I was thinking of a nickname more along the lines of the "Nut-f.lashers".
-
According to Scout, he visited UA today and will visit Memphis next Friday. He also picked up an offer from Kansas State. Here's hoping that he had a good first impression today. I would love to see him wearing the Blue and Gold this fall.

Eguins, I was starting to wonder if you would show up. The biggest problem with setting up a series with Youngstown is the MAC's rule of no road games at FCS schools, and your AD won't even consider a series without a return game. If we did it, it would have to be as a member of another conference. I certainly wouldn't mind playing another game within driving distance. It would be a great way to open every season, with a rivalry game that both schools fans can attend, instead of a bodybag game for a paycheck. As for attendance, I doubt Akron will ever trail YSU again for football games.

We shouldn't really worry about backup bowl agreements made by any conferences. The bottom line is that we need to get 7 wins, and we will go bowling, either at a MAC bowl or somewhere else as an at-large. That's it. What the MAC or other conferences are doing doesn't matter, since there are enough bowls now that it's almost impossible to be left out with 7 or more wins.

Yes. The stands/tower are being built in sections, going counter-clockwise facing south. Next will be the second half of the home stands, then the visitors side. There will be another three stories on top of the current structure that will become the press box and luxury seating. It will be double the current height when it's done.
-
That wasn't Rhodes' fault. It was Rick Chryst and his scheduling goons in Cleveland.
-
Until the MAC can actually provide more teams that are bowl-eligible, we have no reason to complain about anything.

I disagree. Please explain what he's given UA or it's athletic programs. Has he donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to the hoops program that I am unaware of? If he did, then I tip my cap and will say thanks. But I am not aware of this.Do I like that his camps are on UA's campus? Of course I do. But has this enticed even one recruit to sign with us? Not that I am aware of....Let's hope that changes..Is the Nike deal a blockbuster? We will see. Once the deal is signed, if I see LBJ on tv with a Zips hat on, then maybe I will concur. But until then, we can all wishfully think that he's a Zips supporter. That is, until mid-November when I see his ugly mug on the tv intoducing the idiots in c-bus. War Carson Palmer and go Zips.Well for one, he's giving UA's men's basketball team all new gear completely free of charge. He attends games when he can, and every time he does something like this, we get a mention in the national press. It may not have inspired any recruits to sign so far, but we really haven't had the chance to see all the benefits just yet. It gives us an air of legitimacy in our own region, which happens to view us in a worse light than the rest of the country does. It's hard to get your name attached to one of the most famous people in the world, and the fact that he appears to be a philanthropist and not a thug like so many others in his profession just makes it better.

Odds Akron will win 2009 NCAA Men's Bball Title
ZachTheZip replied to Zipmeister's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I'm pleasantly surprised that Akron was worth their time to figure out the odds, what with losing 5 seniors this year. Our talent is better than ever, but replacing the leadership that was brought by their presence will be difficult. Hiring Cedrick Middleton as a grad assistant helps. -
http://akron.scout.com/a.z?s=333&p=2&a...d2%26c%3d771549WR Nolan Proctor of Wylie E. Coyote HS, er, um, Groves - yeah, Wylie E. Groves HS has verballed to Akron. He's 5'9", 170lbs. BGSU and all three directional Michigan schools also offered him.

So my bad, I had not seen that post, so apologies to you. But I still stick by my no 1-AA teams. There is no reward for winning and too great a loss for losing. The reward for winning is being 1/6 closer to going to a bowl where otherwise it would be just another loss. CMU got blown out at home by a I-AA team last year, and you don't see anybody ragging on them about it.

I think it takes the place of the traditional parking pass fee. It gets you access to the Roo Express shuttle system.People at UA are lazy, they complain if they have to park more than 100 feet from their class. This new fee will get their attention and they might notice the shuttle service.I've never spent more than 5 seconds looking for a parking spot, but I don't insist on parking right next to my classroom.

http://mac-sports.com//ViewArticle.dbml?DB...;ATCLID=1515080I didn't know the MAC website was doing this, but it's a nice feature.
-
MUCH better. You have no idea how horrible it is for parents sending their kids to a school where everything is done over the web to have to deal with a badly designed website. It's much easier to navigate now.
-
Ben Speas or Matt Mason? Either would be a serious blow.I hope you heard wrong.
-
CJ is gone. Jacq is the QB now, with Matt Rodgers backing him up.
-
I am more concerned about having the last two home games (including the final game in the Rubber Bowl) be on weeknights in November. People that want to watch the OSU game on TV wouldn't show up to see us play Ball State anyways.
-
We're returning four starters and we are pretty deep at each spot. I think we'll be fine.

Story. There seems to be no limit to LeBron's generosity towards his home town. He's now tricking out the Akron Police with 10 LeBron-themed Cannondale bikes.

When Will the 2008-09 Schedule Be Out?
ZachTheZip replied to GoZips's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
VCU will be very tough at their place. How much did Dayton lose that you would deem them an easy game?I never said it they would be easy, just that they are winnable games. We were a bad call away from taking Dayton to triple OT at their place, and playing in the JAR gives us a huge advantage. VCU will be tough, but winnable. I don't see any impending blowouts on the schedule, and I am hoping that the athleticism of the new players will help us close out games better. -
Word on the street is he's visiting UA this Friday. It looks to be between us and Memphis.Great! Hopefully seeing the stadium under construction and the great campus will help convince him to come here. I thought he un-verballed from Memphis, though.

App State was the favorite to win the D1-AA championship before the season. They were fired up to play one of the best teams in the Big 10. YSU is an average D-1AA team, and I can't see them looking at a game with Akron as a chance to prove something.
-
The only I-AA school I would even consider wanting us to schedule is YSU because of the rivalry and potential for a large crowd. Otherwise, it's not worthwhile and would contribute to the stigma that we have a second class program.I would love to see us Play YSU on a semi-regular basis. What makes you think we would beat YSU on a regular basis? What makes you think we wouldn't?

When Will the 2008-09 Schedule Be Out?

That looks like an entirely winnable schedule. Any loss will be a dissapointment.
