  1. Medium.com - Tom Arth the leading candidate for Akron football head coach position Now this is interesting.
  2. Those candidates that ESPN mentions... outside of Getsy they seem to be completely out of left field.
  3. I hope that we at least call Vince Kehres and Luke Getsy. Tom Arth (Head coach at UT-Chattanooga, formerly of John Carroll) is somebody I would take a look at as well.
  4. TV commentator. He was pretty good at it before he got bit by the coaching bug again.
  5. This will be Akron's fifth appearance in the College Cup in the past ten years. UNC has four appearances. Nobody else has more than three.
  6. Swin Team currently ranked #22
  7. CMU loves to run the ball. Despite playing from behind nearly every game, their run and pass yardage per game are about even. Defensively, they allow over 200 yards per game on the ground. If you're looking for a game where our RBs can get something going, it doesn't get any better than this (at least until we play Bowling Green).
  8. Whoops. You are correct. I am a strong believer that his goggles should be in Cooperstown, if nothing else.
  9. Who knows if he can coach, but having a hall of famer as the head coach has to help with recruiting, which is the biggest challenge for any program coming back from the dead.
  10. Look, when you're on a losing streak, any kind of win is a good win. A road win in a rivalry game that goes down to the last snap in OT is a GREAT win, when you're on a losing streak. Momentum is a real thing, and we still have a realistic shot at bowl eligibility.
  11. Bowden said in the postgame that this was his first ever OT win. For one of the most senior coaches in college football, that's hard to believe.
  12. Miami's offense is significantly worse than Akron's, and they lean heavily on the passing game which I think matches up well with the strengths of Akron's defense. Win the turnover battle, win the game. I do think that the bye couldn't have come at a better time this season. Right after playing two P5 teams on the road back-to-back and suffering our first loss in a game where our own mistakes likely cost us the game. Perfect time to work on improving and consistency before conference play.
  13. It was not a bad game for us being on the road against a team with talent roughly equal to or better than the very best MAC teams, but in the end we beat ourselves in a game where we needed to play mistake-free. On the bright side, for the first time in a long while, our biggest problems can be resolved with coaching, practice, film, and discipline and don't just boil down to "major lack of talent/depth" at one or more positions.
  14. Are there any FBS teams out there that had their game cancelled last week from the hurricane that also share a bye week with us?
  15. Chicago Tribune - "3 things we learned from Northwestern's 39-34 loss to Akron"
  16. I've heard that before, but it's difficult to find reliable info. Supposedly he was a player-coach. Different rules back then.
  17. That should do it. A 124 year losing streak broken.
  18. Hold it here. Eat the clock, and finish it with a FG.
