  1. I agree. I love the direction our BB team is going. We have a lot to be excited about. It's sad when we have 20,000 or so fans going to the embarrassing football games but we can't get 5,500 to go see a great BB team play. Don't get me wrong i go to the football games, but the basketball program definately deserves more funding and fan recognition. go zips.did anyone notice that someone picked APSU to beat UA 78-76 on their board. they think with their heart as much as most do on here with the football team
  2. we will lose to BG and EMU will make it a close game and we may pull it out. as for whoever posted about us making everyone their bitches next year, he also said that we would make PSU our bitch too so hes been on something for a while. should probably check into some sort of rehab treatment center. he obviously isnt seeing what everyone else is seeing. I mean it took Temple a few years to build what they have now. Oh, i didnt get to watch the game due to the fact that i was working, but i did see the box score and noticed they put wackerly in. Was it just during garbage time, or did nicely get hurt, or whats the deal with that?
  3. Wow, beating Navy is the sign of greatness? Here is their 2009 schedule and results. Navy hasn't beaten anybody good! Notre Dame is horrible and wouldn't come in third in a second tier conference like the Big 10. So your advice seems to be to allow Temple to get their yards on the ground (losing strategey) while keeping them from getting yards on the ground by having the front read their keys (winning strategy)....brilliant.Ladies and gentlemen, the Great GP1 is about to split the atom on this web board. Are you ready? A football game is won by running a balanced offense (near equal number of runs and passes) and forcing the other team to run an unbalanced by preventing their running game from doing anything. Get a big lead early with big plays (throw down field JD), run the ball late to kill the clock and force them to throw. How about mixing some man-to-man with zone when rushing only 3? If we are going to run blitz on first and second down, blitz from the outside and not up the middle....I think Wagner and our DLine could fight it out in the middle if they did a better job of forcing the action into the middle.....Our DBs do not tackle well enough to have the action forced out to them. One more DLineman would help to support the middle if they blitzed from the outside.Pass on first down and run on second down. Run straight at them like the Steelers did to the fraud that is the Denver Broncos Monday. >Let us pause briefly for a Great GP1 prediction.....The NFL has figured out Denver and IF Denver makes the playoffs, they will be the last team in. Cincinnati could win the AFC North and the Steelers would get a Wild Card (they now have a tie-breaker over Denver with the win Monday). Lots of other teams could buck the Broncos right out of the playoffs.<Enough predictions....................... An old rule in football is blitz early and cover late. If they have the lead and are getting pressure on the QB with their base defense, then they can win with this strategy. The only real unknown is if the Zips can actually play tight man-to-man defense. We never see them play tight man-to-man so we don't know how they will do at it. Our secondary is more concerned with not giving up big plays than making a play.If they have the lead late, run, run and run some more. Don't listen to the idiots who say that is playing not to lose.....I've watched the Steelers do it for 40 years and it seems to work for them. Teams that "play not to lose" always seem to end up losing. It isn't exciting and makes everyone nervous, but it works.the last time i checked, OSU and Pitt are pretty good teams and navy only lost to osu by 4
  4. Very dissapointing. As bad as it does look right now, I got to believe that we will be a MUCH improved team next year. I now it may sound like BS, like the SOS year after year, but when I see who we will be returning I have to believe that we will be contenders. If the competition stays the same level, I think our improved team will have talent enough to overcome. Yes, "we shall overcome"! We're gonna have so many Bitc..s next year, we may have to build a big fenced-in Dog Pound just to house them all in! We just have to make the best of it for the next couple games. I don't expect to be posting any coulda shoulda posts next season. There will be no excuses. I hope the time rolls around quickly, cause I, like all of the ZN, K.A.N.T wait to celebrate! GO ZIPS! should be a reality next year. And we all will be dancing/drinkin', humpin' like there's no tomorrow. someone get me what he is smoking
  5. i graduated with a degree from THE universtity of akron, in biology and im serving beers in a bar. im making far more money doing that than most people with degrees so dont knock on people because they are bartenders/servers
  6. all i gotta say is, has it really gotten so bad that we have to play our best game and basically mistake free to even compete and stay in the game vs K.E.N.T? ugh
  7. my guess is that he didnt do much research on on the teams besides their stat lines. he saw that NIU has the highest scoring front court in the league so in his mind he thinks that translates into the best team in the west. however, with the teams that are i the west, it doesnt take much to finish first. You dont even need a winning record
  8. Good thoughts from you as well. I'll look forward to the discussions again. And lets hope we see some growth from ALL of our players this year.ok, first of all, there is no way mcnees should ever play the point. he has horrible mechanics when it comes to ball handling. his dribble is to far away from his body and bounces near his shoulders. Also, he looks terrified when dribbling against a bigger, more athletic defender. Hence the turnovers. If you know anything about this league, it is a guard dominated league and mcnees should be no where running the point. he had 10 less turnovers than a true freshman, and he was a junior last season. Id expect those high turnovers with a true freshman starting at guard. 2nd, the PG position needs a player that can slash to the basket and pop it out to the wing for and open shot. We have that with roberts and humpty. Like i said before mcnees' dribble is way too far from his body and to high to slash to the hole. mcnees should be coming off the bench and standing outside hitting the 3 consistantly but except for 2 games last year we havent seen it.
  9. well the key in the past, with cribbs, edelman, and jarvis, was to run, run, pass. if we stopped that then we won. now without jarvis, edelman, or cribbs, we are gonna win by a landslide cuz all we have to do is stop the puff, puff, pass. they will be to hungry to worry about anyhing else.GO ZIPS
  10. you dont think oklahoma state is a good team? or #12 tennessee, who which the beat twice last season, or #8 st marys, who which they beat 3 times last season, or Indiana, (i know indiana wasnt great but its still a Major conferance team being beat by a mid major). they only lost to UCONN and arizona by 5. i dont see any blow outs there.
  11. I depends on the type of kid you think you can realistically recruit. At the time Zeke decided to come to UofA, we had not even won the MAC Tournament yet or made the NCAA tournament. My guess is Zeke came to UofA for a lot of reasons and very near the top he saw the Zips were winning a lot and wanted to be part of the winning. I want kids that want to be part of a winning program. Kids that are focused on the end of the season are not focused on games in January and February. I worry about bringing in kids like that.actually, i have a friend that used to tudor all the athletes, football basketbal baseball soccer etc etc, and he said zeke chose UA because of our computer program. hes a big dork. LOVES computers, LIKES basketball. can you imagine how good he could be if he LOVED basketball? Anyway, i think its good he chose our school because of the education firstly and the sport secondly, and this is why i say. he is more likely to stay all 4 years to get his degree. he will stay out of trouble cuz he is actually there for an education. anyway, GO ZIPS
  12. That's why I am predicting a game somewhat like the Syracuse game. A couple of touchdowns on odd plays, and the rest of the game being bored to tears with our production.another HUGE rushing game for an akron opponent. probably over 200 yards rushing 3 tds. depending who is at QB for NIU we will give up 2-3 passing tds. 45-6 NIU wins. our scoring a kick return with missed xtra point. and 17 missed field goals inside the 30. akron 3-11 on field goals this season
  13. Was anyone else surprised that not one MAC team received a single vote in either the Associated Press or USA Today preseason men's polls? Why would any MAC school receive a vote?im not surprised. weve gotta prove ourselves. we have a few good seasons and ONLY 1 tournament appearance. that doesnt warrant us votes. we have to go out and play like we deserve to be there ti season and then we will get some recognition. When we beat A&M thats when people will start watching out for us
  14. nice job cuse. you dominated one of the worst team in NCAA. That guy commentating acted like they just beat florida
  15. haha hes already made his run through the mac though, at BG
  16. At this point I don't care one bit whether he feels loyalty toward Akron or not. His teams have regressed to the point of complete oblivion. His loyalty means nothing at this point. If I have to deal with a coach who could not care less about Akron, Ohio, but recruits and wins some ball games, I'll take it. Unfortunately for him and for all of us, it's not a dead horse issue because we have to revisit JD and this horrible team every week for several more weeks. I continue to lament the incredible disaster this year has been. I'm starting to actually wonder whether the money spent on the stadium and the drive to build this football program was/is wasted. Who's going to come in to build a program from here, basically from scratch? How will this program hire a winning coach the way they pay shamefully low coaching salaries? How will the program recruit difference makers when we're now a dead program within several hours driving of OSWho, Michigan, MSU, Pitt, PSU, WVU, etc? Yeah, yeah, I'm way too pessimistic about UA football right now. I have to tell you though that I find no honor in loving this loser of a team, no joy in supporting this underdog anymore. 2009 Akron football is moribund, depressing and demoralizing. Without a complete turn around that will have to wait at least until next season, the building of InfoCision is going to become an utter albatross around the neck of this university, a huge, shining, concrete and glass symbol of decrepitude and failure.STZmaybe so but at least we arent Can't
  17. all that has been said in this topic, everyone needs to realize that we are out 13 scholarship players this season due to injury or other reasons. take any other team in the country, take away their top two qbs, start a true freshman in their place and take away 11 other scholarship players, which are most likely starters and see if they contend. Not many could. I agree this seaso sucks, but can you really be that surprised by all the missing parts that we have. its not completely JDs fault.
  18. Well deserved indeed. But Sewell not making the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd teams is absurd.whats even more sickening, is we only have 2 names on that whole list, first, second or third team offense and defense. something needs to be done with our talent evaluation
  19. i bet earl boykins, dru joyce and jaamal ball were too small too
  20. i love how the hoo hoo guy keeps saying they dominated. they barely won against EKU and WMU. oh and the running back that averaged 6.1 ypr, ill bet he doesnt get half that tomorrow. idiots. if indiana wins 3 more games this year the messiah will be returning and hell will freeze over
  21. 45-6 eh??? is that why we are a 4.5 point favorite and the line is going up each day. solid win over eastern kentucky by the way.
  22. hearing him say kickoff at 2 pm TOMORROW gave me chills. im SOOOOOOOOOO excited. its gonna be a beautiful sight and that stadium, with the lower bowl being below street level is going to be LOUD. i cant wait.
