By far the best game I have been to at the bowl in the 2 years ive been a student here. i know ive missed a lot of games. I got there extra early to make sure I could be in the front row of the student section and I did everything I could to get every student there going. I left it all there. Like those have said... the fat lady has sung, but the old lad still had a lot of magic left in her. Here's to you, ol rubber bowl. Youve been good to us.BTW, the closing ceremonies were very very well done, if you ask me. Here's to 2009 and the beginning of a new era in Zips football

I honestly think it was more of a play off of the old $1 tickets for the Acme Zip game... kinda like paying homage to the glory days of the rubber bowl.
-
I could have sworn the other day I saw an online image of that voucher to get $1 tickets. My fam wants to get some of them, but I cant find them anywhere and they don't live in akron, so they cant stop by Ritzman Pharmacy to get any... can anyone help me out?***EDIT***Nevermind.. found it then read the fine print.

They had the card readers there because the last 2 games are part of the residence hall challenge. They needed to swipe cards so they can get an official count of how many students came to the game and from what residence hall.Normally, you just walk in, show your id to someone standing there, and continue on your merry way. -
i've been inspecting them the past few games, though ive been extremely intoxicated while doing so, it seems that they would be a pretty tough job to get out. Id rather take a few section signs in the aisles and maybe a roo zoo sign if there is still one upA couple of students already stole the sign last week. Watched them walk right out with it.

You, sir, are correct, but barely. Michigan DID in fact form the script Ohio first, but they did it via a formation, not by marching. See below:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Script_Ohio#Script_Ohio

They took down and removed the large red crane last night. I guess they won't be needing to do any more large-scale lifting...
-
What Ive never understood about our band is why our drum major goes running around the field at halftime without his cap on just tossing his baton (pardon me if thats not the correct term) around. It just seems so out of place and less than professional....In regards to the actual script... I think they could bring it back if they cleaned up the script. the Z is nearly indistinguishable. A normal Z leading into a script I, P, and S would look much better, IMO

Yup...I dont see why a mascot has to look fierce or menacing. I know many of you dont like to make this comparison, but look at Brutus Buckeye. He doesn't look fierce or anything... who cares? If you are referring to the Golden Flush's rat with wings, that thing is far from anything like you are asking, let alone the fact that any reference to that is just wrong

Man... some people are really getting their panties in a bunch over this. Its a promotion... deal with it. Why can't we just rejoice in the fact that we are moving to a beautiful new stadium and that the University is doing everything they can to send the Bowl out with a bang.
-
Because you can? It's the last game in the rubber bowl and that makes the game a little more special. Hell, they are even promoting a post-game fireworks display to close the stadium. Where else can you go to see a football game that is going to be on semi-national TV, see two teams go at it for probably the MAC East title, and then get treated to a full-scale fireworks display FOR A DOLLAR?Idunno about you, but being its the last game in the Bowl, I could care less what kind of promotion the University does. I am going to be there all game cheering the zips on regardless of their record and if they are in contention for the MACC. Poeple who aren't as familiar with the zips will have an opportunity to see the zips cheap and in today's economy, who doesn't want to go do something and not pay a whole lot for it?

Such as their "winning" tradition

I get the feeling that the phramacy is covering some of the tickets, but not all of it. Obviously the U plans on taking a hit in ticket prices, but if they get a large attendance since its the last game, the lowered ticket prices and the larger attendance would probably offset so that the U would see the same profits as an average game at the Bowl. Then again, I am just talking out my butt...It does go along with the theme of "turn-back-the-clock" though...

Teams we want to win (and lose) this weekend
tbozeglav replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
Although... if Indiana were to lose to a MAC team, it would make that home opener next year that much better because we'd know we have that much more of a chance against not only a BCS team, but a Big10 team. Not that I am the type to wish for people to fail, but doing so would even the odds for us next year. -
Exactly. Moving down would hurt the better teams in the conference while marginally helping those bad teams. Take ball state, for example. They are RANKED in the BCS standings. Granted they didn't have to go through the Gauntlet known as the Big10, they still are undefeated and have done so in convincing manner. To force them to drop to 1-AA would be beyond a slap in the face. I dont see this ever happening, but if the question was raised, that's cause for concern.
-
Agreed... 100%Obviously the University's goal is to continually improve. Any university that doesn't is never going to succeed. I firmly believe that whether or not we get the opportunity to switch to the Big East is based solely on whether or not that conference decides to add 2 more teams to create 2 conference dvisions and and a conference championship. Obviously we are a school that has the facilities and the team to compete in the Big East and there is a GREAT potential for a large fanbase given our proximity to the Cleveland area. The University has pretty much done everything they can to build a great resume for prospective conferences. Its now all in the hands of any other conference that would want to add us.
-
I am not intentionally trying to "stir the pot" or anything, but in regards to your statement how the question was brought up about dropping down to 1-AA... IF that were to happen, and I put total emphasis on the "if" and the probability it wouldn't ever happen, I would vote that Akron go independant again. By no means are we 1-AA quality. We are just a Mid-Major D-1 school. Unless they have a legitmate reason to drop down a division, I would cease all support of their athletics if they did that. That is all of my rant. Carry on..

anyone else see that? that was our chance at a first place seed slowly drifting away....
-
Okay... i figured that... just never had heard the term before
