  1. I think by the end of next week.
  2. My candidates: Alex Abreu - The suspension hurts his case, but hopefully he learns from it. He's fearless, is a natural floor general, and seems to want to be involved in key situations. Chauncey Gilliam - He hasn't broken out yet, but I think he will. Very intelligent and plays with a chip on his shoulder. He always seems to give 100%. Nick Harney - I know. He's young, he's raw, and for a long time, we worried about him even staying eligible...but watch him out there. He listens intently in every huddle...he accepts KD's coaching and rarely repeats mistakes...he plays aggressive (too aggressive right now), and plays with a quiet confidence. His potential is incredible.
  3. Who has a link to the gametracker? Can't watch streaming video right now.
  4. Great post JZ84. I'd just like to focus on this little bit. We have learned in the past year that Tressel was a fake and fraud as it relates to his campaign to be the most honorable person in America. He can't afford to come to Akron and be exposed as a fake and fraud as a coach. He'll never take the chance. Tressel won a boatload of games at OSU with three MAC schools per year and a cake Big Ten schedule. He routinely got his butt kicked against OOC BCS teams. There is no scheduling to hide behind at Akron. He can't take the risk of being exposed. One thing Tressel isn't is a risk taker and Akron is a huge risk for him. I've never said that Tressel couldn't win at Akron. There just isn't any evidence to show he can win without breaking NCAA rules. I don't want to risk him not being able to win without breaking rules at Akron. If he doesn't break rules and loses, we are screwed. If he breaks rules, wins and gets caught, we are screwed. If he doesn't break rules and wins, which there is no proof of, we win. We have a 2 in 3 chance of losing with this guy. No thanks. People need to think with their heads and not with their hearts. This is a fair post. And the negatives don't end there. We know Tressel won boatloads of games at OSWho by scheduling inferior competition in the OOC games, and got a handful of cupcake games on top of that from the bad teams in the weak Big 11 conference. Against Top-ranked teams, he failed miserably. Against the Top conference in the country, he failed miserably. However, many people think that OSWho has the best talent in the country, right? So, I have to ask...how many inferior teams can we put on our schedule? Not many, since nearly every team in D-1A is better than us right now, And...how can anyone make the assumption that good players want to play for Tressel, and not that they just simply wanted to play at OSWho? How many kids on Solich's roster at OU are anywhere near high level talent? Plus, the nicely-pressed sweater vest won't look the same to kids in different colors, especially with the recent massive hit to his credibility and honesty. I just think there's some assumptions here that really need some further thought. First, lets look at his history against ranked teams: 2001 - Defeated #14 Northwestern, #11 Michigan...Lost to #14 UCLA, #12 Illinois, #14 South Carolina 2002 - Defeated #10 Washington State, #17 Penn State, #19 Minnesota, #12 Michigan, #1 Miami 2003 - Defeated #17 Washington, #9 Iowa, #24 NC State, #14 Michigan State, #11 Purdue, #8 Kansas State...Lost to #5 Michigan, #23 Wisconsin 2004 - Defeated #7 Michigan...Lost to #15 Wisconsin 2005 - Defeated #21 Iowa, #17 Michigan State, #22 Minnesota, #17 Michigan, #6 Notre Dame....Lost to #2 Texas, #18 Penn State 2006 - Defeated #2 Texas, #13 Iowa, #2 Michigan...Lost to #2 Florida 2007 - Defeated #20 Purdue, #25 Penn State, #19 Wisconsin, #23 Michigan...Lost to #2 LSU 2008 - Defeated #18 Wisconsin, #20 Michigan State...Lost to #1 USC, #3 Penn State, #3 Texas 2009 - Defeated #11 Penn State, #15 Iowa, #7 Oregon...Lost to #3 USC 2010 - Defeated #12 Miami, #21 Iowa, #8 Arkansas...Lost to #18 Wisconsin By my count: 34-15 vs Top 25 10-8 vs non-Big Ten Top 25 1) A ranked team is a top team, regardless of what conference they play in, and I don't think 10-8 is "failing miserably". 2) Nobody outside of Columbus thinks Ohio State has or has ever had the best overall talent in the country, even in their best years. 3) If his biggest on-field issue is not being able to beat Top 3 SEC schools, I think we'll be OK. Great! I knew some buckeye honk would post the tosu wins over second tier BCS schools and big ten schools ranked #15-25. THese schools were only ranked this high because they beat up on the MAC and started 4-0 or 5-1. This was a great thread until DFG had to post yet another meaningless thread just to clog up ZNO. Get a job, go volunteer or start your own Zips board. Just stop posting. Gotta love it...I post those pesky "facts" and get called a "Buckeye Honk" in response...classic! I'm out for the night folks...I can't take this level of ignorance. LET'S GO ZIPS SOCCER!
  5. Sometimes, Zips Nation, you amaze me. There is a coach with the following resume available: - Career coaching record of 364-136-4 - 4 NCAA 1-AA National Championships - 1 NCAA 1-A National Championship - 3 NCAA 1-A National Championship Appearances - University of Akron graduate (Masters in Education) - Known as a great coach and recruiter - Knows Northeast Ohio well And some of you basically respond with "Ehhhhhh...I don't know" I know some of you hate Ohio State. I also know that some of you hate Jim Tressel. I can respect that you hold those opinions. What I can't understand is how anyone would be against this hire. As GP1 ironically said...think with your heads, not your hearts.

C'mon now Keener, let's be serious. Sure, he said the opposite in the previous sentence, but claiming a coach can't win without cheating is claiming a coach can't win.
  7. I just went back through this entire thread and there is not one hint of anyone suggesting Tressel couldn't win at Akron. Not one person said "don't hire Tressel". What on earth are you taking umbrage with? Did you skip over GP1's posts?

  10. Completely false. When the recruits are told they are going to Akron and not tosu, after one year it will be back to business (recruiting) as usual. I agree with Zips Win! People have short memories...especially young people. Lots of no name coaches have done well in the MAC and have done a great job of recruiting. Toledo Tom was a great MAC coach and spent almost his entire career at Toledo. He did just fine without the OSU name behind him. Solich is doing just fine without the OSU name behind him. Hoepner (sp?) did great at Miami without the OSU name behind him. English is doing fine at EMU without the OSU name behind. Cubit has done fine at WMU without the OSU name behind him. The previous coach at Miamioh won the MAC in two years and didn't have the OSU name behind him. This illusion that Tressel will come to Akron and win off of his past is fantasy. If Tressel came to Akron, his ability to win or lose will depend on how well he does at Akron, not how well he did at OSU. If OSU gets back to being a top level Big Ten team next year, everyone around Ohio will be saying, "Jim who?". Again, nobody is saying he will win on his name alone. He is a great coach. Great coaching = winning. Winning = better recruits.
  11. How many goosebumps will you have if we lose to two bcs teams next year and our ooc foe, in say the first three weeks of the season next year? Short term, Faust sold tickets for UofA. Short term, Tressel will sell tickets. Long term? How fast will people turn on Tressel if the team goes 3-9 next year? Gerry Faust isn't even in the same league as Jim Tressel as a coach. Faust Notre Dame: 30-26-1 Akron: 73-79-4 Career: 103-105-5 Tressel Youngstown State: 135-57-2 Ohio State: 229-79-2 Career: 364-136-4; 4 NCAA 1-AA National Championships, 1 NCAA 1-A National Championship Tressel isn't just a big name...he's one of the best coaches and recruiters in the country. It was a comment about the fans of NE Ohio, not coaching ability. The fans in NE Ohio support a winner. Jim Tressel is an established winner. Gerry Faust was not.

Short term, Tressel will sell tickets. Long term? How fast will people turn on Tressel if the team goes 3-9 next year? I would still support him. 3-9 is a definite improvement over 1-11 and 0-11. And I would expect an improvement in the number of wins in subsequent seasons as well. The losses would be a short term problem. High school kids in Ohio will beat down the doors to play for Tressel no matter where he goes. Akron would probably get every 2nd level Ohio player that didnt verbal to OSU or maybe Michigan. +1000000
  14. Terry Pluto wrote about the Zips again this morning and a few quotes stood out to me. The Zips are 3-2 after Saturday's victory over Detroit. Coach Keith Dambrot said "reality returned" after the team pulled a 68-58 upset at Mississippi State. The Zips lost the next two games to Valparaiso (62-59) and Duquesne (81-76). They had leads in both games, but Dambrot talked about a lack of leadership and iffy point guard play in the losses. Sophomore point guard Alex Abreu has had some injury issues, and was suspended for "a violation of team rules." That has Quincy Diggs -- a natural small forward -- handling the point. Diggs leads the team with a 12-point scoring average and is shooting 51 percent, but running an offense is new to him. The backup point guard is Brian Walsh, but the transfer from Xavier is battling hip injuries. "Right now, he's not moving well enough to play point," said Dambrot. "We are headed into a rough 3-4 week stretch as we figure some things out. It may look like we are taking a step back, but I think it will help in the long run." Dambrot praised the talent of Benedictine product Nick Harney (9.5 points, 53 percent shooting) and Euclid's Demetrius Treadwell (8.3 points), but said both first year players "just need to learn to practice harder." Treadwell is 18-of-25 from the field, but 3-of-12 at the foul line. "It's not just them," said Dambrot. "Overall, our entire team doesn't practice at a championship level." The Zips have two seniors -- Nikola Cvetinovic and Brett McClanahan -- have "been inconsistent" according Dambrot. He talked about the need for his seniors to "step up." He also said the Zips history has sometimes been rocky starts and strong finishes, "so we've been through this before." I know this is how Dambrot works - he offers pointed remarks throughout the season to push his players. Even so, leadership was one of my main concerns coming into this season. Darryl Roberts and Steve McNees were outstanding leaders both on and off the court...especially Roberts, who I viewed as an "on-court coach". Brett McClanahan doesn't seem to have a "take charge" personality, while Nik Cvetinovic seems too emotional/immature to become the team's leader. I've seen him arguing and talking back to Dambrot quite a bit this season, which obviously isn't what you want to see from a senior. The lack of leadership may not be a problem now, but it will be in both the MAC and NCAA Tournaments. Who will step up to lead this team when it matters most?
  15. it was an hour before the game. Still...it seems like we have some well-connected people in here, and nobody physically saw him?
  16. Who is able to enter Tommy Evans Lounge? There are two things that make me raise an eyebrow: How did Tressel make it in and out of the JAR while also hanging out in Tommy Evans Lounge without anyone here physically seeing him? And how did he do the same without any media types seeing him an making note?
  17. Bobby - Are you saying that a person you know personally (and know well) saw Jim Tressel at TEL last night?
  18. Does anyone know the history of footballscoop's accuracy?
  19. FWIW, Terry Pluto just put his support behind Winters on Twitter.
  20. He's the Director of Communications for the MAC...good source IMO. Andy Baskin and Zach Jackson both just reported the same thing...not sure if they are basing it off of Guy's Tweet though.
  21. Jeremy Guy (MAC Director of Communications) reporting Ianello is GONE. https://twitter.com/JGuyMAC
  22. The biggest impact is, if he is still out, it hurts our chances of taking down West Virginia. It will also affect the Cleveland State game if this is an extended suspension. Aside from that, I think the Zips can still handle their upcoming schedule.
  23. The silver lining - I appreciate, as I did last year with McKnight, that our program does not ignore off-the-court issues. I never want us to become Can't in that aspect.
  24. Simple but spot on. The Tressel haters would get over it quickly...trust me. Winning eliminates the hate.
