Wow. Wasn't the volleyball team horrid last year? At least, I remember them being lucky to even get a win. Looking much better this year, although I don't follow VB enough to know what type of competition they are up against.

Good News Concerning Will Flemming
ZachTheZip replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
He was playing TE yesterday in the win over Garfield. Didn't look too bad considering how hot it was and that he also played on the defense. -
That's just it. Thomas settled for far less than what other teams in the same situation are getting to play there. I was hoping that Mack Rhoades would put his foot down and stop this "settling for less" crap. I would have called up OSU's AD and said that unless they are willing to re-negotiate the pay-out to reflect similar team's payouts that we would not be going to OSU and they would have to find some other team to fill in their schedule. It shows weakness to just sit around and do nothing when you are clearly getting screwed out of your fair share of money. I can't blame OSU. They are getting a steal out of this. I expect Akron or any other college would do the same thing if they could get away with it. The problem is that Akron has allowed them to get away with it, while other teams refused until they got their fair share.

I may have had something to do with that, but I wasn't alone.

Here's a little article about how the MAC gets paid to lose. It shows how much the teams get for playing horrendously difficult schedules that would cause riots amongst season ticket holders in larger schools.http://www.cleveland.com/collegesports/pla...0480.xml&coll=2Look past the tone of the article, we are used to hearing that attitude towards the MAC by now, and check out some of the problems the MAC has by promoting the scheduling of these road games. I can't help but feel that a sellout home srowd would be better for the program in the long run, but the MAC itself and many ADs prefer the quick and dirty route to a payday. It's the reason the MAC will never be anything more than it is right now. Here's a graphic to go with it.Interesting, no?

Same here. I think they gave infocision the list of season ticket holders. Having Infocision make calls about UA is a huge marketing tool. One that should be used more often. They should call NE Ohio high school seniors with a survey about choosing UA. They should call sports fans about the football and basketball team. UA really needs to get a massive contract with them to call people everywhere about all sorts of UA stuff. It only makes sense, considering how apparently close UA is to the company.

Jackson goes by CJ, Jacquemain goes by Chris. Their friends, teammates and coaches use that system and the fans will too, to avoid confusion during the season.

You forget that we play in the MAC. It's win the tourney or go home this year. Some teams in the MAC still brag about how tough their OOC schedule is, only to be rejected by the committee for not having enough wins. The only way any team in the MAC goes to the NIT is by winning the regular season title and losing in Cleveland. The NIT selection process is broken. Why not play teams to go undefeated and get some excitement in the community. We could start the MAC season with a ridiculous record and get people to come to the games. Last year we had horrid attendance given our record. It's time to fix that, and tat's what I think KD is attempting to do with this. Give us a good shot at winning each game. It's what the Major teams do: load up on cupcakes and then play a few teams that are on par with your own. I think this sets up a good schedule in the future with some return games.

I will be there with the ROWDIES, screaming my lungs out. We had better not lose another game to them. A thrashing is in order.

Three great places for Akron Gear are Value City (I bought a Brett Biggs Jersey there a while ago), Kohls on Arlington, and Steve & Barrys. They're really making an effort to put out UA jerseys and clothes, probably because school is starting up.

Rumor: Jackson wins the job.Rasor has done some snooping around and is pretty sure CJ has won the starting QB role, but we might have a "semi-platoon" like Florida had with their QB's last year, where each QB was played as needed to suit the situation.
-
I think it's all in his head. Kicking is highly mental, more so than any other position on the team. Missing a year, beating up a fellow student, having a competition where your competitors aren't good but you just can't seem to do better than them even when you should blow them away, can all have an effect on a person's psyche. He needs to see the team shrink.

http://www.ohio.com/sports/9304466.htmlNo patronizing tone, no little-engine-that-could story, no "oh, by the way, there is another football team besides the one in Colombus" feel, just straight up "This is the story, and this is the way the people involved are reacting to it" journalistic reporting. I think Pluto's figured it out! Just in time for him for the PD, too.

K.e.n.t. Declines 2008 Patriot Bowl
ZachTheZip replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
For all those that are jealous of Can't, Akron has been quietly rearranging their schedule to avoid teams having to come to the Rubber bowl so that they will delay their trip to Akron until the new stadium is built. There have been sacrificed home games with BCS teams as a result. Starting in 2009, we should start collecting the return trips that those teams owe us. 7 home games a season for a few years is a possibility if the schedule is done right. That should allow us a greater chance to win games against teams we normally wouldn't have a chance against playing in a hostile stadium. Patience is key here. Our schedules will be the envy of the MAC in a few years. -
I believe it refers to either passing the ball or pitching it to the RB/TE/FB, but never a handoff directly from the QB to the runner. I doubt it will be used much this year with a rookie QB, but we may implement later on after the QB and O-Line gain more experience.
-
And I predict him to be on the injured list and out for the rest of the year by week 10, should he start. Tim Couch was a good QB surrounded be a horrible team. The Browns broke him physically and mentally. The same will be true of Quinn before the season's over.
-
If it was bad news for Charlie, it has to be even worse news for Anderson. He downright sucked. Charlie might not be the best, but Anderson is clearly worse. If Quinn really is as good as advertised (I'm not convinced yet; junk time TD's against the most inept defense I've ever seen does not make him a starter), then he should still sit untill the bye week. The Browns need to try actually sitting their new QB for a while until he learns more. What a novel idea.Pluto: Make Frye starter, let Quinn sit.

Desired future opponents at InfoCision Stadium?
ZachTheZip replied to joshgozips's topic in Akron Zips Football
I'm up for any team as long as they're in a BCS conference and not named Ohio State (it's supposed to be a ZIPS home game, not Buckeyes). No teams from the Sun Belt or non DI-A (sorry Pengiuns). we need to up the quality of the home schedule. Big names get people to come to the stadium, and our campus in the process. Playing a good schedule filled with weak BCS teams (Vandy, Indiana, UConn, teams like that). Wins over BCS teams look impressive to recruits, even if we are supposed to beat them anyways. That would be ideal for a schedule overall and gives you more room to work with teams coming here in return games. -
The QB competition has been narrowed down to a race between Jackson and Jacquemain, according to This post on Rasor's Blog.Rodgers will likely redshirt unless an injury happens. Next year will get messy with 4 QB's in the mix, but I have the feeling that whomever starts the majority of games this year will be the favorite next year, and the only true competition will be from KC. The back-up at the end of the year will either switch positions or transfer. Rodgers will probably be groomed to be the starter for after everyone else graduates.

Just got my ticket. Section 120, row B. That's front seat Dawg Pound territory. I'm stoked!

Ha! We're in the MAC, that means that even if we put together a legitimate and obvious #1 team, we won't be ranked anywhere near it until we beat the traditional powers-that-be on our schedule. I am hoping for the Zips to become a traditional power, too, but first we will need a few national championships. I'm sure that we will see an NCAA championship trophy at UA in a few years. Could UA become the Louisville of soccer? I would love it. Now all we need is a field worthy of a #1 team. How's the upgrade going, or has it even been started?

I think you may be right, Roo2. I think he's delaying it because Rodgers is a true freshman, and he wants to give his sophomore QB's the chance to start first since they've "earned" it by being with the team for over two years. I really think that whoever ends up starting will good, regardless of who it is. Just different play styles.
