  1. scUM will be decimated by our guys. I will be there early and will be making noise all nightAs for the soccer facility... I have heard rumors about it and I swear I have seen renderings SOMEWHERE, but to be completely honest, I haven't heard a thing as far as a renovation of the soccer facility. I have heard that more bleachers, new playing surface, new lights, and new fencing were being upgraded, but I have absolutely no way of confirming that. Perhaps someone else can chime in here?
  2. Here's to the people who abuse the system and hold out to make more money than they rightfully should.
  3. I just heard on ESPN that the SEC reviewed it and said that the referee was in correct position and that the player ran into him..... RIIIIGHT
  4. It's not just basketball and the fact LeBron is supporting Akron's basketball program, its other sports too. Men's soccer is downright amazing and every game I have been to here at home has had a large attendance.Want to know an interesting fact? Akron is playing OSU on Nov 7 and so far the AK-Rowdies president has gotten so many people who want to go that we currently plan on taking 3 tour busses full of students... FOR A SOCCER GAME. Imagine what the possibilities could be once football starts picking up more wins
  5. Its not just fox sports, its just FOX. that entire news company is full of bullsh!t to their eyeballs.
  6. simple answer: yeswill it be easy: no
  7. thats good to hear. Hopefully that'll become a real good pre-game tradition.
  8. I just happened to think of this... with the new stadium being on campus... I wonder if the Band will do something along the lines of what OSU does before games in that they will do a march to their cadence from a meeting location (perhaps the JAR in our case) to the stadium. Think about it... band marching down Carrol from the JAR to Spicer and then down to the new vehicle access ramp for the new stadium. It would put them going past much of the primary parking for the stadium and would definitely get people pumped up for the game. Hopefully someone else in the band department has thought of this and will do this. It could make for a very very energizing pre-game experience.
  9. Thanks for the compliments! Not sure if you all noticed, but I did stop over at the stadium to take some pictures of whats been going on... feel free to check those out as well
  10. Stopped over at the beam and the stadium to take some pictures. akronzipsbetch... I looked and didn't see anything. That beam was LOADED by the time I had gotten there (3:30-ish today). I didn't see a whole lot that was offensive... glad that a lot of students stopped by to put their name on it. I put mine on there twice just for good measure. Here are pics of the beam. Click here for all the pictures including those I took over at the stadium.
  11. I'm heading up there today. It rained last night and I didn't want to take my camera out in the rain.If you forget or don't have time I planned on bringing my cam to class tomorrow.Do me a favor and take a pic of the top left corner though, nearest the tennis courts Will do. I may also stop over at the stadium to take a few pictures of whats happening over there.
  12. for reference, the blue glass one is the Goodyear Polymer Center... just to let you know For those who havent been on campus and aren't in the loop, they tore down old Carrol Hall last year and it was replaced with green space. Supposedly Memorial Hall is next, however, I have heard that they are going to replace it with a new building. Not sure what it would be, but if they are in fact doing that, then theres a good chance that new building could be a new polymer building. It definitely would fit in with all the new architecture in the area

  14. 100% Agree. Without this University and the amazing President we have in Proenza, this city wouldn't be much to talk of. Even though Akron has its flaws, its obviously starting to turn for the better.
  15. I have a feeling that they are going to cover up those markings that are left that are deemed inappropriate...
  16. Actually... they put in a new goalie for the second half. I don't remember what the name was of the guy who was in for the first half when us Rowdies were behind him, but I do know the replacement's name was Aaron. Surprisingly, the replacement did a better job, although we had already put our bench guys in.
  17. I voted for the first option mainly because I believe we have the talent to win against nearly any MAC team (Ball State not included). However, I don't know a whole lot about the EMU team, so my opinion is biased towards the zips... then again, I am a student and a fan of the zips, so should you expect any less?
  18. the problem with marching band is now and has always been that you are sending musicians in to entertain football fans. not exactly two like minded groups. the football fans have the ADD mentality of wanting something f-lashy and easy to follow, but the musicians are more into things that you have to look hard at to find the beauty. in other words it's like sending ballerinas to work at a strip clubthats quite the comparison  I can definitelty see it from both sides. While I am not someone who has been in band or ever played an instrument, I spent a lot of time during high school with the band as many of my close friends were in band, so I have come to appreciate those smaller things in a marching band.Theres really no way of pleasing everybody in this case... at least not easily.
  19. I think us AK-Rowdies did get into that goalie's head... he made some pretty bonehead plays that cost him a couple goals. Not that we needed them to win, but it probably wouldn't have let the score look so lopsided. It was also good to see the bench players put up 3 in the second half, of which nearly all of them were on very good plays. It really shows that we've got a lot of depth. This has now been the second home game this year I've been to that the Zips put up at least 7 points... they are looking to be in very good shape for the MAC Tournament.
  20. Dont get me wrong, I love Akron's sound, but like you mentioned, the marching and stepping style (or how you put it "crowd-pleasing" style) leaves something to be desired. At least we can say we're better than can't state in that they have to use microphones and speakers hooked up to the band so that people can hear them across the stadium while our band was clearly audible from the the opposite endzone (not EXACTLY that far, but close enough)
  21. yeah, thats how they are normally done. Because of that, I am not too sure that they're going to be putting those in till maybe spring because of everything under them needed completed (at least to the point where they dont need to bring in large equipment)They can set preformed in the winter. They did when they built Cleveland Stadium and I had those cams going then. It's concrete they don't like pouring when it's lower then 32 degrees.Forgot about that...The yeah, I could see them putting the upper pieces in during the winter months... hopefully before a lot of the snow comes and buries the place

  23. skip-zip... you are right. I can see this defense working if the personnel is right. Maybe JD did use the 3-3-5 because of what he had. Maybe he did it because it offered him flexibility... we don't know. And yes, you are right that we arent rushing just 3 guys on the scrimmage; we are sending LBs to block up the running lanes. However the downfall to having a DB or LB running at the line is that the offense will see that, namely the RB in the case of a running play, and will make the necessary adjustments to take a different lane. However, you are right. Tackling needs to be better. If we could just knock a yard or two off our opponent's YPC, it'd open up many more opportunities for us defensively. The bright side of our defense: they have been very good at creating turnovers.... however, I wonder what the stat is of how many points we have scored off of turnovers and how many turnovers have resulted in scoring...
  24. This is very bad timing for JD... with the new stadium coming, it's going to be a major recruiting point. Even so, the greater issue is locker room stability. If you bring in a new coach for next year, chances are that he'll be using a new system and the personnel he'd be working with would be all JD recruits. That would more than likely cause our inaugural season at the Info a disaster. Yes, JD hasn't won at home this year, but if anyone wants a decent shot at winning some games at the Info in its first year, JD is the man. I would much rather go into next season with JD at the helm and have roughly the same successes and failures as this year (aside from those damn home losses) than go into the season with the new stadium and end up at the bottom of the MAC...
