I thought some halftime adjustments were made that worked quite well. Penn State was never really able to gets its running game going. While Akron never had any success running either, in the second half the QB had more time to throw and it showed with some good completions and a TD. Obviously something was adjusted, be it blocking schemes or whatever. To me it seemed like the second half was an even match. I just wish field position could have been better and the adjustments could have been made sooner in the first half.As for throwing out of the backfield to a RB we did on the third play of our first offensive possesion. CJ over threw him by 10 yards. the ball went out of bounds. 2nd, we got out coached because their head coach has been coaching longer than ours has been alive. im pretty sure he probably knows how to coach a game better. They are in a Power/BCS conferance, which in turn means they have the funds to provide better coaching. we built a 61 million dollar football stadium, which is beautiful, but these conferances laugh at 61 mil and build 250 mil facilities. I cant understand why everyone is being so hard on this team. for some reason everyone thinks we should have actually beaten this team. PSU is a top 10 and a national championship contender. We arent and odds are we never will be. thats the reality.

24 Thoughts on a 24-point Loss
zippy_ua_00 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
they way i look at this game is, I knew we were going to lose. at no point did i say we would win. i even posted on the cbs board that we were gonna lose by 3 tds. anyway, that being said, lets look at the bright side. we beat them in the second half in points and in yardage. thats good. #2 we only lost to a national championship contender by 24 and it could have only been a 17 point loss. Past zips teams havent done that and there are MANY other teams that would have lost to PSU by a greater margin. And #3 we have some good PSU friends now that pos on here. -
time i was there i went when we lost like 70-something, i cant recall the final. anyway i had a great time minus the lion roar everytime something good, or in our case, bad happened. Unfortunatly i wont be going. i got a new job and im required to work tomorrow but i will be DVR the game. everyone that is going have fun and dont burn too many couches or overturn too many cars when the zips win

Penn State favored by 28; o/u 58.5

Lititz, the "truth" about our secondary vs. Akron passing offense will fall somewhere btwn the two extremes represented in most posts here. Yes, many of our D-backs are relatively inexperienced, and, yes, Akron's passing O is both veteran and talented. But, the Penn State D's have been facing the Penn State offense -- Clark and those big WRs -- and are some talented athletes themselves. Will Akron burn State on a play or two? I expect that to happen. Will it happen often enough to give Akron more than three scores? Not likely, imho. And note most of the posts are focusing on Akron's passing O vs the Lion secondary. All but the most fervent Zips fans concede that the Akron defense may be facing some huge challenges. But, opinions are just that -- and it's why the games get played even all these posts and writings and analyses.Just under 24 hours to go!!I think your assessment is dead on. Can't wait to hit the road in the morning and head to Happy Valley!I just wanna say to all the state fans that have been on here, its been a pleasure talking and reading your opinions and analysis on the game tomorrow. i hope you continue to come back even after the game and leave messages and talk with us. its been fun. good luck the rest of the season. -
How Do the Zips Beat Penn State?
zippy_ua_00 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
ZippyTuba11, I dub thee "Zips Zen Master" -- good summary!!i honestly think PSU will come out expecting us to throw the ball before running. i think our best first play if it is a pass is to throw deep. if not id suggest a draw or a screen to alex allen. they wouldnt be expecting either of those on the first play of the game -
WOW! really??? im in shock from reading that.

It's true. I just saw this while looking on the UB board.Linkyit will definatly be difficult for them to get back to the championship game now

ABJ: Skyway restaurant plan in holding patternSeveral months after a sign went up announcing a new Skyway Drive-In restaurant was planned for East Exchange and Spicer streets, in the shadow of a new University of Akron football stadium, no work has been done on the site. And it's not clear whether the plan will ever move forward.I dont know how many of you have been to atlanta but im froma there and they have a place that everyone goes to before ga tech games called the varsity. Its a huge hot dog and burger place where you make yourself fat before the games. if you ever get the chance to go you need to stop in there. its right by the stadium and i think we should get something like that at UA.The sign announcing the restaurant is still there. But city of Akron Planning Director John Moore said no drawings or plans for the project have been filed with the city.Steve Large, owner of Skyway, said he does not know what is going on with the site.Read the article.

The Zips are planning on using a 2-2-4, using only freshman to save the better players for the tougher games later in the year and also giving Penn State our offensive playbook (marked with which plays we're using and when we'll be using them) in order to even out the playing field and give the Nittany Lions (Latin Translation: Single Mountain Cat - loosely translated: Scared Pussy) - a chance! That's what I heard from JD also. Just because PSU is our B..tch, and basically not any real threat to us, doesn't mean we have to embarrass the Cowardly Lions (Wizard of Oz reference for you PSU readers). We're gonna save our Big Boys for when they're needed. Of course we will give them some playing time (maybe not against the Scared Pussies of Penn), just for the tune-up to the MAC Championship. Ultimately, a win against PSU will be just another win. We got bigger fish to fry.Can you say "Just Like the Rose Bowl, Close But No Cigar". The Cowardly Lions are going down, Again!!!! Seriously, im a zips fan and its getting really annoying that you are calling PENN STATE, PENN. they are 2 differant schools. STOP PLEASE

Do NOT go to Thursday's unless you are under 24 years old. Or you just want a 32-oz cup of cheap beer before the game. There is a BW-3's directly across from the stadium. That will be the "hopping" game day bar. There are also some nice bars downtown, near the ballpark. They are a 15-minute walk across campus to the stadium.I meanat after the game. going downtown is only good if you are a 21 yr old body builder looking to fight someone for looking at your gf. i dont plan on any bars except maybe the akron brewing co. I plan on tailgating and doing athe gameday thing on campus not in a bar

Zips fans are everywhere all the sudden
zippy_ua_00 replied to RootforRoo44's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
I think it truly is a combination of both. I think a perfect storm is brewing and if the football team can win 7 or 8 games this year and the basketball team can repeat something close to what it did last year then we may see the eye of that storm make landfall in Fall 2010. The Zips are indeed coming, and they are taking over "Buckeye Country" whatever the hell that is.im thinking the football team has a pretty good chance of taking home 7-8 wins this year. should be a good season and we will open some eyes around the country. As for the basketball team, we will be better than we were last year. we should win the conferance and if for some reason we dont we should get an at large bid. They too will open some eyes around the country, especially with losing only linhart and getting marshall, a true center, and being able to move mcknight to his true spot. He was out of place playing center but still did a hell of a job. i expect us to be ranked this year. -
including our wins over NC State and the Cuse. heres to making sweet love to PSUs endzone and
-
i think they should tear down the old softball field and let us tailgate on the grass over there
-
i think its brilliant that people are getting all worked up about us on the PSU boards on cbssportsline.com. Its nice to actually be getting some respect from a national powerhouse
