Yeah, but the other one is Can't, so it's all good. I guess whoever wins gets to come off the list.

I believe Jacq had the worse day yesterday, but it was just the first day of camp. We should know much more about how we stand in a week or so.I hope they release a depth chart soon.

Well, we don't have any scholarships available until 2010, so that might have been a factor. I can definitely see him not wanting to experience college under the shadow cast by Dru. He would always be compared to him, and it would be extremely difficult to live up to the expectations that come with being the little brother of one of the best players to ever play here.
-
that should be it's own thread, a thread where everyone posts zips stories so we can all comment on them and make the papers see that we want zips coverage and not can't state articles. That's a good idea. Now that you mention it, I was looking at Syracuse's Scout.com forum and they have a daily thread for news stories involving the university and its athletics, and posting comments in the links is encouraged.

True but this preseason is the 1st game action for Charlie as a Seahawk. And I suppose a lot (perhaps his pro career?) may be riding on it.Let's hope he looks good, then.
-
That was the reason they dealt for him in the first place, wasn't it?

Hey CK, according to the roster, Larry Dawson caught on with us.He is listed as a DB and not an RB. That is interesting. Now that I've had the chance to look, I don't see him anywhere on the roster. Try this roster...updated 2008 football rosterAh. Thanks! I guess I should know better than to expect the website to be up to date.
-
What exactly does that mean? Are you just saying he's not as good as Dru?He may have the same or better raw ability as Dru, but he doesn't have the benefit of playing with and learning from the best basketball player in the world for 4+ years.
-
It's not a big deal. The younger Joyce is not his brother. They think it's a big deal because Dru went here, not because they are gaining a major recruit. They obsess about us over there. It's unhealthy.

It's good to keep grabbing local guys. Devoe Torrence, Will Fleming, and Larry Dawson were all local high school football stars last year. If nothing else, it buys us some additional local coverage, but I think they will all have a good impact on the team.Every year, there are dozens of top national recruits playing only minutes away from campus. Just picking up one or two of them a year would elevate the program quite a bit.

Here are the stories I have found so far. Leave some comments to encourage future Zips coverage.Ohio.com - Blue chip prospect joins ZipsCantonRep.com - Torrence finds spot with Akron

If he has half the talent that he is supposed to, there's no way JD can afford to redshirt him at such a crucial time for the program. He is listed as an athlete, so maybe he could play on defense this year and then make the switch to RB next year.
-
from what it sounds like he probably is a bit better at linebacker, but also, don't you always want your best at each position? With his strength, speed, and agility, it's hard to not put him at RB a little just to see if he could be that guy who can just take over a game and rush for 300 yards a game at will.4.55 speed is nothing special for a running back. That is pretty good speed for a linebacker though.UA needs more speed on defense.citation: linkIf you are a run-oriented team that wants to pound the ball, this could be your guy. However, if a team is in need for a great linebacker and has the patience to develop one, this is the kid.Sounds about right. We need a good running game because our QB play is suspect, but we need a great linebacking corps because our secondary is almost a complete unknown.
-
I really think he is a better LB than running back. If he plays that position, it would help further mask our thin secondary, while if he played RB it would just crowd our depth chart even more, possibly forcing some more position changes.
-
The staff needs to be strict with him, to start. Even if he is entirely innocent and a great guy, they need to be strict. As for using Akron as a "stepping stone", it depends entirely on whether we have offered him a scholarship or if he's walking on. As a walk-on, there's not much we can do, except to play him and hope he gets us some wins while he's here. If I were the coach, I would offer him a scholarship on the condition that he will not be released from it for at least two years, should he wish to transfer.
-
I think you hit the nail on the head - I see him playing one of our hybid positions (Rover, Sam or Bandit - whatever the heck those things are.) At RB he's surely no better than Pinky Johnson, and if Pinky is 3rd string going into camp... well, you get the picture. I think DT would serve the team much better on the defensive side of the ball.IMHO, I think he is a better LB than running back anyway. We sure could use his help chasing down scrambling QBs, which killed us last year.
-
I keep hearing lots of people from other schools that were looking into him saying that he will automatically become our starting runningback. That's just not something I can see happening, no matter how talented he might be. If he is set on playing that position, he would likely redshirt. Playing on the defense would allow him to see the field right away, and I'm sure one of our hybrid spots (Rover, Sam, or Bandit) would be a good fit for him.
-
Is he walking on or are we giving him a scholarship? Would we give him the one we're holding for Chaz Russell?
-
WV guys are saying that if he chooses them, he'll be asked to redshirt.
-
And some people on here always think we are a lot better than we are.I doubt we beat Syracuse. I think we lose by at least 14.I agree. As much as I hate to say it and as I am well aware of how down the 'Cuse is presently, we were just so awful last year that I'd have to consider beating the 'Cuse an upset. Each year when we have a big opponent, people think we have a great chance to win and we always lose bad.Sorry guys, I know we only lost by 3 scores to OSU, but that game was not that close. So now we're comparing Syracuse to OSU? Just because they are in the Big East does not mean that they are a good team and we will automatically lose to them.

Razor says Devoe may be coming aboard. As many have said here, JD's job maybe in jeopardy. The decision to offer a scholarship is easier if he may be gone next year.Rasor on the ZipsI don't know what to say....I'm not very happy about this. Was the guy acquitted? Yes. Would another team, possibly a MAC team, picked him up? Yes. I still am concerned as the guy was in this situation in the first place, which leads me to believe he doesn't have the best judgement. Assuming he is indeed with the Zips, he is going to be around the same group of friends that he got into this mess with in the first place, and we all know what this can lead to..... I'm glad to see that JD is working so hard to bring in quality players.....just like he was doing 3-4 years ago. It's the sign of a desperate coach. Either He will com in and have an immediate impact (probably on defense) and JD keeps his job, or the whole thing blown up in JD's face and we're stuck cleaning up the mess. It's a huge gamble. We'll see how it plays out, and hope for the best.

Out of curiosity, I checked one of the gopher sites & found this thread:"The official "Where the **** is Vince Hill?" Thread" I wonder if maybe Da'Von Moore might be able to put a big hit on this kid this season. Is he still around?Da' Von Moore still around. He hurt himself in the first practice he took place in during last season. Either tore his ACL or something with his ankle. Needless to say it wasnt very good. He will be at camp once it opens this week. Also coming to camp a BIG NAME running back! Could be the the best recruit in the MAC by far next to Deryn Bowser.Unless you're going to name names and give some details, don't bother even mentioning stuff like this. It's beyond frustrating for those of us not "in the know". As for concerns about starting a rumor as a result, simply qualify your statements as heresay.Have you read Rasor's Blog today?

Most of the chatter on their messageboards seems to indicate that they consider us to be on the same level as 1-AA Northeastern, who went 3-8 last year.We should sneak up on them pretty easily.
-
So I have heard. He could be very special, however, I'm concerned about this player's potential baggage that he will bring along. Also, Akron's RB situation is already crowded with many great athletes, including two seniors. This guy's best bet to see the field would be as a DB.
