  1. Zen-Please be careful with your use of the word evicted. There is a huge difference between being "evicted" and being compensated (as it's been said a hundred times on here) "above fair market value". You are misleading in your argument when you use that word. Eminant domain is a touchy subject and I'm on the fence about it, so I don't really have an argument either way, but these people are hardly being kicked out.
  2. Sounds to me like they were all a bunch of cry-baby little divas. I say good riddance. You can't build a program with attitudes like that. It's a shame about snowden though, but in my experience if you get homesick at college it's your own fault. You have to get out and make new friends and stay busy. Being a student-athlete, that should have been easy for her because you are almost forced to get to know people (i.e. all the other athletes). The team will be fine, step one in rebuilding is changing the attitude of the team and the perception of the team and I think coach is on the right track.
  3. I don't think there was. I think the LeBron thing is that all our athletic teams will now have Nike LeBron gear in the near future.Hope not, addidas stuff blows nike away IMO. I think only basketball was doing that anyway, which would make the most sense. Don't take it the wrong way, I am thrilled that Akron is being considered by LeBron's people to become associated with Nike/LeBron. I respect him for sticking local and supporting Akron the way he does. I just think that addidas clothes and especially shoes are more comfortable and last longer and suit other sports like baseball, tennis, and especially soccer better than nike/lebron or even just nike for that matter.
  4. Stumbled upon this picture and it gave me a good chuckle........were they the Akron Camels before they became the Akron Zips?Actually the caption said that Ringling Brothers had been to the Rubber Bowl in the past. Maybe that explains how the bathrooms became so scary.
  5. I'm sorry I opened that can of worms. No more talk of parking, this is a traditions thread. How about this, before every game while people are tailgating and such they blast on the PA "Karn Evil" by Emerson Lake and Palmer. At least the beginning to let people know it's about to go down. "Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends, we're so glad you could attend come inside come inside......."
  6. I hadn't considered the price of parking, only where said parking would take place. I like the airplane idea though, it's creative. I agree with ZippyAlum that any traditions should be original and not borrowed from other schools. The great thing about moving the games on campus is that it provides a great opportunity to start something new. I may not have been a part of the nation for very long, but I must say this is probably my favorite thread to read through, there are a lot of interesting ideas here.
  7. Speaking of the band marching in before the game, and since we are all talking about robbing things from other universities, how about this. At a school I went to for a while down south the band would march in and parade all the way around the stadium and play for the tailgaters before the game. They would stop on every side play the fight song then march on to the next to a simple "tap, tap, tap" on the drums. It was really exciting to hear them coming and everyone would get pumped up. Best part was, you didn't have to put down your beer to go to a pep rally, they came to you. This could happen at the Rubber Bowl I suppose, but I still haven't figured out how they are going to manage the parking situation at the Info, especially with construction on the student housing not being completed until the following year.
  8. Just a sidenote...... Believe it or not, asbestos is still used today. The EPA tried to ban it twenty years ago or so and the building materials companies sued and the courts decided that they couldn't stop them from using it. Fortunately most American manufacturers don't use it anymore but if you buy drywall or tile from Canada or Mexico it could be asbestos containing, so beware.
  9. Haha...funny!Like I said...I'm sure there is a reason why they are waiting to post their new signees. The timing probably hasn't been the best either with basketball winding down and softball and baseball's news releases picking up. Then you have the events surrounding the groundbreaking and the Spring Festival this weekend. Not to mention another signing period begins next week. GoZips.com probably spreads out the press releases to make sure each announcement gets time on the front page. The soccer announcement is going to be big news, so they probably just want to time it right.True, it seems that articles get buried on gozips sometimes rather quickly, especially lately like you said with so much going on. Since soccer is so big around here, it would be a shame for their announcement to get bumped out quickly. Not to mention since their signing period is so long they may be waiting until everyone signs to announce the entire class at once, and maybe they haven't gotten everyone signed yet.
  10. Until they sign the NLI they aren't allowed to announce who their recruits are. So you won't see a list until after the signing period. And I think GoZips does a pretty good job announcing the new signees.
  11. Just show up. Everything is free this year. There is a soccer scrimmage, baseball game, softball game and lots of festivities.Check it out herehttp://www.gozips.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_...;ATCLID=1418433BTW....Scooby Doo is going to be there, which I find ironic because during the VCU-Akron bracket buster the announcers said that Zippy looked like Scooby Doo with a beanie on. Boo ESPN.....Boo
  12. Really? You like their live by the 3, die by the 3 philosophy? Everytime I watch them they are pulling up for a three....That's Akron's style as well. Plus, that's the way Ford played, bring in your face defense and drain threes. He called the shot from the top of the key a "Three point lay-up". I believe T. Ford is definitely one of the most exciting up and coming coaches. But is his style much different from Donovan's? Besides, they were at UK at the same time. Should be an interesting matchup with the Suckeyes, still hope UMass wins.
  13. Is there a "big announcement" in the agenda? Oh, and congrats Zipmeister. You were the first to get me all day. And I've had co-workers trying since 4am. I actually suggested a "big announcement" weeks ago to help set up this morning's communication. Unfortunately, as far as I know there is no such announcement planned (hope I'm wrong).O-kay, Zipmeister. That put you on my Can't List! As I said in an earlier post, I'm an eternal optimist and ya had me hopin' all month ... How about from now on we save April fools jokes for APRIL FOOLS DAY!!!!!, but good one, my only suggestion.....go buy yourself a model airplane, you need a hobby.
  14. Definitely. Nobody likes to lose, but if you are going to then who better than the eventual champion. Even if you did have them beat with 10 minutes to go and finish on the short end of a 22-5 run. Don't mean to sound sarcastic, just sayin it should be us playing the suckeyes.
  15. I really do have better things to do with my time then to make up stores about the Women's Basketball program. And since when does Women's basketball get talked about on message boards.I didn't say you made it up, only that what you heard may be wrong.
  16. I have to question your source's credibility. Until I see it somewhere other than the message boards, I don't believe it.
  17. I heard that only basketball was switching to the Nike LeBron brand. I think OSU is doing the same.
  18. While scouring the Kentucky message boards (of all places) today during their game I ran across these two threads:http://www.kentucky.rivals.com/showmsg.asp...888&style=2andhttp://www.kentucky.rivals.com/showmsg.asp...888&style=2Some good toilet reading, not much to it, but thought the Nation would like to know our neighbors to the south see things kinda like us.
  19. I have to disagree to some extent with this. Growing up in the south in the heart of SEC country, the MAC was always the proverbial "Mid-Major" I was always most concerned about. That goes for basketball and football. I think compared to other conferences the MAC is in that gray area between suck and good. Here's an exampleOVC, Ivy League-suckMAC, A10, Missouri Valley-ehACC, SEC, Big East-good Cool thing about the "eh" teams is they can step up and beat the good teams on any given night. Bad thing is the suck teams can beat the "eh" teams too. I like where we are, it kind of allows us to fly under the radar a little. (i.e. Tuesday night)
  20. Looks like Who-Gives-A-Flip/Not-What-We-Really-Wanted/Let's-Get-Some-People-In-Here ticket pricing! Sure beats MAC tourney pricing!ACC tourney pricing is much greater than this, if you can even get a ticket. My son paid a scalper last year for a first round tourney ticket $70.00. This is normal pricing for NIT game tickets. So far as thinking they do not care, the players are fired up. The seniors especially look at this as a chance to show the NCAA that they were wrong the past two years by snubbing them for the big dance. The band is fighting among themselves as to who gets to be among the 30 person limit to play for the game. Those that are not chosen by the director are going anyhow with student priced tickets just so they can support the team they have been watching all year. They have 100 members in the basketball band.If any of you are able to go to the game, welcome. Hopefully you will have a good experience in Tally. From a former Barberton girl now living in Florida.Yeah, I'm sure people aren't paying $70 to see the "Creminoles". I hear there are some decent teams in the ACC. Somebody named Duke and that #1 seed whose name I can't seem to remember, but they got that buggy eyed kid in the middle. By the way didn't that team pound on Can't earlier this year? (Had to throw that in there)Looks like the spread is down to 7 now, Vegas is getting worried, they heard the Zips had their lasagna!
  21. Excellent point, but I'd like to add one more thing. In college sports there is a thing called a retention factor. Each team is given points by the NCAA when a player leaves early or is kicked off the team. Too many points=loss of scholarships. If guys flunk out or are kicked off the team, you get points. If a guy forfeits his scholarship and leaves, no points. I think around 5 points you start losing scholarships, etc. I'm not positive about the details though. Like you said, at this level, people aren't going pro left and right, so if you are losing players it's probably not good, (i.e. academic reasons, conduct reasons etc.) BTW if a player on MY team got a DUI.........well let's just say I'd take points for that one.
  22. I have to disagree. I wouldn't say they are a "better" team. The last two games against them our terrible shooting made their defense look stellar. Anybody know how many shots we missed within 5 feet last night? And I'm not even going to mention free throws which (to let you in the know) are uncontested. When you shoot 39% from the field and miss as many layups and gimmes as we did you aren't going to beat many teams. In my humble opinion our guys were too concerned with Ham'n'cheese inside to take it strong. From where I was sitting it looked like whenever we got close to the basket we were fading away or shooting offbalance to try and avoid having our junk handed back to us. We did somehow manage to get him in foul trouble, but it was too late to take advantage of it.
  23. I agree, it is my experience in only a few months with UA that Can't fans are pretty redneck. Maybe they will secede from NE ohio and go down the road to West Virginia. Ok that's probably not going to happen. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed when they booed during the Army's ceremony. Best I could tell though, they booed when they mentioned the President. What a bunch of hippies. Did anyone else find it interesting too that while Akron's following stayed somewhat consistent throughout the entire tournament the Can't fans, while there were plenty on Friday night, really only turned out for Saturday's game? They are just a bunch of fair weather fans who decided to put their hash pipes and bongs down one saturday to come to cleveland. I did appreciate some of the Akron fans retaliation in the parking lot "One and Done, One and Done, One and Done" Pretty clever.
  24. Heard today from friends down south that Kentucky took us off their schedule for this fall. They released a revised schedule. They gave us the boot for Middle Tenn. What a rip. They better still open our new stadium cause they are gonna suck really bad next year and what a way to break it in than to knock off an SEC team, even if it is one of the SEC bottomfeeders.
