Terry Pluto just posted this on Facebook: "I'm working on a column on Akron football...Tressel is not nor was he ever in the mix. Until the final NCAA penalties come down, he can't even be considered for a job"
-
Treadwell: "It's really crazy how the Media puts a spin on things to make you look like a bad guy."
-
Last time, we took some old coach's (Barry Alvarez) recommendation over having a legitimate coaching search. Look where that got us. Are we going to listen to Tressel just because of who he used to be? You're right, we should ignore the advice of a national championship-winning coach and go with who TW thinks is best. That worked out SO well last time.

Football Scoop has a Twitter account (@footballscoop). I suggest everyone with a Twitter ask them for a follow-up on our head coaching search...I just did.

Gotta love the guy bashing people citing personal sources following it up with...personal sources.
-
So sources who are in the know wouldn't leak info, but people close to Tressel would? Makes sense...

I think a lot of people felt good going into today. I woke up to the Sentinel article and started believing even more. Then came the "Tressel is on campus" stuff, and it got very real. When the "on campus" story turned out to be a lie, and was immediately followed by the Repository article, it was a bit of a buzzkill. Honestly, I'm where I was when this all started - I still believe there's a chance but won't get my hopes up either. It will be interesting to see what tomorrow brings.

For what it's worth, Ian and I have talked and I can tell you all that he owns up to his mistake and truly feels sorry for creating the madness this afternoon. I don't know him personally, but by all accounts he's a huge Zips fan and supporter and just didn't think this through. I think we all had one (or one hundred lol) of these moments as college students...let's give him a break and move forward ZN.
-
Sorry, not going to feel bad for the guy. He created the rumor then sat back and laughed at all of the Zips fans who believed him. As a former sports team member at WZIP, I'm embarrassed that someone who is not only a member but a DIRECTOR would do this. You ARE a member of the media, act like it.
-
I don't know you, but I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt here and assume you just didn't think this through before you did it. You need to remember that college radio broadcasters - even from WZIP - lack credibility to start with for most people. Pulling a stunt like this doesn't help that. You have essentially lied to your audience, only to sit back and laugh at them when they react to your "news". The next time you report something, they will remember this. Your credibility is gone now, and that's something that will be difficult to build back up. I love WZIP and the Sports team...I'd like to think I played a large role in the accomplishments of that team over the past decade. It pains me to see someone damage its image and credibility - even temporarily. An apology might be in order but if not, at least learn from this moving forward. You are not only representing yourself, you're representing the team, WZIP, and UA. Never forget that.
-
While the latest reports aren't promising, I'm still holding out some hope. Urban Meyer said he wasn't going to OSU numerous times...you never know.
-
Hey now, don't judge WZIP by one irresponsible person's actions.
-
The rumor about Tressel being on campus is 100% true, which I find interesting that he is reporting otherwise. Hopefully we find out everything tomorrow. "University of Akron official" is so vague, and Jackson isn't very connected. Hard telling. We'll know the truth soon I guess, one way or another.

Personally, I think Zeke needs to stop focussing so much on blocking shots. It's cool and all when he gets a block, but generally it simply gets him out of good defensive positioning. I wish Zeke would quit jumping & leaving his feet in order to block shots, keep his feet on the ground & just extend his arms to alter shots. That's sufficient. That way he'd also keep his positioning for rebounding. For 7'0" he doesn't get enough rebounds. I think it's directly attributable to his shot-block fixation. Couldn't agree more...when a 7'0" with his athleticism is only gettin4 rebounds per game, something isn't right. Is it me or is the refs one sided in this game? We lost the Valpo game because of the refs. We have nobody to blame but ourselves tonight.

He sat in the student section Saturday and went back to the locker room with the team at halftime. He should be back next game.

Your first post since February is a downer

Which is why I love this program and KD as coach.

We aren't Can't State University. If our guys fuck up, we hold them accountable. It sucks watching this, but that's on the players. I hope Abreu and Treadwell get shit from their teammates all the way home for not doing what they needed to do to be a part of the TEAM tonight. Bullshit You can't compete by looking for ways to kick guys off the team. This is a total load of crap. In the past they suspended Humpty and Brett M. Enough already. What did they do that justifies destroying the entire team? Yeah, I'm sure Dambrot was looking for a way to make Abreu and Treadwell ineligible for tonight. Are you reading what you're writing?????? Responsibility for suspensions is on the PLAYERS, not the coaches or the athletic department.

What happened to Nik? His passion and energy has turned into whining and pouting. What happened to the kid who would run through a wall to get a rebound or a loose ball? Where did the player go who provided so much on-court energy? When he decided to come back, I looked at him as the missing piece. Right now, that feels pretty silly.

Just sloppy all around. What a disappointment. I was encouraged by the Detroit win, but they've taken another step back tonight. This team needs someone - Diggs, Nik, Zeke - ANYONE to step up. Middle Tennessee won't be an easy victory, and CSU will very tough. We could see this team at 3-5 on December 10th.

Let's review the 15 pages with what ZN posters have attributed to various unknown sources: GoZips - Hinted that it was Tressel's job if he wanted it...also hinted that a move to the Big East could follow. Said that plans for a new arena are already underway. Bobbyake - Said that several people saw Tressel at Tommy Evans Lounge Saturday night. Also said it's Tressel's job if he wants it. Mes102 - Said that if Tressel does come to Akron, a coach who we have previously mentioned would come with him. ZachTheZip - Said the players were having a meeting tonight and would be informed of who the new coach will be...said it would be announced today or tomorrow. Also said that some of the media knows about our new coach, but is holding off on reporting it at this time. RootForRoo44 - Said the aforementioned meeting was described as "run of the mill" by several football players, and that no coach was named. Also said that he personally saw Tressel at the JAR Saturday. And of course, footballscoop.com had the original report that Akron was targeting Tressel.

This is off topic, but the kid in the speedo is an embarrassment. Please, someone, tell him to stop.

http://news-herald.com/articles/2011/11/27...s/nh4794124.txt After two straight 1-11 seasons at the University of Akron, Rob Ianello is out as the school's football coach. Ianello's successor is anyone's guess, but rumors are surfacing that Akron is targeting Jim Tressel. The website www.FootballScoop.com reported the news on Tuesday. Reportedly, Tressel was seen on the Akron campus this week, and he was a spectator at the Zips' men's basketball game on Saturday. The Tressel-to-Akron rumor is also gaining steam on Facebook. A page called "We want Jim Tressel for Akron Zips football" was recently created. Since resigning as OSU coach on Memorial Day amid an NCAA scandal, Tressel hasn't said much about returning to the college sidelines. His brother, Dick, currently OSU's running backs coach, said this season he believes his brother will coach again. There is one big stumbling block, however. The NCAA has yet to rule on the OSU scandal, but it appears likely Tressel will be hit with a show-cause penalty, meaning the sanctions levied against the coach will follow him to his next coaching stop. If the school wishes to avoid the NCAA penalties, it must appear before the NCAA and "show cause" as to why it should not be penalized for hiring him. The Tressel-Akron connection is interesting. Tressel earned his master's degree in education from the school in the 1970s and was a graduate assistant there, coaching the quarterbacks, receivers and running backs. The facilities at Akron are considered one of the Mid-American Conference's best. InfoCision Stadium is two years old and top-notch, but attendance for football games has been a problem. That is understandable for a team that is 2-22 the last two seasons. Tressel would provide Akron's football program a big-time boost, but the trail of the NCAA scandal will be equally as big. We here at After The Tailgate give this the longest of long shots of it ever happening.
