Here's what I know: - Jim Tressel was not at the JAR, as some previously stated. - Jim Tressel was never officially offered the UA coaching position. - TW said this: “While Coach Tressel has shared with us that he is not interested in coaching at Akron, he has graciously volunteered to help his alma mater however he can during the search for our next football coach." I wish like hell Tressel would be the next football coach at UA, but unfortunately, it's just not happening.

I don't think he was joking...

The facilities were never going to get recruits here alone. Who ever claimed that? What the facilities do is act as a "tiebreaker" in recruiting. Let me explain. Let's say Akron's new coach builds the program up to the point that it's level with most of the rest of the MAC. Now let's say that Toledo, Akron, Can't, and Ohio are all going after the same recruit, and the recruit views all four evenly as programs. This is where the "tiebreaker" comes in - when everything football-related is equal, or even close to equal, the facilities can and will give Akron the edge over another program. The facilities will certainly help. What they won't do is get recruits on their own. We could put the Dallas Cowboys' new stadium in downtown Akron and recruits still aren't going to come to a program that's 2-22 over the past two seasons an d trending downward. Anyone who thought otherwise never really understood what kind of advantage the facilities bring.

Given the following: 1) MAC games are the most important. The first MAC game is 26 days from Monday. 2) The most important (and most difficult) non-conference games are VCU and Marshall. They are 17 and 20 days away respectively. 3) The APB, FAM, NCA, and YSU games are the easiest games remaining on the schedule. 4) The chances for an at-large bid this season are gone, and the only path to the NCAA Tournament is winning the MAC Championship. 5) With the new seeding system, being one of the top two teams in the MAC provides an incredible advantage. It only makes sense to have the surgery performed Monday. If AK71's prognosis is correct, Abreu would have a shot at returning in time for the VCU/Marshall games, and would have plenty of time to recover for MAC play...which, again, is all that matters.

Would you want really want him to agree with you that there's no pride/leadership? And how exactly does a member of their staff defending their players mean that this team is in big trouble? C'mon now...listen - go here (http://zipsnation.org/forums//index.php?showtopic=24982), take a few deep breaths, and relax. No, my biggest issue is that this defense of the team was the biggest showing of team pride that i've seen all year....and it came from a grad assistant. And disagreeing is one thing, writing an essay on why i'm an asshole is ridiculous. I just think it's a good example of where this team is as a unit. Someone needs to man up and take responsibility. And trust me, i'm very calm and relaxed. I have plenty of faith in Keith Dambrot getting these guys ready eventually. Problem is, if we keep tanking it and don't figure it out sooner rather than later, we can say 'bye-bye' to the first round bye in the MAC tourney. I know I know, "we've been in this situation before"...not exactly. This team is different from the other early season slumps. These guys are losing the ENTIRE game, not just for stretches of each game. They are being out-hustled and out-played by teams on equal or lower talent levels. I can handle a team losing with some effort, i can't respect a team that goes down with a whimper and beats themselves. I already had to watch a team this fall do that for 12 games. We haven't started MAC play and you're worried about losing a 1st round bye? It's a marathon, not a sprint. If they start playing .500 ball within the conference, I'll start worrying with you. Until then, I think you're overreacting.

Whoops...just realized I put RPI instead of SOS, which those ranks are. The point remains though!

I agree with you on this about seeing more of Gilliam. He's getting very frustrated and finding it hard putting on a zips uniform. He feels starting to feel less than a significant player. This is bad news. Gilliam looks like he's got as much scoring potential as anyone on our roster, but confidence is so important & I wouldn't want Gilliam to begin to doubt himself. No good playing tight. Confidence is one thing which he doesn't lack in most cases (he lives for the big game). He can change games but is not getting the opportunity to prove himself. He likes high pressure games and he want to win at all costs. There is one thing he's having a hard time understanding along with me and that is trying to understand what is called "Akron Basketball". Let the best players play regardless of transfer, freshman, walk on, etc. This is a different team who is very athletic with plenty of ego. Let them let it loose on the court... He always looks ready to go...I thought before the season and still think he'd be an important part of this team. Maybe he'll get some PT during the stretch of home games in December and get his chance.

1) This Team Wasn't Expected to Be Good at First Forget Mississippi State for a minute...there's a reason why the coaching staff picked this summer for their "International" trip. Let's break the team down: Marshall - Returning starter Cvetinovic - Returning starter Diggs - Returning rotation player (16 to 29 MPG) McClanahan - Returning starter Abreu - Returning rotation player (19 to 24 MPG) Harney - First year Treadwell - First year Walsh - First year transfer Gilliam - First year transfer Ibitayo - First year Egner - Returning player, first year rotation player Of the eleven Zips in the 2011-2012 rotation, only five of them played regular minutes last season. Five of them did not play college basketball last season. Three of them have never played college basketball before. The coaching staff knew there would be some growing pains early on. They expected the "freshman" mistakes. They knew it would take time for the team to gel. 2) The Road Has Been Difficult The Zips have played six regular season games against D1 opponents. So far, all but one of them have come on the road. Mississippi State - 8-1 (#24 in the country) Valparaiso - 6-2 Duquesne - 6-2 Detroit - 3-6 West Virginia - 4-2 Middle Tennessee - 8-1 That's a combined 35-8...all but one on the road. In the MAC, they are currently 3rd in SOS. WMU - 23rd Ohio - 68th Akron - 70th NIU - 73rd Miami - 80th CMU - 213th Can't - 233rd Buffalo - 241st Ball St. - 254th EMU - 269th BG - 285th Toledo - 321st I know, I know. We want to take that next step...we want to beat the best of the best. Simply put, it just wasn't realistic this early in the season for this particular group. If all goes well, that will be next season 3) Keith Dambrot and This Program Have Been Here Before Last year's Zips were 4-4 around this time last year. We all remember how the season ended. This isn't the football program...I have full confidence in Keith Dambrot. We've had six straight 20+ win seasons. We've reached the MAC Championship game in each of the last five seasons. We've won it two of the last three years. We all know the statistics...but I think it's important sometimes to remember them. I'm sure some of you will say I'm making excuses. I'm sure some will bash me for my optimism. I get it - watching them today, I found myself worrying that this team doesn't have what it takes to win the MAC this year. However, after a few hours passed and my emotions were removed from my assessment, I remembered thinking the same thing last season. We have an outstanding basketball program. We have an outstanding coaching staff. We have incredible, albeit inexperienced talent...the Mississippi State game showed us what this team is capable of. This won't be the last of the growing pains. I expect a loss at Cleveland State, and for us to trip up a few times in the MAC. However, I also expect to at Quicken Loans Arena on March 10th, decked out in Akron gear, ready to watch the Zips compete in their 6th straight conference final...and I expect to be celebrating at the final buzzer once again.

I'd shake up the starting lineup - Marshall, Cvetinovic, Harney, Diggs, Abreu. I'd also like to see more of Gilliam - seems like he could be an important scorer for this team off of the bench.

2011-2012 - 12 Team Assists Per Game 2010-2011 - 14 Team Assists Per Game Not a huge difference from last year.

+1. It never happened.

It was a freaking bar fight. There will be little or no LEGAL consequences. He probably only got arrested because he didn't co-operate with the cops. Hopefully, the Judge is a Zip alum. The school will spank him, but really the biggest question is what was he doing out at 2AM before a game? He has to stop that behavior at once. But please, this was NOT a rape or robbery or child molestation. It was just a bar fight. You sure are blase about a potentially bad situation. People have died in bar fights. Treadwell has a four count charge and is out of jail on bond. No judge is going to turn a blind eye to a powerfully built man of six-seven pounding his fists on a smaller man. Public intoxication and underage intoxication are also charges. With good lawyering and some breaks Tree is looking at a fine, probable community service and a cost of several thousand dollars which he is not likely to have. Let us hope for the best and not turn a blind eye. This is not a pretty situation. Please get your facts straight. Treadwell was out after the Saturday night game. Like you stated; he has no business being out at that hour of the night. He was also charged with resisting arrest. Cops take a really dim view of judges who do not punish people for this offense. Dim like opposing them at their next election. There is nothing cute, funny of small about this situation. IT must be handled carefully or we could well lose this young man. The objective is to get him on the right path and permanently away from the influences that had him out partying at two AM. Of course, this didn't even happen...you're telling me Treadwell AND another guy were hitting him...and he wasn't injured at all? C'mon now... No injuries?? Is that really important?? It is a character issue. And really....do we really want someone who is punching someone repeatedly and causes ZERO damage to be pounding away under the basket in MAC games??? That would be saying he is a weakling. More likely the DJ is a Zip fan and does not want to see Tree go down hard. But whether or not he has injuries is not really important. Um, yeah, it is...considering that's what he is mainly being charged with. If he didn't really harm the DJ in any way (which he didn't), doesn't that affect the allegation that he assaulted him? As for the DJ being a Zip fan and lying, that's a bit far-fetched, don't you think? I love the Zips, but I'm not sure most people in this area know who Demetrius Treadwell is, and/or would cover for him if he just kicked their ass. Again, the story doesn't add up...he messed up, but that the truth isn't nearly as bad as the ABJ made it out to be. That should be evident once the full details come out.

THAT SIR was my point. He said that if it was Egner those comments would not have been made. Classic race card. As stated above, I meant it more as judging someone based on where they are from. I mentioned Josh Egner because Green, Ohio doesn't have a bad reputation. Inner-city Cleveland does. It angers me to see assumptions made about who Treadwell hangs out with because he's from inner-city Cleveland. Nothing more, nothing less. I know GoZips isn't a racist and wasn't calling him one. Inner City = black Green Ohio = white (probably, never been there). It IS the race card. And that is my last post on the subject. Take it how you will...that's not the meaning I intended. Inner city doesn't necessarily equal black, either.

Hey, DUMMY, underage drinking and breaking team curfew do make you a bad guy. The media had nothing to do with it. You managed this screw up entirely on your own. What kind of company do you keep? Bums? Thugs? Druggies? You are STUPID. You betrayed the trust of a lot of people who had faith in you. Now clean up your act and get back to being a Zip basketball player. The rest of you, stop kissing this idiot's butt. Are you serious? Sure, I am serious. I have grown children. I know what kids do. Mine weren't perfect either. And, I do know Tree well enough to speak frankly to him. I want him to grow up and be a fine person in the community. As for kissing his butt; read the posts. All I am asking of Tree is to "man up". A member of the basketball team has zero business being in a club at two in the morning. He was suppose to be in bed in his room. He violated the coaching staff's trust. Get it? I'm sure you'd call him a dummy to his face... Listen, we're all disappointed...he screwed up and it's terrible press for the program. I don't think that gives you the right to call one of our players a "dummy" or "stupid", or to claim he's hanging out with druggies or thugs (which, by the way, I don't think you'd say if this was, say, Josh Egner.) Let's not let your emotions get the best of you here. Trust me....I have known Tree alot longer and better than you. No one needs to be in a club at 2 am including your grown kids. We all know that alcohol, late nights and crowds don't mix. But before you call someone a dummy or an idiot look in the mirror and at your own kids or family and reevaluate whether or not that is an appropriate or necessary comment for someone who claims they want him to man up and want the best for him . As far as kissing his butt there is nothing wrong with people acknowledging his god given basketball talent and abilities and the immediate impact he has made on the basketball court. There is also nothing wrong with him being held accountable for his mistakes and actions, that is why he will have his day in court to present the FACTS and witnesses to verify his story . Lastly please choose your words carefully. They have a lasting impact on those that you claim to want to be a "fine person." Get it? +1. Well said.

Let's not let your emotions get the best of you here. First, off, I think I could tell Tree that he is a "dummy". I like him like a son and he knows that I have his personal best interest at heart. I am a bit surprised how defensive and personal people are taking this. I have several concerns about Tree's actions affecting the rest of the team. By suspending Treadwell the coaches have to move Harney to the back up power forward. This moves Diggs into the three or small forward. A position a lot of you enjoy watching him play. BUT, it robs Quincey of time on the point. Quincey would love to play in the NBA. And the coaches are working to help him get there. Some one please explain to me just how Quincey makes it in the NBA as a small forward. His best shot is at the point. He has most of the tools. Right now he is short on ball handling and reading the floor. Each half he played he got better as a point guard. Certainly better enough to let him play more minutes on the point. Tree is our best person at the power forward behind Cvetinovic. He has the wonderful opportunity to play that spot for the next four years (mostly as the starter). Throwing that away is stupid. Tree is suppose to be a young man; not a small child. I hope he realizes the difference more than some of you posters do. Why couldn't you have just posted what you just wrote without insulting the kid? Again, I am as frustrated as you. He's got to learn from this. And it has certainly affected the team. I just don't think it's anyone's place to call our players "dummies", or suggest they hang with a bad crowd when they don't. If there's anything we can learn from Tressel-gate, it's to try to keep emotions from taking over and saying something we don't mean.

Why would he claim Treadwell is hanging with thugs and druggies when there is no evidence to support that and no reason to say that? Demetrius Treadwell is sometimes lazy, sometimes quits when he meets adversity, and, like most teenage boys, is still immature. He is by no means perfect. But he is not one who associates with "druggies" and "thugs", and it shouldn't be assumed that he does because he's from inner-city Cleveland.

Where's the emoticon of me throwing stones at Indians06? Dude, Tressel should be happy to get the chance to redeem himself at a MUCH smaller school/program now that he is a disgrace. I was ready to embrace him like all of us would have, but in no small measure because I assumed that UA would be a great step-down opportunity for him to redeem himself while building our program for bigger and better things while also retooling his reputation. It would have been a wonderful two-fer. You need to embrace the possibility of bigger and better. We would not have rated Tressel before he disgraced the OSucks program, but at this point he is tainted. He probably is happy and honored that Akron wants him. But he doesn't want to coach here, or anywhere else. If you really believe he is a disgrace, then why would you want that person as the head coach of your school? I wouldn't. I have more pride than that. But let's face it, he's not a disgrace. A lot of people in the state of Ohio still adore him. He wanted two things in his career. One, to be a college football head coach. YSU gave him that opportunity. And second, to be head coach at Ohio State. He turned down numerous jobs that paid millions more than YSU while he was there to wait for OSU. He turned down NFL interviews to stay at OSU. That's all he wanted. And I know first hand Tressel doesn't feel disgraced at all. He has a wonderful family who are all doing their own successful things in life. He and his wife make philanthropic donations to all sorts of causes near and dear to them. His old players love him and stick up for him. He has 5 national titles. He's seen thousands of his players and staff members go on and do great things with their life. He's happy with his life. I think we all strive to have the internal happiness that Tressel has. For you to say he's a disgrace or how dear he turn down Akron is pathetic! I can't really say I disagree with any of this. I've always respected Tressel. I still do. It would have been great to have him here but as the dust has settled, it's become clear that it was never even close to happening.

It's a wonderful social media tool if used correctly. The Cleveland Indians are a perfect example.

Your post tells me you know nothing about Demetrius Treadwell. It's disappointing to see a kid screw up. It's also disappointed to see a grown man and Zips fan call one of our players a "dummy" when they clearly don't know the kid.

Two interesting things about this story: 1) Dambrot called it a "mistake", and he's still on the team. If the story was 100% true as reported, I doubt KD's reaction would have been that way. 2) So Treadwell (at 6'7") and another person were punching the DJ in the face and body...but the DJ wasn't injured at all? Does this add up to anyone? Treadwell is guilty of putting himself in a bad situation. The rest, I'm not so sure.
