  1. http://www.ohiomm.com/blogs/zips/2007/08/3...in-great-shape/ Mike Rasor has just put an entry on his blog about the Mens BBall team and how they are in the best shape they have ever been in.A few quotes: " Under Keith Dambrot, players have never returned from summer in such great shape, according to assistant coach Jeff Boals.""Cedrick Middleton, who spent his summer interning at ESPN in Bristol, Conn., blew everyone away with a time of 4 minutes, 47 seconds.""The coaches are realistic in thinking the team might not be that great to begin the year."
  2. I haven't bought mine yet. I am going to do it tomorrow. I can't imagine that we would get very good seats. Quite possibly the worst ones in the Shoe.
  3. You know, I would like the MAC to stop playing the Big-10 so much and to start playing the C-USA much more often. But that would never happen, because it means less $$$ but more wins. And the MAC would never want to have more winnable games on the schedule.
  4. There's plenty left, but they're pretty expensive. $50 IIRC. Bus trip down there to party with the alumni is an extra $10, but that's cheaper than you'd pay for gas or parking if you drove.
  5. The problem with that is that people are stupid; They only care about what the news tells them to care about. Hence the general apathy towards genocides in Africa, the recent allying of Russia and China that could be posturing for a WWIII, and other stuff that's really really scary but the news won't cover.I would rather have everybody in the area that doesn't care or know about the Zips hate them than be apathetic. I'm sure that the BJ can find a few writers that would work for free just to get the chance to bash the Zips every day. At least then they would know that the Zips do, in fact, play footall games on saturday.
  6. Take a guess who wrote it. Yep. That right. YSU grad David Lee Morgan. He posted it on his blog.
  7. I'm leaving at 3:00 and taking the bus. I'll probably stop by and check out the tailgating. See you all there!
  8. That makes 3 this week. Was the one today at the JAR? I went in there to check on how many OSU game student tix were left (115 - we really need to sell those out soon), and there were about 7 police cruisers parked there and state troopers were swarming the place. I thought it was a drug bust or something, but a bomb threat is much scarier. It goes to show you just how far some people will go just to not go to class.
  9. I'm working. I really wanted to go and be part of the "goal patrol"! It should be awesome. The Zips need to win all their games to have a chance at the NCAA tournament, no matter how good we really are, because we are in the MAC.
  10. Rumor has it that Harvey is enrolled in classes at UA again.
  11. The attendance will be OK once the stadium is built. String together a few bowl appearences over the next 5 years and you have yourself a money-making program. Our other sports can help the cause by consistantly beating teams from BCS conferences (soccer, volleyball, track, ect.) Basketball needs a few NCAA tourney runs as well. In short, winning is the biggest challenge we need to overcome, not attendance, facilities, or location.
  12. where is the muni lot? Get on to the shoreway (route 2) heading east from East 9th. As soon as you enter, exit again on your right. That's the Muni lot. It will be filled with air sho attendees until 4:00 when the show ends.
  13. Everybody needs to bring at least 10 friends with them. We might make 15,000 actual bodies in the stadium if we try really really hard. The AK-Rowdies and the Army recruiters both had tables up in the student union this weekend and were promoting the game. My guess is about 150 students will show up. It should be better for the home games, though.
  14. I'm taking a bus there from Akron, if it can be arranged (I'm still waiting to find out where to sign up). Parking will be a nightmare. On the plus side, there should be plenty of cool flyovers for the pre-game festivities due to the air show.
  15. Army has a new head coach / coaching staff. Akron's defense is going to be spectacular. Those two things mean that Akron should have a shutout against Army, but it depends on how well the offense works. The O-line needs to be very good at run-blocking.
  16. Me, too September 9th can't get here soon enough.
  17. Adam Ferrise isn't very optimistic. 4 wins?! Come on man, it's your job to be the biggest homer that covers the Zips.
  18. I have just heard that the AK-Rowdies may actually share the bus with the alumni and party together before the game. Not sure if this is true, but I'm looking into it. It could mean that not very many people are going...
  19. I'm not saying that OSU should have called up Mr. Rhoades and offered us a more up-to-date amount of $$$. That would be stupid on their part. I'm saying that Mr. Rhoades should have been the one to start negotiations. In your scenario, YSU should have called up Akron to negotiate a better payment, not the other way around. Also, many of you forget that YSU and Can't both get significantly more money than Akron. Only one of those schools were a "filler" for the 12th game. The other one was not. Can't was the filler, so they should naturally get more for scheduling on short notice. Still, Akron should get more than YSU (excluding Tressel's extra "gift" $$$) if only because of our higher division affiliation. This game is the result of leftover weak scheduling from a bygone era. It should have been dumped or re-negotiated when we changed ADs.Note: This assumes that the MAC itself has no control over scheduling games with the Big-10, and that the high number of games between the conferences is merely the choice of eaach individual school. If the MAC front office is involved, which is very likely, then it is another of the policies that prevent the conference from advancing in the sports world, but that's the subject of another debate.
  20. Any word on Middleton's state of mind? He took that last loss pretty hard. I was worried that he would do something stupid. No news is probably good news. He should be the most motivated player in Zips history this year.
  21. I'm parking in the courthouse, if I decide not to take the student bus up there. Parking will be horrible where ever you might go. On second thought, the bus sounds like a good option.
  22. http://www.gozips.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_...&ATCLID=1177990The Zips have won the invitational by beating A-10 favorites Temple. Way to go!
  23. The Zips need a relatively competitive game against Army in order to see how the players play in that type of situation, and work out kinks. They also could do with a big crowd to see how playing games like that are, before they go to Colombus and get overwhelmed. Unfortunately, neither of these things will happen. Akron will blow out Army in front of a crowd of less than 30,000. See you all on Saturday!Go Zips!
  24. The problem is that the OSU game is not a big money game by today's standards. Look how much UConn is paying us, and we have a legitimate shot at winning that game. I don't want any more money games scheduled that we have no chance to win, unless it's an offer you can't pass up i.e. > $500,000 for the next few years and adjusted for inflation if it's set for some far off future year. The OSU game is not worth it, IMO. It gets us no exposure unless we win, which is extremely unlikely. People complain about the community not caring. Well, getting blown out by the team that the community does care about will not help our cause. UConn and Indiana are better in terms of exposure and at getting us a shot at winning. Akron's goal should be to win the MAC or at least get to a bowl. That means winning games, which means not playing teams that we obviously can't beat. If it was scheduled in the past, play it, but don't make anymore games with perrenial top 10 teams until the program gets to the point that we can hang with them every game.
  25. What a load of crap. So we lost a few recievers. Does that mean the team is going down the gutters? Or is it because the team is stressing discipline more than before, and that bothered him? Hakes left because he was 4th on the depth chart and saw the writing on the wall. Just admit it.
