  1. Woah there. Settle down. UA didn't sell tickets to the OSU game for the entire week leading up to it because they had to return them. I'm guessing that the same thing happened here. You need to get your tix a few weeks early.
  2. It's gonna be ugly if Coach Moorhead doesn't figure out how to run an offense really soon.
  3. http://www.denverpost.com/sports/ci_7063969Just saw it on the web...
  4. There goes our shot of winning unless Bryan Williams has a breakout game.Chris is not a playmaker. He goes out there, throws efficiently, and limits mistakes, but he does nothing to actually win the game. He will look pretty good against Wester's defense, but when he is faced with a better one, we'll see the same old Jacq staring down Jabari and not even looking at the other WRs. In fact, that's the reason only Jabari gets the ball thrown to him: Jacq doesn't even consider the others, whom JD has said were "deep threats".
  5. Hitting up students for drug money is my biggest complaint. They don't even bother to lie, they say straight up what it's for. Having a bunch of drug addicts that I'm pretty sure actually live on that street corner right next to campus is a bad thing not only for the university's image, but for the safety of the students.I don't care that the plasma center is there, they're free to do business where ever they like. What I do care about are the people that come with it, loitering outside, waiting for their dealer to come around. Drugs and crime go hand in hand. There haven't been any incidents recently, but thats because students have learned to void walking near there.
  6. Mccracken, does the "security" behind the front desk remove all the druggies and homeless people that loiter all day outside the building asking students if they can spare some money for their crack addiction? So the building has been there 40 years. Big deal. Times change, and the neighborhood is changing too. Soon, the clientel will be forced out or move somewhere else once the University Park Alliance finishes tearing down the ghetto that the Plasma center feeds off of.It's not the business, it's the patrons.
  7. I was litteraly in the process of posting this when you beat me to the punch. P.S. The fans really DO matter to the players. That goes for every sports we have. It is horribly demoralizing when you go out there on your home field and nobody is cheering you on. Go to the games. As many as you can. Here's are the home games this week:----------------------------------------------------------------------------------Womens' soccer vs. Miami (OH) Friday, October 5th 7:30PM -- The lady Zips are 6-3-2 and need a win to go up 2-1 in the MAC East.Mens' soccer vs. Hartwick Saturday, Oct 6th at 7:30PM -- Lets welcome Hartwick to the MAC with an old fashioned beatdown.
  8. Zippy is down by 20. They are gunning for us. Just look at Otto's lead right now. The only way to stop them from voting against us is to stop them from voting at all. Schools that have big leads lay off the voting for a while. I think we should vote for the favorites that get the big leads so they let up for a while and we have a better chance. What do you guys think?
  9. Yep, we need to vote for:CockyHokiebirdSeymour/Cosmo (whoever has the least over votes at the time)ZIPPYHairyDawgOttoDon't forget to cast your write-in to get Brutus and the F.lash knocked off the write-in leaderboard. I don't know how much of a chance we stand if Brutus gets a spot. Every time we run an advertisement, most of the people that would have voted for us will switch to voting for the nut.
  10. Zippy's lead is almost gone. Everybody needs to vote before 9:00 AM today.
  11. The answer is simple. They are in the Big East, and we are in the MAC. They get recruits we don't have a chance of landing, whether they are good or terrible. They get huge $$$ from the BCS contract even if they don't participate in one of the bowls, simply by virtue of being in the conference. They can afford to pay teams to play them at home, improving their revenue from ticket sales, and giving them a better shot at winning than playing games on the road like us. We play against the refs bad calls constantly, but I never like to use that as an excuse because it goes both ways (usually).Bottom line is, they have the $$$. We do not. UConn makes money off their basketball program, and re-invests the profit into improving it's football program. We can't do that, but the stadium revenues from the uber-expensive suites they are including should help. They are the main college team for the Boston market. Until we get a substantial fan base in Cleveland , we can't compete. They expect to win, we just hope to win. that falls on the coaching staff. What kind of horrible half-time speeches are our coaches giving to account for our 3rd quarter woes? It is clear that if the players don't expect to win, then they won't win. The coaches don't seem to have much confidence. JD said his ultimate goal this season was to go 11-1. That means he expected to lose a game, and that tells me that he didn't expect to win. His goal should have been 12-0 and there's no reason not to aim for that. No excuses.
  12. The biggest blow that came with losing Harvey wasn't the kick returning, it was having another target besides Jabari out there. I don't know if he will return, and if he does there is a chance that he has gotten soft from his year off and will never be as good as he was last year.Williams is a great returner and a great running back, and he will continue to improve along with the O-line. I still have no idea what happened to the Dennis Kennedy we saw last year before he was hurt, but I am glad that Williams is able to step up and fill in very nicely.
  13. I can't vote anymore until around 11:00 tonite. Then, it's all out until midnite when it resets and then I will start over. Last minute pushes are becoming very important to keeping our lead.
  14. My MAC rankings are based on who is the best team, not who has the best chance to win the conference:#1 Bowling Green (Very impressive so far)#2 Ball State (Right behind BG. They are the two best MAC teams by far)#3 Akron (If we fix some of our problems in practice)#4 Can't State (beat an average Ohio team, lost to Akron)#5 CMU#6 Miami#7 Ohio (relatively weak schedule, and not many wins to go with it)#8 WMU (still an unknown)#9 EMU (better than normal, or the competition is worse than normal)#10 NIU (lost to EMU, having a really bad season)#11 Toledo (what happened to them?)#12 Buffalo (showing some glimpses, but not there yet)#13 Temple (holy crap they're bad, UConn overlooked them)
  15. Before I get into Saturday's game, everyone should know that we are not as bad as we think we are. According to Sagarin, we have played the 12th most difficult schedule out of any D-1 team, and we still have a 2-3 record. Our opponents so far have a combined 19-6 record so far, with OSU, UConn, and Indiana having only one loss between them. That's a hell of a rough way to start your season, but we have already beaten our rival and are undefeated in conference play. Our weaknesses and strengths have been exposed in embarrasing fashion, but it gives our coaches a great way to find out what's wrong and fix it (excluding the fact that the coaches themselves are a big part of the problem). Now, on Saturday, UA will travel to Kalamazoo to take on WMU. According to Sagarin, we should be 2 1/2 point favorites on the road. With CJ starting, our chances significantl;y improve because their defense has to respect his scrambling ability. This is a must-win game because if we lose, we fall to 2-4 and our bowl chances are pretty much erased, plus any win over a west opponent will help in a tie-breaker scenario (which is very likely to happen). We need to get our confidence back, and WMU is ripe for the picking after beating Toledo. My keys to the game, which may change depending on information that gets released this week:1.) Big Nate has to come back soon. Without him, we lose a TON of depth on our DL. The line is supposed to anchor the defense. it doesn't matter how good our secondary is when the other team can run up and down the field at will in the second half because our guys are too tired.2.) There needs to be some semblance of a second-half adjustment on both offense and defense. Anything at all. Helloooo. JD? Coach Fleming? Coach Moorhead? You guys there?3.) Run the spread offense like we used to. You have a running QB, lots of depth at RB, Supposed playmakers at WR, Jabari who belongs in a class all his own, and two decent tight ends. Your line is starting to jel faster than anyone here hoped. It's time to lose the "inexperience" excuse and run wild like our talent should allow us to. They've been tested by some all types of defenses, and we caught glimpses here and there, but holding back is not the answer. We play to win.4.) The defense, oh the defense. Stop giving up first downs on 3rd and 20. Just stop. Have a few guys watch the ball and hang back to stop them before they get the first down. Blitzing the QB and making him run when there's nobody set up to stop him once he takes off is bad football sense.5.) The most important key is to come out on fire. Go straight for the endzone. We can't be afraid to take shots, and it should open it up for the running game to get established. Throw some short, easy tosses to the TEs to get them in a rythm. Make turnovers on defense. Hit them like you mean it. Rattle their bones. Most importantly, play like you have nothing to lose, not like you have everything to lose and are afraid of losing it.
  16. It sounded to me like it he was referencing a replacement for te JAR. It is already known that they are tearing down Carrol Hall, and possible Memorial next to it. That clears the perfect area for an arena more befitting a 26-win team. That would make the JAR more like what Memorial is now: an academic building focusing on physical education. It will be a very long time before we see anything happen, I think. It would be nice to have a new football stadium and basketball arena built at the same time, which would help propel us much farther than they would if built seperately.I think they are waiting for us to outgrow the JAR first, which means that we need to sell it out consistantly. It shouldn't be that hard to fill it up, but we still only sell out once or twice a season. Fans need to go to the games as often as they can. KD wanted at least 3 games last year with over 5,000 fans. We had two, with that massive blizzard ruining our best shot at a third one. I know that we can do that goal one better this year, but we have to drag our friends to the games. They'll come back when they see how much fun they are. The Rowdies have grown substantially this year, but we have yet to see if that translates into more students showing up for games.
  17. Zippy's lead is down to 20 votes. We can't take a break here. I'm still voting as fast as I can, but I'm bored and at work whereas you guys probably have something going on. Take a few 5 minute breaks and vote when you can. This is our chance to show the world that people really do care about Zippy and Akron athletics! Don't blow it.
  18. You guys wanted coverage in the BJ? Well, you got it.Zips left far behind in the second half.I found this on the front page of the sports section, along with a very big picture. OSU wasn't mentioned until the inside pages. Can't got a side column on the front page, as did the Indians. We lost, but still got the featured story. I suggest you guys leave some comments on their website to encourage them to keep covering the LOCAL team like this. It's what we need, win or lose. It shows that the Zips are Akron's team, not the Buckeyes. They may have been driven to do this out of fear after seeing the backlash against WEWS after the Wagon Wheel TV fiasco, but I like to think that they are finally figuring out what we have been telling them for so long. Not a single mention in the Cleveland PD or the Canton Suppository.
  19. They don't update realtime. I think it is once every 5 minutes or something close to that.Zippy is up by almost 100 votes, but don't let up. We need to build a big cushion. You know that since it's the last day, there will be a big push to knock us off. ALSO, we need to knock Brutus out of the top spot in the write-ins! I say we vote for the Florida Gator. I would love to see the gator knock off Brutus once again. Vote for the gator after each vote for Zippy.
  20. Gah. Zippy's losing again. I'm out of votes for a while, so we need to step it up.
  21. This is where UA will make its money. Regular tickets will remain the same price, and season tix won't go up by that much.
  22. Zippy's up by about 10 votes. Keep on pushing. We need to pad our lead before the big end-of-week push by all the other schools.
  23. I heard that CJ was a little late for a team meeting that he found out about at the last minute. There's no doubt that JD made an example of him. I'm just glad he did it before the MAC season really starts.

    Zippy Vote

So... back to the topic at hand, ZIPPY'S LEAD IS DOWN TO 50 VOTES! Let's get this thing going and protect our lead. This is a must-win situation for Zippy fans. We will be the only undefeated mascot left if we pull this off.
  25. http://www.cleveland.com/plaindealer/stori...0510.xml&coll=2An interesting article about the possible merger appeared in the PD today. The avoid the issues of which campus will be the main one and the the changeing of names. I am still sure that the University of Akron will be the main campus. We're almost twice as big as CSU and we are becoming a traditional (non-commuter) campus, while CSU is still a commuter school. I would absolutely love to have a "University of Akron - Cleveland Campus", and if the merger goes through, we all have to campaign loud and hard for this, lest we lose our identity.
