  1. this is going to hurt us pretty badly if we tie... we'll probably get shafted again in the seeding because of this tie...
  2. Looks like we've had more chances. Evan's only had to make two saves. Their goaltender has made 4.True. I have been watching the gametracker for a while and it has seeded like we had a lot of chances. Hopefully we'll be able to tack on another goal to put this one out of reach.
  3. PSU seems to have had more opportunities to score on us, but they are just racking up the fouls. As of 8:23pm, they have 18 fouls. The bad part for us: we've had 4 offsides.Looks like we're at least being very agressive.
  4. Okay...I thought about this as well when I saw the renderings and the web cams, and I think that if they were to expand to one end zone, I think they'd go with the North end zone. The south one will have the new dorms very closeby, but more that I think leaving the south end zone open makes it more inviting to people who are driving by on Exchange. On the north side, they have much more room to work with. However, like you said, I wonder if the footers and support walls in the north end zone facility are being designed to potentially support the load of an entire deck of stadium seating.
  5. Do you mean like a temporary bleacher or do you mean like an addition to the actual stadium structure?Granted I don't see them ever needing more than what is being built, but for sake of clarity...
  6. Interesting question...A win/loss to either team doesn't help us any. A loss for buffalo puts that at 1-3 in conference, whereas a loss for Ohio puts them at 1-4... conversely, a win for the canadians puts them at 2-2 and a win for ohio puts them at 2-3.Based on that, I think it's best to root for the kitties in this case. Buffalo winning ties them with us for first place in the MAC East, something we don't want. A win for Ohio puts them, if I am doing this right, 1/2 game behind us and keeps us in first place. Now, we do have both these teams on our remaining schedule, however, I think it'd be best if we were ahead of either team in the standings before playing them. I guess I am rooting for the kitties of OU then...
  7. Take, for example, Tyrelle Pryor. Besides OSU, he was wondering Penn State and M!ch!gan, and a few other marquee BCS schools.Big-time recruits won't fall to us unless they suffered a major injury their senior year and the BCS schools find some reason to not offer them a scholarship.Recruiting for us is just a little harder and requires us to do a little more searching. At OSU, recruits quite literally throw themselves at the program in hopes of getting a scholarship.
  8. Like the saying goes... Offense sells tickets, but defense wins championships
  9. Honestly, I would prefer the Buckeyes to be decently ranked before we play them. However, beggars can't be choosers and I'll take beating the Buckeyes any day.
  10. I will admit that I am both a OSU and Zips fan, although lately I have been ashamed to be a fan of the former of the two. However, lately I have started to drift away from being an OSU fan and towards a Zips fan because of the excitement factor. No, I am not a fair weather fan of the buckeyes, and no, I am not a bandwagoner, I am just a fan who has come to realize that a Zips season offers much more excitement where each win means something to us.Think about it... when was the last time you heard an OSU fan after a win during the regular season, namely in conference, say "That was a huge win. It's really going to help this team go to the next level and compete for the conference title"? Not recently at all. OSU has been, year in and year out, a Big 10 title contender. To OSU fans, ONE loss is devastating to their season because now the chances of competing for a BCS title are gone. To them, an 8-4 season is a rebuilding year. If OSU doesn't go to a bowl game, BCS or not, the season was a complete and total failure and probably would result in the firing of the head coach. The expectations at OSU are so sky-high, even the slightest loss is cause for the season to be deemed a failure. Conversely, look at ourselves, the Zips fans. At the beginning of this season, everyone and their mother picked us to finish dead last in the east, and IIRC, would rack up MAYBE 1 win (I need verification for that). Look at where we are now, sitting atop the East and contending for a MAC title. Yes, we haven't exactly played to our highest potential (I am thinking of 2 games right now we SHOULD have won), but we are WINNING and are sitting in good position. To us, MAKING it to a bowl game is our equivalent to a National Title. We all accept the reality that the BCS system isn't fair to us mid-major teams and essentially prevents us from ever having the opportunity to compete for a BCS title, but we take it in stride. To us, each and every win during the season is a big win and often goes a long way to improving the confidence of our team and propelling them to more wins, and ultimately to the possibility of winning the MAC title and heading to a Bowl game. You see... I am finding it to be much more exciting to be a Zips fan because of the complete uncertainty of how well we will do each season. When expectations are set low, its MUCH easier to meet and exceed those expectations, making everything seem that much better. When expectations are set high and you fail to even meet them, everything is a complete failure. THAT is why I love being a Zips fan.
  11. To those of you who refuse to have faith in the student section growing to fill those sections, I have this to say:When the Info opens next year and we get students to mostly fill the bleacher stands, I will be laughing at every one of you who thought it wasn't possible. If you don't have faith in something happening, then it'll never happen. Do you honestly think the average student on or near campus is going to pass up a FREE D1-A college football game in a BEAUTIFUL new stadium that blows any other stadium in the area out of the water? The ROWDIES started as a 50-person group, We're now at over 1200 and if every one shows up, we can fill one side of the JAR alone. Have some damn faith in the school and its students
  12. Yes, you are correct.Thats the latest seating diagram for the Info via GoZips.comI can understand what you say about that being a lot of space for students, but what you have to remember is this stadium is going to be within WALKING distance of nearly all students. All those who live on campus will be able to walk to the stadium, PLUS all those who live south of campus in their own house can walk. Throw in the fact that the University will set up some gameday roo express routes to make it easier for those who live a little further away to get to the game without having to drive or walk, and you'd be surprised how many students we get to come to the game.I dont see us filling up the south endzone berm this year... at all. Thats all overflow student seating. The main student sections will be, like you mentioned, the southern parts of the stadium. Keep in mind that the band will take up nearly an entire section themselves and probably will be sitting in the east stands so that they're facing the main home crowd. It's doable. If you build it, they will come.
  13. In regards to Gallucci being taken down and replaced with a new dorm... I have heard rumors about that, but I have yet to hear anything official as to whether or not that will actually happen any time soon. Gallucci is obviously the most run-down of the dorms currently avaialble (I would never want to live in there), so it makes logical sense they'd look to rebuild it, but the problem there is the same we are facing right now: tear down old dorms to make way for new ones leaves a shortage for room while the new ones are being built. Now, the problem we are in now is going to be more prolonged because of a certain person holding out to leave their business thats in the footprint of the new dorms, but regardless, the university needs to get those new dorms up ASAP to alleviate this problem and help them expand.
  14. First off... You are right in your assumption that the new dorms will house more kids than the current Exchange Street Dorms do. This is mainly because the complex will be nearly twice as big.As for the whole "only 150 students" thing... im not too sure about that. I know for a fact there is a huge shortage of housing here at Akron right now mainly because of the old dorms that were torn down to make way for the new stadium. I have a feeling that your numbers are off... completely. At the beginning of this semester, the University offered $1000 + refund of entire room and board to the first 100 students that would move out of their dorm and off-campus. So... I dont know. Last I recalled, enrollement was up like 3-5% this year for the freshman class or something around there...all I know is that those kids who get to live in those dorms are going to be some lucky people...
  15. 15 minutes is pretty harsh. Thats 2/3 of a half. 5 minutes is about the max, I'd say.
  16. Its sad that the game had to come to an end, but considering the circumstances around the entire game, perhaps its demise worked out to be a blessing for the University. Yes, filling the stadium with 30k is really nice to do, but when UA can't come away with a profit and all other home games have attendances of nearly 1/6th of that number, it's just not worth it. Then take into consideration how they wanted to replace the wagon wheel with a stupid paper bag, and now you have an outrageous move by a business who has no interest in the tradition of a great rivalry and is only out to rip two universities off. I will much rather take consistent crowds without all the "hoopla"
  17. As a proud AK-Rowdies member, I take pride in the fact that we have a reputation for being annoying. As the back of our TShirts said last year.. Id much rather be known for being a bunch of @$$holes than being a bunch of pansies
  18. Is it anymore frustrating to think if we had continued the way we were going against Can't that we would be out of it?Yeah we lost to BG, that's just the way the chips fall, it sucks. But we still have the chance, that doesn't happen that often. So forget about the BG loss, there's nothing the team can do about it, and think positive about the fact that if we can win out we can roll into a bowl game and a MAC championship.exactly what i was going to say. The way I see it, this break offers us a chance to go into our final 4 games with a lot of energy. We should forget about every other game thus far and see these last 4 as a whole new season. Hell, we could even think of them as our playoffs and that to reach our goal of a bowl game, we need to win every game. Yes, those expectations are high, but if we want to secure our spot in the MAC championship and have a fighting chance against the west champ (more than likely Ballsack State) we need win out. Just my $.02
  19. Changing head coaches is far more dramatic than changing coordinators/assistants.
  20. The officiating was a complete joke. For a while, I thought that Michigan was being much more physical with us than any other team, but I soon realized that they were just getting away with a lot of crap. I am new to soccer, and even I was amazed at the blatant disregard for the obvious. For example... second half, Michigan recovered the ball down by the rowdies. The player ran out of bounds, WITH THE BALL, and just kept going and the refs didn't do a thing. The ref wasn't that far away and he just kinda looked away. Totally pathetic and classless. I wonder if this is how things go with those big name D1 schools... always getting treated like princes and given every opportunity possible to win a game they shouldn't.I am glad Akron won anyways, persevering through all the bullcrap. It goes to show the strength and determination of our guys to win under any circumstances.
  21. This is a little irrelevent, but im not going to start a new topic over it...I cannot begin to understand why they did the topping-off ceremony now when the other half of the press tower isnt even completed, let alone that beam they marked as the "highest beam" isnt even the highest one? The beams for the elevator shaft are much higher..The other thing I noticed... the beam the execs were signing seemed awfully white compared to what I saw last Thursday...just some thoughts...
  22. What I have always wondered about our uniforms is why the A-Roo logo on the helmet is backwards on the player's left side. Why not just put the same sticker on both sides so that the logo is consistent with our Athletic A-Roo logo. Always been a major issue to me.
  23. I like that... perhaps us AK-Rowdies will make a sign like that for this years games?
