Watching Ball State vs Navy and...
ZachTheZip replied to Ryno aka Menace's topic in Akron Zips Football
With Bain back our defense will merely be bad. Without him the defense is even worse.I think you forget that the 3-3-5 is specifically designed to stop the type of offense that Ball State runs. It isn't designed to stop a power running game like Wisconsin ran, so we saw a huge mismatch there and the Badgers took advantage of it. Syracuse will also try to take advantage of it, but they aren't Wisconsin and they don't have PJ Hill and a monster O-line. -
Any word on Zips v. WV game?
ZachTheZip replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
It was a tough fought game on a humid night. The Zips came out the victors and will play for the championship on Sunday against Cincinnati. The crowd was pretty large. According to GoZips.com "1,936 rowdy fans at Lee Jackson Field" were there. Lots of new faces just got their first taste of what Akron Soccer is all about.I am hoping for a similar crowd as the Zips look to go 3-0 in the Big East on Sunday. -
I agree he had a lot of tackles and that looks impressive. However, they were all way down field. It's not like he was making hits at or behind the LOS.It shows our lack of recruiting when a Soph walkon is starting. He's a safety. In a 3-3-5, they don't make plays at the LOS. It's his job to chase down players who make it through the DL and linebackers (which is just about everyone).

Are you serious? And where did those extra wins get us 2 years ago when we won 26 games??????? That being said, I am pleased with this years schedule. What did Miami get for playing the nation's toughest OOC schedule? All they got was tired before the MAC games started.
-
Does anybody else think we may have found a gem with this guy? He's a sophomore walk-on, but the guy can play. He led our defense last week with 18 tackles, and seems to be the main reason PJ Hill didn't break 300 yards last week.If he keeps playing like that, there's no reason he shouldn't earn himself a scholarship next year.
-
The MAC won't be a two-bid league until the other teams start scheduling like us. Buy out one or two games to get yourself some wins. Don't play more than two money games a year. It might hurt your strength of schedule, but the extra wins more than make up for it. Some teams in the MAC would rather go winless but play a killer schedule than have a winning record against an average schedule. Which one helps out the conference out more?

I know we beat NC State two years ago, but that was only once. We did manage to get Chuck Amato fired.Do you think that if we beat Syracuse that they will fire Greg Robinson? I'm sure he won't start spewing bullcrap excuses about "non-qualifiers", though.http://www.ohio.com/sports/zips/27799499.h...age=all&c=yWe need to improve the run defense, but other than that we looked pretty good.Anybody know whether Bain will be returning? I think Lively is out until after Ball State.

The article mentioned the following addresses: 457 and 459 Exchange - the houses labeled "houses"437 Exchange - The empty lot just west of Aroma/Chopstix354 Spicer - The building behind the Sun Grill461 Exchange - This is the address for the Sun Grill building.I guess you're right. It comes down to Manny and his three hovels. There's no way his property is worth the same as all the ones that were just settled, an area twice the size of his own. Here's a corrected map:UA owns everything except the rectangle where Manny's and Aroma/Chopstix reside.

According to Gozips.com, Jeff Boals has been promoted to the position of Assistant Head Coach. You've earned it, Jeff. Now stick around and produce us some NBA prospects.
-
A total of $2.1 million including legal fees. Not too bad considering the absurd amount the judge/jury tried to con us out of.A quick check on Google Earth reveals that this means that UA gets EVERYTHING according to the addresses in the link:

NSCAA Poll - 9/2/08 Edition
ZachTheZip replied to w00t's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I'll be there this weekend to help make sure there is no letdown. We need to show that the new soccer stadium will be justified by selling out the Jack regularly. -
Couple of Syracuse message boards:http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=185&f=2826http://www.cuseorange.com/forum/viewforum....03ccad32517c2caNot too any happy thoughts over there. Some good news, though, is that while "Cuse opened up a 7-point favorite, the line is already down to Akron +4.5 and it continues to swing more to our favor.
-
Yeah, it's already time to focus on Syracuse, at least a bit as we try to analyze last week's game. They're opening as 7-point favorites, but I see no reason that we can't win on Saturday. We should be able to have our way on the ground, and the passing game looks more than good enough to keep their D honest. They are primarily a rushing team, which at first glance looks bad when you remember Wisconsin. They can't throw the ball at all, though, and their RBs and O-line are nowhere as good as the Badgers. They couldn't even score an offensive touchdown against Northwestern. The biggest challenge will be the stadium itself, although I don't anticipate a large crowd after a demoralizing loss.Akron will score plenty of points, and should win convincingly. I'll be looking forwards to UA's second win over a BCS team in just three years. It looks like it could be a major week for the MAC over the Big East with Temple looking for revenge against UConn and Buffalo going to Pitt.
-
To answer your first two questions:1. I'm not worried about the secondary. Syracuse has a terrible passing game, so that gives them one more game to work out the bugs in coverage schemes before they get tested. Jones might see dedicated time at DB when we play Ball State.2. B. Will was back there to return the kicks, but they kicked away from him. I think we should put Jones, Williams, and Johnson all back there, so they can't kick it away from anyone unless they want to go short.
-
Well, that's that. The game ended in a tie.Akron takes home the tournament title, and a 1-0-1 record against two of the best teams in the country. Now we can look forward to the team coming home and playing in our own tournament starting Friday.
-
Going into double-OT.Let's end this quick with a UA goal.
-
Get ready for overtime.Still 0-0
-
Still no goals. Coming up on 20:00 leftAkron is starting to look tired.
-
I'm watching on the Big Ten network. Don't know about a gamecast.
-
First goal of the game for Akron taken back on a crap call.
-
Tied 0-0 at the half. Both teams have had plenty of chances, with Akron getting more. IU's defense is pretty tough, while Evan Bush is continuing to be his awesome self.
-
It's incredibly frustrating to watch this without being able to heckle the other team.
-
He wants to play RB, so that's where he will play. Maybe over the course of the year, the coaches can convince him to play defense a bit so he can get on the field more.
