  1. While I think the below is correct, there were many times this statement should have been released about Akron targeting calls as well. The Mid-American Conference announced this afternoon that the officiating crew incorrectly called a targeting foul on Northern Illinois defensive lineman Quintin Wynne during the NIU-Akron contest on Thursday, Nov. 1 at Akron. With 5:09 left in the third quarter, Wynne was penalized for targeting on a hit on Akron quarterback Kato Nelson and was disqualified for the remainder of the contest. The officiating crew reviewed the play immediately and determined that Wynne used his helmet with contact to Nelson’s helmet during the play. Upon further review, Bill Carollo, Coordinator of Football Officials for the Collegiate Officiating Consortium, has determined that the officiating crew was incorrect in calling Wynne for targeting and should not have been ejected. “After a thorough review and evaluation of the entire Northern Illinois at Akron contest, this specific targeting call on Northern Illinois’ defensive lineman Quintin Wynne was incorrect. This has been reviewed internally and addressed with the entire officiating crew,” said Carollo. “The game official’s primary responsibility is player safety and we will always try to err on the side of safety especially when potential targeting fouls are involved. In this particular case the targeting foul did not rise to the high standard we expect from our game officials and replay crew. A targeting indicator was not present on the play and replay should have reversed the call on the field,” added Carollo. The Mid-American Conference considers this matter concluded and will have no further comment.
  2. From what I'm told, expect a twelfth game. It will be played away, and it is an FBS school. Details coming soon.
  3. No Three for Thursday winners this week. @Dr Z "Score goes over 38.5 by a td or more" @zippy5 "we don't have a fumble" @zipsoutsider "Zips have zero fumbles"
  4. Added, good luck.
  5. Which one would you like? I wasn’t sure. I’ll add it.
  6. CK's is very fearless, all good though. I hope that Sunday "hold on to the ball" practice the Zips had pays off for some of the forecasting. @ziptrumpet87 "D scores more points than O" @Blue & Gold "No TD's scored in the game" @Dr Z "Score goes over 38.5 by a td or more" @NWAkron "Zips commit no turnovers" @zippy5 "we don't have a fumble" @Captain Kangaroo "Jeremiah "Boogie" Knight dances not once, but twice in the endzone as the punt return team leads the Zips to victory" @zipsoutsider "Zips have zero fumbles" @Lee Adams "Sutton Smith has three sacks" @ZipsVoice "announced attendance over 17,500" @Section210Zip "The Zips will finally win the booth review battle at home "
  7. For the record, not that it will matter to some, I know of no ZipsNation member that wanted Keith Dambrot replaced before he left the University. I remember reading a handful of posters thought we reached our potential with his teams, and wanted more (an NCAA tournament win), but didn't think replacing him was the answer. I see very little, if any similarities between Keith Dambrot's situation when he left, and coach Bowden's current situation. The offense needs to be more productive, I think we can all agree with that. Coach has echoed the same. I hope the staff and players can figure it out, and finish out the season strong. November is when you win the MAC. I've always liked what coach Bowden said when he got here "we have to figure out how to win at Akron"
  8. Coach singles out "number fifteen" in his press conference calling him one of the best. Sutton Smith, #15, is 11th in the nation in sacks with 7. According to Shannon Ryan of the Chicago Tribune...The redshirt junior spent the offseason figuring out how to add to his frame and his legacy, which he said he hopes will include a Heisman Trophy candidacy. “Everyone says (opponents) have had a year to prepare for me,” Smith said. “I look at it differently. I say I’ve had a year to prepare for them.” His formula for adding about 20 pounds of muscle, bulking up to 241? “A lot of freaking eating,” he said. He consumes about 6,000 to 7,000 calories per day, including three 1,500-calorie protein shakes. He eats every 2½ hours, devouring broccoli, rice and chicken like it’s a job. At home this summer in Missouri, he and his older brother spent hours in the gym. Photo: Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports
  9. • Lako went from (undersized) walk-on to MAC defensive player of the week. • Brian Bell has a hamstring issue. • NIU has a great defense, and they score just enough to win. They don't care about stats. • We went back to basics on Sunday practice, how to hold on to the ball. • NIU leads the league in sacks #15 is one of the best at it. • NIU blitzes through the run lanes. • You can pick up stuff watching a game live (BYU vs NIU) rather than the tape because announcers can give away stuff during the broadcast. They get to interview the coaches during the week.
  10. Fearless Forecast: The score goes over (38.5) by a touchdown or more. On a short week, offensive game plan is condensed, and Kato and Van light up the scoreboard.
  11. Include your Fearless Forecast for the game in this thread. A Fearless Forecast is a bold prediction about the game that isn't included in the weekly poll. A few examples from last week: @ZipsVoice "we will have a special teams TD" @zipsoutsider "most sacks by Zips D of the year" @zippy5 "CMU doesn't score a point"
  12. Not taking anything away from 40's accomplishments, but, I think part of the Chips offensive game plan was to avoid 5. I think 40 made the most of his opportunities, and then some. Congrats to him!
  13. This shouldn't be surprising to anybody that watched the game, or even peeked at the box score. Lako had a career-high 23 tackles, two TFL, a fumble recovery, and a pass break-up. I wonder how many fans recognized that this was going on during the game?
  14. I feel the same about Hakeem. 6. Cleveland Browns PICK: Hakeem Butler, WR, Iowa State The 6-foot-5, 220-pound Butler is proving to be one of the best mismatch receivers in college football. Not only does he win with his size, but he also does so with balance and strength, often running for many yards after the catch, which is why he’s averaging over 22.0 yards per catch for the season, with six touchdowns to boot. At his size, Butler’s style of dominance over cornerbacks, at times, reminds me of A.J. Green. I think Green was more explosive of an athlete laterally, but I do think their play styles are similar, and I believe their ability to win one-on-one matchups can come in a lot of the same ways. Butler has never had a 1,000-yard receiving season in college, but neither did Green. Both were underutilized, but when targeted, were difference makers consistently. For that, I think Butler’s a future No. 1 in the NFL, as long as he works to perfect what his craft can be.
  15. Discuss your answers to the questions below.
  16. Huskies favored by 4.5. I have not watched an NIU game this year, but just looking at the stats (which is always a terrible idea) below, the teams seem very similar.
  17. The Zips won by seven totaling 303 yards of offense, Van out rushed Kato by himself, and Nate Stewart led receivers with 62 yards. @zzx comes close, but no winners this week. Better luck this week. Poll will be appear Tuesday for the Thursday game.
  18. The refs said he bumped into an official. As Brady walked by me he said "who the heck did I bump into?" I didn't see it (other side of the field), so I can't reply. I thought he played one of his better games before having to leave.
  19. Maverick Wolfley is a good receiving option.
