Question: What is the current state of the Zips?Defensively, we have our ups and downs and this last game was really a down. We have the capabilities to do good things. We just have to get better and play much better than we did against Eastern Michigan. We are looking for consistency. You see players do the right things and play well one play and do something completely different later in the same situation.Question: Can you win with this defense?Yes we can. If you look at the season we have played well enough to win. You just can not give teams short fields, especially late, and think the defense will be able to stop an opponent when they only have to go 10-30 yards to score. We have to improve during the bye week.Source----------------------------------------We are giving up 405 yards per game, only 26 teams in the nation are worse. That is a LOT of 10-30 yard scores!?!?Only 5 teams in the nation are worse than us at giving up rushing yards. If you want to succeed in defense, STOP the run.I'm glad that whomever is asking the questions, keeps on asking if he can win with this defense week after week.Coaching staff, improve our D during our time off. It will make all other phases of the game seem so much easier.

Totally agree. We don't HAVE to have 4 good DL. How about 2 or 3 good DL and 1 or 2 average DL. Works for everybody else.

It's all about numbers if you blitz a DB in a 3-3-5, offense only has to block 4 attackers.Blitz a DB in a 4-3 and now they have to block 5.When JD described this defense, he said you would never know where the pressure is coming from in a 3-3-5.I'm thinking my definition of pressure and his definition of pressure are not the same.You are right ZW, we do NOTHING to disrupt the QB. On top of that the QB always has the running game to depend on.We do everything to make the opposing QB's job easy.

The Toledo game will be like the rest of our games. Pressure will be on our offense to score on almost every possession.That's the way the 3-3-5 roles, it's a bend and break D.At least it's consistent.

While I see your point uakronkid, make no mistake, JD has said many times flat out,one of the reasons we play the 3-3-5 is because it is hard to recruit DL.

I would hope for the rest of the time that Charlie is in the NFL and somebody posts an update on something he does, it doesn't turn into a bash Charlie thread.Have some pride people. I realize he played for the Browns and that skews a lot of peoples opinion, but come on, everybody that doesn't like him is WELL documented.
