  1. http://www.recordpub.com/news/sports_article/4457658?page=0He doesn't believe the media poll got it right. He also sees that we're so loaded with young talent that we won't be finishing fourth in the East. He says Dambrot is the best coach in the MAC. A broken clock is right twice a day. Glad you've seen the light, Dave.I'm surprised there aren't any comments on there from Can't fans ripping him to shreds.
  2. We have two mascots, in effect. Zippy, and the angry kangaroo from the Fear the Roo campaign.
  3. 1.) Because we don't beat them. 2.) Because their "fans" outnumber us 5-1 in our own city and on our own campus.
  4. They'll probably make a killing. After all, it's not like UA is spending anything on facilities upkeep.
  5. http://www.integrityservicesgroup.com/mac/Sorry I didn't get this up earlier, but I just found out about it today. Unfortunately, the deadline is Oct 31st so you had better hurry. This is a survey created by the Presidents of the MAC schools in unison with Rick Chryst. This may be your ONLY opportunity to share your feelings on the conference with the people who are in a position to do something about it. I really let them have it on the question about dropping to 1-AA. I can promise that they are listening. Now we just need to tell them what we think.
  6. Then how do you interpret the last part of the sentence, ?The important part is the phrase "outside its tie-ins". That means that a bowl with a tie-in to the Big Ten would have to take a team from that conference before taking a team from another conference. A 6-6 Wisconsin would go ahead of a 7-5 NIU.
  7. It will feel more enclosed, just not with stands. Remember that the dorms will be closing it in partially on Exchange, and the Field House kind of provides an enclosure on the north side.
  8. Another weekend without a Zips football game. May as well get used to it. While we can't cheer for the Zips, we can cheer for other teams to win or lose that would help our cause. Obviously we want all our OOC opponents to win because it makes our strength of schedule better. They would be:Cincinnati vs. #23 South Florida (on Thursday) - We should have beat them, but having them knock off a ranked team in one of our more active recruiting areas would be helpful.Wisconsin @ #21 Michigan State - I don't think the Badgers can do it, but it would go a long way towards making us look better after they ran all over us. Army vs. Air Force - We beat Army easily, but somehow they have become a decent team the past few weeks. Them beating a good MWC team at home helps us a lot.Syracuse vs. Louisville - Syracuse is a lost cause. Might as well root for Louisville to knock a Big East team out of bowl contention. There's also no harm hoping more things fall into place within the MAC. A couple of teams will be essentially eliminated from title contention in the East. Here's how I hope things play out with the MAC teams:CMU @ Indiana - Root for CMU. Any time a MAC team beats a Big 10 team it's a good thing. Plus CMU could knock Indiana out of bowl contention for certain. Can't State @ BGSU - We beat Can't but lost to BG. I can't bring myself to root for Can't, but I will be hoping BG loses. The loser will become 1-4 in the MAC which retty much knocks them out of the race.EMU @ WMU - Root for EMU. West opponent records figure into the tiebreaker scenarios.Temple @ Navy - Root for Temple, although I don't think they can win. The MAC is directly competing against Navy for the Eagle Bank Bowl spot. What do you guys think?
  9. Haha. Whoops. I got confused by Ziptrumpet87's post. It appears the exhibition game is a week earlier on November 6th.
  10. Which game I go to will be decided by whether we beat Toledo on Wednesday. Win and I'll be at the Bowl. Lose, and I'll go to the JAR to support a real team with a real coach.
  11. Very nice article. I love to see great players at UA come back after they graduate and keep contributing to the team.I especially liked the video at the end of the article. P.S. Vincent Dorsey covers the Zips for the Buchtelite. Apparently you can submit your own articles to Ohio.com now.
  12. Excellent pic K-Roo!That angle really lets you see the shape of the stadium. You can imagine it being complete.
  13. It's better to be hated than ignored. Right now we're ignored because the dominant fan base (OSU fans) don't see us as any more of a threat than Walsh College. Sure, when the Zips are brought up in a conversation they say some nice things about us (unless we're playing them in the near future) but that's because they don't care enough to start talking smack like they would to a fan of some other schools. The only real way an OSU loss directly benefits Akron is if we beat them in head-to-head competition. The only other way would be if Akron finished with a better record than OSU and went to a better bowl than them. Until one of those two things happens, I will simply ignore them and treat them as just another school that doesn't affect my team, like Missouri or Florida State. Ignoring them or not caring at all is the only way to really throw them for a loop. Try telling an OSU fan that you just don't care about their team one way or another and watch their heads explode from confusion. For them you either love or hate OSU but it's impossible to not care about them because the whole world revolves around Columbus, good or bad.
  14. I had heard one of their players got arrested, but I just assumed it was either Singletary (again) or the felon. Can't State Golden Felons indeed.
  15. I'll root for Ball State so long as they don't play Akron. If we play them in Detroit I want to beat them by 60. If we don't play them, then I hope they win.
  16. Game over. Akron ties PSU 1-1.
  17. So would it make a difference if Akron pulled this one out in 2OT or won in regulation? In the eyes of the selection committee?Probably a little bit. Not as much as a tie or loss. If we win on 2OT it still counts as a win in the RPI.
  18. When there's a large discrepancy in the number of fouls, one of two things are happening.1. One team is playing significantly more aggressive than the other.2. The refs are covering for something. It's not number one because the number of yellow cards doesn't correlate at all. Akron has four with 16 fouls while PSU has 1 with 30 fouls. Therefore, I can see the refs calling lots of fouls on PSU in non-crucial situations to cover for their calling fouls on Akron where it hurts.
  19. The fouls on Akron are starting to increase in frequency.
  20. Sudden Death. First to score wins.
  21. 1st Overtime. Golden Goal rule in effect.
  22. PSU must be playing extremely aggressively. they have 24 fouls to Akron's 9.
  23. We can't afford a tie. Akron needs to win this one badly.
  24. GOAAAAAAAAAL! Teal Bunbury!Akron goes up 1-0.
  25. The fix was in against us when we played Michigan. Luckily we overcame the officiating. I hope we can do the same here.
