Since the weather has closed the Akron,Wayne, and Medina Campuses today....do they cancel the athletic event also? Just wondering...

If you consider about 8-10 rowdies and 1/4 of the lower reserved on each side a "Crowd", then no...it was pretty easy to put your foot up, except for a couple of us actually did that(actually it was laptop on seat) and broke a couple of our seats in the process...so that's 2 less seats for rowdies against Can't state... Uh oh...was the "seat guy" there to yell at you guys? (i'm sure you know who i'm talking about)i actually didn't see him there thursday...

I couldn't agree more. Many a game have been lost by the Zips in the past few years due to KD not riding the momentum his players build. The way he runs things it's hard for shooters to get into any sort of rhythm.I agree also. He has a tendency to sub in 3-4 players at a time, which makes no sense. You have a good run going, momentum and chemistry working, if a guy is tired sub him out but not all of them. I feel like I'm watching hockey with all the line changes! If you can afford to, substitute liberally early in a game. Players are humans and not robots so they become tired.Getting a lead early in a game is critical in any sport. In basketball, it allows a coach to rest his players. If you have a 12 point lead and rest your starters, the other team has to leave their starters in to try to catch up. If they catch up to say four, then put the starters back in. The other team will be tired from trying to catch up and the starters can expand the lead again.Basketball is a game very much like hockey in there is constant motion. Rest is critical.kinda hard to be in constant motion when there's a media timeout every 2 minutes it seems...

I drifted this quote from my post on offering my tickets to the NIU game.My right .... you bet. I have been a fan of Zips sports from before most of you were born. I have held multipleseason tickets for football and basketball for more years than I care to count.Ninty-nine percent of the time I am a huge supporter of coaches. Even the really bad ones. I love KD.But, he has lost control. He needs to right the ship. The Zips have stunk up four of the past five games. The team has no heart, no soul, no drive, no killer instinct. Where is the leadership? I will tell you where. He is sitting to damned much of the time. KD, love the kids. Stop putting them in season long dog houses.Tonight I saw Dan Hipsher not Keith Dambrot. Hipsher never trusted his kids. KD knows better.Let us start with basics. First, free throws. Which coach teaches free throws? It is not enough tomake the kids shoot free throws when they are winded. A coach needs to watchfully correct bad mechanics. It is not being done. Game after game the kids go to the line and never get off their heels. A free throwshot is a continuous motion that begins at the ball of the foot and ends with full extension of the shootingarm. Other than Darryl Roberts none of the kids have good mechanics. Not one.Second, we play great defense for thirty seconds, usually. Sure, there are occasional breakdowns, that hapens. The problem is the last five seconds. Teams have learned to pass and weave and patiently wait for theend of the shot clock then drive the basket. We stand there flat footed and they knock down lay up afterlay up .. unguarded. This happens repeatedly because no one is communicating. No one calls the switch. No one releases and doubles down. No one, and I mean, no one is talking on the floor. If they were, we would hear them. You know all those missed shovel passes that become turnovers? No communication and the receiving player gets the ball unexpectedly. He can not read the other guy's mind.Third, other than Nikola, who drives the lane to the basket? That's right. No one.Fourth, we need a point guard that sees the floor and distributes the ball. I love Steve McNees, at the twowhere he gets open and knocks down treys. It is a whole different ball game when he is chucking themup in desperation. KD is not developing a point guard because he is comfortable with Steve. I'm not. But, I'm just a stupid fan. I want Steve out at the two where he is most effective.Fifth, who is guarding who? We had Brett McKnight guarding the EMU shooter. Isn't that better handledby Jimmy Conyers? I thought that assignments were awful. EMU had so many great mismatches on us.Sixth, lethargy. You just got to love lethargy because we have so much of it. Passion? Hell, if the securityguards catch a fan with any sort of passion they hustle them right out of the gym. If KD sees a playerplaying with passion he sits him down. KD, you are ripping the hearts out of these kids. Its on you, pal.Seven, the good old AK-howdies. They are back. Thrity kids in each end zone. There were a thousandRowdies at the soccer games. They all die?My last gripe of the night is the backing off of the full court pressure right when EMU was coming unglued. The time out at 6:32 and the three bigs are sat down and in trots Zeke, McClanahan and I don't recall. At any rate, the full court pressure stopped and so did the run. That's coaching, ahem. I am pissed.+3couldn't say it better myself.i'm showing up every game, i can't help about how many of them come...getting tired of many rowdies only showing up to the "big" games...

this isn't the first game...Austin Peay, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Toledo,Can't State,and now Eastern Michigan...and there's probably a couple I left out...

Can explain to me why they do that so much on defense? I see it all the time with Zeke or Bardo. They play man and get their center brought out up top and beat to the basket 4-5 times a game!I really can't tell you. If we had Zeke down low we could gamble and send the 2-3 guy out and pressure knowing we had an answer in the paint. To do what he did on that play tonight was absurd. Medlock is a good, quick guard and the outcome of that play was very predictable because it left the lane vacant. Another time in the game Zeke made a pretty hook shot so what does Keith do?? That's right, sits him down with the next whistle and fatigue was not a factor. Lets not give the kid a chance to get on a roll and build his confidence.fatigue is definitely not an issue with a media timeout every 2 minutes it seems like...

Poor effort and heart tonight...those people know who im talking about...if I was Dambrot(lucky im not), all of you that played and put no effort(that's what it looked like) on that floor tonight, would be in street clothes on wednesday and I'd play even if we lost to NIU...as long as they play with effort...none of that was showed tonight...i'd rather watch the women's team...heck, i rather watch the swimming team after this effort...U WANT MORE PLAYING TIME, THEN PLAY LIKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CMU,EMU,WMU,NIU,BSU,BGSU,Can't Statecks...want to know what they have all in common? they PLAY even if the refs are terrible(whch they are)...all i have to say is WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the standings but not at the bank.I think Saturday's game scared away a few hundred people from ever attending another Zips basketball game.I would guess that most of the reason for the bigger crowd on Saturday was due to the Hall of Fame inductions. and the soccer team being honored...

What do Zips Fans Really think?

TV Ratings are far from hypothetical, very well studied due to the all powerful advertising dollar. Look up what share a prime time network first round ncaa playoff game pulls, then look up the other two scenarios. You'll be surprised. I realize this isn't the intention of the original post, but for the sake of knowledge for those who aren't aware, it's a nice research project. But TV ratings have nothing to do with the "guaranteed .01% of Akron population caring about soccer, or the guarantee fan preferences. TV is a whole different ball game and part of the reason football is more popular than soccer in America is because TV and the media tells us it is. This thread is like asking if you'd want a Indians National Title vs. Cavaliers making (only) the first round of playoffs vs. the Browns beating the Steelers in regular season. A title, championship, being THE winner overall is the highest honor. Nothing else comes close.NO the comparison is asking whether you want the Indians making the playoffs as a wild card or seeing the Gladiators win the championship.Soccer is NOT on the same level of football or basketball....period.RootforRoo44, you're right. Soccer is not on the same level as football or basketball; however, if I had to pick between a national championship or a playoff appearance, I would have to say that I would choose the national championship because that will forever be there...no matter what the sport is even though it may not seem as important as football or basketball, being able to say "National Champion" can be said forever, people won't remember outside of Akron in what basketball or football does unless they win it all... -
McClanahan had a nice charge when WMU was on a 2 on 1 breakaway and the guy just took the bait...

All I've been hearing is how everyone is craving for a national championship....but if given the choice of trading a national championship for a bowl game or a win in the NCAA tournament they would...totally hypocritical IMO...I bet that the Akron "Joes" don't remember George Mason or where they are after their final four run...same with Davidson in five years....so how do you expect to get publicity with just one win in NCAA tourney, and contain that publicity in 5 years? Same with football...Would someone in Utah remember Akron's win in a "Whatever name it is" Bowl 3 years later....so i don't want to hear about publicity and media and press when it won't have a long-term effect like a national championship would... -
A place for this years team in the record books

THe only thing I would trade a national championship for in soccer, is a national championship or a final four in basketball...we're all waiting to win a team national championship, but when we discuss getting one, you're willing to trade it for 1 win or publicity from a bowl game or publicity of it......sorry...but no one remembers who beat Illinois last year or UConn 2 years ago in the 1st round so I don't want just 1 win in NCAA tourney to trade a national championship we've all been craving for...it would have to be a run in a tourney...Without looking, who can tell me who played in the Independence Bowl or the Insight Bowl and the scores of those games? most likely not...What I'm saying is that I rather be good enought to have a national championship instead of going to a meaningless bowl game that huge fans won't watch not from the area or a small run in the NCAA tournament that people won't remember 5 years later...Soccer to me or any sport(we just seem to be further ahead with soccer), if we are good at that, I'll watch it and root them on. At my high school alma mater, we were good at wrestling and produced many state champions, so i rooted for them as i did other sports cause that was our best shot at a state title but would not give up a state title in wrestling compared to basketball or baseball because we were known for wrestling(i know...i hate wrestling and it's pathetic)...I just think it's hypocritical that people would want to give up a national title in soccer for a good run in basketball or a samll bowl game(thanks to BCS system), when all i've been hearing is wanting a national team title...I want hardware that would last a lifetime and would always be at UA, instead of a memory that involved having a good time even though we didn't get the big hardware...i want more hardware on shelf, not less because guess I'm part of the .01 percent... -
:very soft voice: sssssssssssssssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...they might figure out what we're doing even though we've done the last few years..."cough" hint :cough: ...just a guess...

Since True Blue won't let it down, then neither will the AK-Rowdies, and since this is a big "rivalry" game today, I want to honor both teams and wish both good luck today. Couldn't make it since my passport expired...anyways, this is supposed to be just little raw-raw things between the students...if anyone feels offended,sorry...here we go..."It's time for the visiting team's national anthem."Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early lightWhat so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming? And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet waveO'er the land of the free and the home of the brave(ZIPS)?-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------"And now, your national anthem for your Buffalo Bulls."O Canada! Our home and native land!True patriot love in all thy sons command. With glowing hearts we see thee rise,The True North strong and free! From far and wide,O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.God keep our land glorious and free!O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.LET'S GO ZIPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BRING HOME A WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
