A few years ago I thought the transfer portal was going to be the end of really good mid-major programs. Yeah I took some crap over that but in all honesty I had no idea just how bad it was going to be or how far behind Akron is. We still can’t sell football in this region I call “football heaven” where high school programs draw bigger crowds than some D1 colleges. Taking some (or all) MAC programs to FCS is an idea, but then we lose the pay day games. There’s no easy answers… My first college football game was at the Rubber Bowl against Austin Peay. That feels like 100 years ago…

TBH during that brief period of time the football program was winning games and going bowling, they WERE the toast of the town. For a moment.

I went to Akron as a non-traditional student, and it was the best move I made (other than marrying Mrs. Spin). When I walked into my first RN position my salary doubled over what I made in EMS.

The biggest thing I’ve seen so far is this team couldn’t tackle one of us.

I really liked the guy, he was very friendly. I bet he was a great fundraiser judging how he talked to people. An awesome big time high school coach/recruiter, a lot of us thought he could translate that to college football. He was a very nice man. Maybe too nice to be involved with big time college ball. Maybe that’s been Akrons problem, hiring great guys who aren’t ultra seedy recruiters. Rest In Peace Coach

The way I look at it is this is year 3 for JoMo. His early HS recruits are now Juniors and we're 1-5 (0-2). Is there any indication that they will become competitive before next season starts? Are his transfers paying off? Is there an NIL budget? We're at the point where even a mediocre season next year would be a huge improvement.
