  1. http://www.ohiomm.com/blogs/zips/2007/08/0...es-from-monday/Romeo has signed with a team in Spain. He should be the star player there, from the looks of the roster.Good Luck Romeo!
  2. Well, duh. Players spend most of their day with the team, they know far more about who is doing good, bad, or just ok during practice. They talk to coaches every day. Of course they'll know more about it than the fans. What bugs me is that they don't bother to give information out to the people who obviously care so much about their team.Instead, they just blow the fans off, calling them uninformed.
  3. Rasor's notes.
  4. Woah. My math was a little off. I meant to say that we would get around 2,000 students, so it would increase fourty fold. Although, I certainly wouldn't complain if 10,000 students showed up. Maybe for greek night or something.Basketball is not a big draw for not only students, but alumni as well, because this is a football dominated region. If about 100 students attend an average basketball game, and the same ratio of alumni-to-students showed up for basketball games as football games, we would have to cram nearly 14,000 people into the JAR. As a precentage of attendance, students support the basketball team far better than the football team.
  5. Yep. There are about 50 students that go to every home game they can, myself included. That number should increase two-hundred fold with the stadium being on campus. Even more if there will be beer allowed. The whole "dry campus" thing could really hurt attendance in the future. Of course, if they do allow beer in the stadium, that might be the first step to getting an on-campus bar.
  6. It's called reloading instead of rebuilding. In time, I think you'll find the former to be much more preferable than the latter.
  7. Nobody can see any profiles anymore, I think. I know I can't.
  8. True, Akron has never gotten the best players in Ohio. The stadium and a few good years will change that.I'm not saying that one kids choice will influence all the local talent to leave the area, but there is no doubt that Sutton's decision has influenced Fleming a little bit. They were at the same school on the same team playing on the same field. They both have had the exact same football coach. I have personally talked to both of them, as I was also there at school with them. Sutton was determined to not go to a MAC school. He made this clear to everyone he met that brought up his scholarship offers. I am positive Fleming heard it, at least in passing. If Fleming comes to Akron, it means that our team will have a more little bit more of a local flavor to it. More people are willing to come to games if they know who the players are on the team. High school standouts that received press coverage before college will likely continue getting that coverage in college if they stay in the same region where they grew up. Fleming can be a playmaker for the Zips.
  9. http://www.ohiomm.com/blogs/zips/2007/08/0...-choosing-zips/We need him to come to Akron, badly. If he won't come here even with his father as a coach, it says some pretty pathetic stuff about Akron, and could influence top talent from Hoban to avoid choosing us in the future. I am sure Fleming is, at least slightly, influenced by Tyrell Sutton's decision to avoid the MAC at all costs.
  10. The PD article is titled "Akron U. to build stadium." They got it right in the article itself, though.
  11. http://cfn.scout.com/2/663387.htmlWell, I know that CFN is crap, but saying a team is the worst is a pretty strong statement. We could definetly use a pushover to give the team time time to gel before the OSU game. I actually think OSU plays a tougher season opener against YSU than Akron will against Army. Real game time is invaluable to rookie starters, even if they aren't immediately challenged against elite competition. This does put the pressure on the team to win, though. It was bad enough when we were shut out by them last time. I don't think I could take another loss to a team like that.
  12. I just uploaded 8 pics from Ohio.com's blurb. Some are on the stadium site, some aren't. I like the last one. It gets me excited for game day.
  13. Harvey left because he didn't like having to go to school. I have no idea where he is now. I just hope he doesn't pull a Maurice Clarett on us.
  14. I tried to get pics of them, but there were too many guys with suits blocking my view. I only got one picture that was relatively clear, It's not much, but it's all I have for now.I can't wait to watch the news tonight to see who picked up this story and who didn't. It will be a good barometer of which stations actually care about us.
  15. I think he may have been referring to the site listed above (http://www.uakron.edu/stadium/)...looks like the "Stadium-Live" link at the top may be an active link once construction begins. There is also a "Stadium Cam" in the left-hand portion of the page where the sponsors are listed. Ah. That wasn't there the last time I checked the site. They're putting stuff up on that site in a hurry. Must be a different team tha GoZips.com has.
  16. About ticket prices:Akron football will remain one of the best sports entertainment values in Northeast Ohio. The new stadium will increase revenue through substantial increases in attendance, not ticket prices. Single-game ticket prices for seats not in the premium areas will remain consistent with current prices. Season ticket packages may incur modest increases, due in part to additional home games being played at the new stadium.----------------Damn. That is shaping up to be possibly the best deal in all of sports, period. I hope the community is able to recognize that.
  17. I hope that they put up a webcam on top of the student union or somewhere really high that looks over the proposed stadium area. Watching it get built live on the web would really help when I'm bored at work.
  18. Listening to Mack Rhoades talk to Steve French on the way back from there, he mentioned that you can call the Athletic Office to donate and that there will be a website that will track the progress of the stadium. Only problem is that he never mentioned what the Athletic Office's phone number was or what the website URL is. I know today is a busy day for him, but come on. If you want donations, at least tell people where to go to donate.Other than that, everything was great. The whole event was awesome, and really has me excited. 2 years. That's it. Just two years.
  19. It sounds like they're determined to have a bridge to the fieldhouse. Lowest bidder gets the job.
  20. That's all the details I have for now. I might have more after its all over.
  21. Details from the Flyer they are handing out. 22. http://www.uakron.edu/stadium/They have a website. There's something in the north endzone that wasn't in the drawing.
  23. I'm in the student Union right now. Lots of important people everywhere. MAC officials, the usual UA people, and suprisingly few press members. I was hoping for this to at least be in the ABJ and the Plain Dealer, maybe the Repository if we're lucky, and possibly one news station other than Channel 3 (they seem like the only station to cover us regularly). Hopefully I just haven't seen them yet. I'll try to keep you updated on what's going on if I can.
  24. West Virginia runs it, but I'm not sure how long they've had it as a scheme. They're ranked #2 overall in the pre-season which is not too shabby if you ask me.
  25. I thought it was at noon. I'll be at Quaker Square, where I am pretty sure this announcement is being held. If anyone know any more details, nows the time to let everybody know. Help build up some buzz in the community.
