  1. The top programs have had that figured out for years. It worked for us last year, to an extent. We beat Army, which allowed us to work out some problems, and then we give OSU a scare. If the offensive playcalling wasn't so bad, we would've had a chance. But then the season fell apart, because of the QB problems, and the defense getting too tired from being on the field 45 minutes every game.It does work, but you need good coaching to pull it off by looking at and fixing any mistakes before it is too late.
  2. When I first read the headline for this thread, I assumed it was for 2009 with the new stadium. There's no way they managed to sell out any type of package that involves people actually going to the RB. If it really is true, then it could be from all the stadium advertising reminding people that there is, in fact, a Zips football team that plays here. We need a constant stream of ads reminding people that the team actually exists, because it's easy to forget when you have three pro teams and OSU all competing for potential fans' attention.
  3. The only I-AA school I would even consider wanting us to schedule is YSU because of the rivalry and potential for a large crowd. Otherwise, it's not worthwhile and would contribute to the stigma that we have a second class program.Almost every BCS team has a 1-AA team on its schedule. The extra win always helps, since people judge football teams by the amount of wins than who it was they won against.
  4. With the new stadium, we should NEVER have less than 6 home games. You can't expect the stadium to make money if you never have any games there except for the ones against MAC teams. The problem is that a lot of the scheduling is done years in advance. Many of the games we have lined up were made before the stadium was ever planned. We should have a lot more leverage in getting teams from non-BCS conferences to give us 1-for-1 deals. In Football, the easiest schedule is the best, since it helps get you bowl-eligible. No more of these multiple BCS road trips every year, unless they are coming back here in a future season.
  5. Thanks for keeping us informed, Z.I.P.I wasn't able to get ESPNU last night, but reading this has gotten me even more excited for the season to begin!
  6. I take it there was no early word on whether or not he's in the fold?
  7. Other... does that imply KC Patterson or Jordan Miller? Miller has the potential to be something special.
  8. I am thinking (hoping) that Matt Rodgers will have worked his way to the top of the depth chart before we paly Wisconsin. One thing is certain: It won't matter who the starting QB is if the offensive playbook hasn't undergone a complete overhaul.
  9. Stephen Curtis. He's one of those non-qualifiers, as Chuck Amato would say. Thanks for the info! They managed to get your blog blocked here at work (anything even slightly resembling a blog has been blacklisted), so I have to resort to wild guesses until I can get home.
  10. I have heard that some of the football team played in a few non-coached, non-mandatory 7 on 7 scrimmages against players from YSU and Ashland last night. Has anybody heard anything about this? I heard that the offense looked pretty good for this time of year.
  11. If you don't show up to win, you shouldn't show up at all. If this team wants to develop a winning culture, they have to compete in every game to the best of their ability. Playing to not get hurt is a loser's mentality, which this team can not afford to have if they want to get out of the D-IA basement.
  12. What's this guy's name? I'm guessing that it's Erique Geiger, but the pictures don't really match up.
  13. September 13th we paly Ball State in the home opener. The Zips 3-3-5 defense will be tested against the very type of offense it was designed to stop in Nate Davis' offense.September 27th we play Cincinnati. They are a BCS team, which is rare to see in the Rubber Bowl. We might actually have a chance since their QB didn't get his 6th year of eligibility granted.October 11th we play Bowling Green in the Homecoming game. They will likely be the top team in the MAC East this year.November 5th vs. Toledo. I expect low attendance since this is on the ESPN network, but I always enjoy our games with Toledo.November 13th will mark the last college football game played in the Rubber Bowl. Our opponent is Buffalo, but the focus will be more on the stadium than either team. This game should be marketed to death. I would love to see a sellout crowd to close the RB era and open the era of Infocision Stadium. It's unlikely, though, unless we are still in the mix to win the MAC East at that time.
  14. Poll inspired by the one on gozips.com and a boring work day.
  15. Hi TerpFan! I'm sure there are many folks here who follow the recruiting scene more than I do, but I have also noticed this trend. I can't really give a reason for it, but I would take a guess that one or more of our recruiters has strong ties to the area. Our main recruiting base appears to be western Pennsylvania, and Florida before that.It may also have to do with having previous recruits from the area. It's easier to convinve a kid to leave home to come to your school when others in the area have done it successfully.I hope some of the more knowledgeable posters here can shed some light on this for you.
  16. Easy come, easy go, I guess. The story is now completely gone from the men's BB page.It was nice while it lasted.
  17. There's one on:BGSU: Ay-ziggy-zoomba.comOhio High Schools: jjhuddle.com college basketball forumThat's all I see now.
  18. One of the consequences of having this article more visible is an increased number of trolls commenting on it.And yes, the reaction is fun to watch on the MAC boards. They don't really know what to think about it.
  19. Sorry for the double post, but our activity has not gone unnoticed: the story was moved from being one of the rotating blurbs on the NBA page to being the Headliner on the Men's BB page! It's far more exposure being up there.
  20. There's actually more voices of reason in the conversation than there are trolls. I'm pleasantly surprised.
  21. http://www.vegasinsider.com/college-footba....cfm/team/akronWe're 28 point underdogs. I think the Zips can cover that. Some other MAC lines:Buffalo 2.5 point favorites over UTEPMiami (oh) 1.5 point favorites over VanderbiltTemple 3.5 point favorites over ArmyWMU 14 point underdogs to NebraskaCan't 12 point underdogs to BCNIU 10 point underdogs to MinnesotaBGSU 13 point underdogs to PittOhio 9 point underdogs to Wyoming
  22. IMO for this to happen and be worthwhile, the Info would need to be sold out for every home game. Why give people another excuse to stay home on a cold, dreary night at the end of November?I can also see another scenario like last year where the end of the UA-Can't game was cut short in the closing minutes when the game was yet to be decided to make way for OSU pregame. Just imagine an overtime conference game or a close out-of-conference game against a big opponent being cut off to make way for Archie Bunker on All in the Family. ...you want to talk about DECREASING legitimacy to a program that did and would do it, respectively. If it causes an outrage like when they cut off the Akron - Can't game last year, all the better. You should have seen the bees nest the TV station stirred up when they did that.
  23. As members of the Nation then, it's our job to teach them and spread our UA Zips culture.Exactly. Correct their misconceptions, and the misconceptions of an entire 5 million person region.Maybe if they knew the truth, we would be better receivedin the media. They cater to the largest audience, and if that audience shows signs of disliking the Zips, that is what they will cater to.
  24. It's starting to irk a few OSU fans, that's for sure.A really good way to help promote this whole thing is to leave comments on the page. More comments means more exposure, and helps keep this story in the spotlight longer.
  25. I believe that it actually is part of the Greek Village project. Everything between Spicer and Route 8 is planned to be included. It's UA expanding to fill its natural borders (Exchange, Route 8, the train tracks, and Market), removing things that aren't complimentary to the University or its students.
