 86 Southern (8 teams) - 87 West Coast (7 teams) - 91 Mountain Pacific (8 teams) - 94 Horizon (9 teams) - 101 American East (8 teams) - 105 Big West (7 teams) - 106 Atlantic Sun (10 teams) - 107 Patriot (8 teams) - 111 Missouri Valley (8 teams) - 112 Mid-American (7 teams) - 113 Atlantic 10 (14 teams) - 132 Northeast (11 teams) - 136 Big South (9 teams) - 142 Southern (7 teams) - 154 Metro Atlantic (10 teams) - 160 Atlantic Soccer (5 teams) - 168 Independent (Alabama A&M) - 201 Can we please join C-USA or the Big Ten for only Men's Soccer yet? If we were in C-USA they would have the same average RPI as the ACC. If we were in the Big Ten, can you even imagine the strength of that league?

Future opponents: Buffalo - 141 Michigan - 43 WMU - 119 Creighton - 14 Cleveland State - 117 Michigan State - 5 Hartwick - 198 There are 204 Division I Men's Soccer teams. Only 6 are worse than Hartwick.

http://www.gozips.com/ Either the poll on the home page has been hijacked, or Zips fans are really dumber than I thought. Are we really overwhelmingly excited for getting Bethune-Cookman in the JAR? Nearly three times over getting Cleveland State? And who (besides Zipmeister) voted for Millikin?

UA buys the Plasma building!
ZachTheZip replied to ZachTheZip's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
Here's the reason: The majority of customers at both the Chapel Hill location and the Highland Square location are UA students. Opening one on campus would see a boom in business at the new one but decimate business at the other two locations, especially Highland Square. Would they have done better to put one on campus instead of Highland Square? Absolutely. But hindsight is 20/20. At the time, UA didn't have nearly as many dorms (neither the Spicer or Exchange dorms were built) and the football stadium was still a pipe dream. Highland Square was offering businesses great deals in an effort to develop a new commercial area, while the Zip Strip was rotting away. It's too late now to change anything, though. Luckily we're in a great position to attract business these days. Hopefully something good moves in. Getting a Penn Station is a good start, and the Pita Pit at 22 Exchange brings a college-town feel there. I think we might be better off getting something that's not a national fast-food chain, but is present is college towns. A 24-hour cereal café would be an interesting addition to an otherwise generic set of restaurant choices. -
That would be Oren Wilson. He will only have one year to play, however.

Josh Cribbs & Julian Edelman. Ben Roethlisberger. And the QB that has verballed to Akron for 2011, Kyle Pohl, might be the kind of QB you're looking for. Not a monster arm, but he can make things happen with his feet. He can evade sacks and turn them into big gains on the ground.

The people who own the local Chipotle franchises have said that they won't put one on campus. I kind of want an Arby's. We need something open 24-7. -
You can vote for up to 3 players. Of course I'm voting for Ampai, but I'm also putting in for Samson Malijani and Phil Bannister. Gotta represent the mid-majors over all those BCS schools, and besides they're not much of a threat to overtake Ampai at this point in time.

Did anyone else see what Nicely did on the end zone fumble?

And the coach definitely should have challenged. I thought all scoring plays were automatically reviewed? -
iCoach has an opportunity to make history....

In ten years, there won't be an FCS like the one we know. Division 1 football is consolidating. There won't be a middle division, rather there will be a scholarship division and a non-scholarship division. FCS was originally split off as a cost-containment measure. That's why it exists. A few teams like Montana, the CAA, Appalachian State and a few others aren't following that, and they are looking to move up. They dominate the FCS and there is even more of a divide between the haves and the have-nots at their level because not every team has the same number of scholarships and some don't have any scholarships at all. The haves are preparing to move to the FBS in an exodus by the end of the decade. At that point, the FCS will transform into what it was originally intended to be: a level for schools who don't want football to drive the athletic department. The FCS playoffs will die or lose their meaning. Montana's AD is the chairman of the FCS playoff committee and he has released a letter expressing doubts about the viability of the FCS in the near future. -

Not without our help. I should have stayed home or went to the soccer game. It would have felt better to not have contributed to the last-gasp desperation attendance drive.

ZachTheZip replied to Big Zip's topic in Akron Zips Football
There is no other level of football. It's either FBS or drop the program. Moving to the FCS simply magnifies the problems we experience now. If football loses money now, in the FCS it loses far more even with the decreased costs. Montana, which draws more than most FBS programs and is a regular in the FCS final four playoffs loses money hand over fist, as revealed by their AD, and is willing to be less successful in the WAC in order to save money even with the extra scholarship costs. Moving down is not an option. -

He was down. And the Can't players were signaling to the refs to call a safety, but nobody blew the whistle. Then Nicely shoved the ball away and a Can't player picked it up, walked into the endzone after 80% of the players on the field thought the play was over, and the refs called it a TD. And Ianello never challenged. -
I believe that this year things will be different.

Zack Stoudt has been offered by Wyoming. It's currently his only offer.
-
Last I heard, we were heavily recruiting his younger brother Cole Stoudt, also a QB and a senior in HS. Maybe we could get both, Zack starting for his two years with Cole learning under his wing ready to come in, after Zack graduates, as a redshirt sophomore.

Umm..You may have forgotten about Auburn. Thought they were in Mississippi. Ever hear of the Egg Bowl? That some kind of omelet?
