Given the Big 12's recent addition of Colorado, Utah, AZ, and AZ St, I'll wager you don't have to kick over too many rocks to find Big 12 stakeholders who seriously regret previously admitting Cincy, UCF and Houston. Cincy and UCF in particular seemed like good lifelines at the time, but now, not so much.

I would assume the BigTen feels the same way about Maryland and Rutgers. What do they bring to the table in that conference other than the NYC market?

  2. I know UA isn't going anywhere, but man it would be nice to get out of the MAC. Yeah I'm beating a dead horse and it's completely unrealistic. But hypothetically could we pull a UConn and go Big East in everything but football? Could the some of the top MAC, AAC, Sun Belt schools break off and form their own conference? I mean for all the hate the AAC gets they still have Memphis, Navy, USF, etc.

Hard to argue against these units. They are beautiful. Especially when we beat Kent. There should be a rule that we wear them every year against the Flashes.

I think the reason I like the current uniforms so much is that they really remind me of these throwbacks. The look fits so well with the new logo, the only thing missing now is maybe some stripes on the helmet.

The team probably wouldn't spring for a whole new uniform set for one game a season. But I think that you're on to something. Maybe every Wagon Wheel matchup they make sure to go gold helmet, blue or white jersey and gold pants. The more traditional combos. Just like the Browns always go brown over orange or white over orange against Pittsburgh.

Welp no castaneda again and more lost sleep for all of us that watched😔

Glad I didn't stay up again. I saved the game on Youtube TV just in case, but obviously it doesn't matter now. What's the point of having guys on the roster if they aren't going to play? Good thing they kept Preston in there so he could score 2 points the whole game.

Surprisingly Bates has had two solid games in row for the Cavs. After a very selfish first game he seems to be learning that he can't just shoot a 3 every single time he touches the ball. Still needs a lot of work, especially on defense.

When I turned on the Clippers game to check on X, I did not realize two things:

    1. Jason Preston is on the Clips,

    2. After missing most of his young professional career to injury, the Clips clearly want to take a good long look at him to see what they have.

Preston has been on the floor all night and no sign of X (other than buried on the bench) after 3 quarters.  Hoping for some garbage time to justify watching summer league ball.

I actually stayed up to watch thinking he'd at least get a few minutes. Guess not. Really don't understand the downside of letting all of your guys play in a Summer League game. The results are meaningless.

I was shocked to see that Preston ended up with 15 points and 10 assists, since honestly he looked pretty terrible for parts of the game I watched.

Can confirm. Every few months I see a cringeworthy Facebook "memory" showing me a status update from my college days. It's always something cryptic like this and it was always about a girl.

And the Cavaliers drafted him. Did they not have any scouts to send 30 miles down the road?

I'd be shocked if the Cavs didn't have any scouts in attendance for his 3 point clunker at the JAR. They watched that trainwreck and still picked him?

Cavs fans seem so excited about it for some reason but this makes zero sense to me. It's like everyone is going on high school hype alone, while ignoring his play on the court and character off the court.

I think Memphis should draft Emoni. I think JA Morant would be a good mentor.

Headlines that have aged like milk...

Tigers star Emoni Bates sees Ja Morant as a 'big brother'

I remember when the media tried to tell us how positive it was that Bates had him as a mentor.

Guarantee the Cavs had scouts watch the Zips absolutely demolish Eastern last season and I guarantee they saw them completely shut down Bates. Didn't he also have a meltdown on the bench?

  9. On one hand I'm excited to play as the Zips again in a NCAA football game. But I wonder how much attention they will spend to us lowly MAC schools. Especially during the first few years. InfoCision was super detailed in NCAA 14 even down to the buildings surrounding the stadium and along Exchange. But if I remember correctly the Zips just had a generic stadium for a long time before that. The Rubber Bowl might have been in some older games and the JAR never appeared in any of the NCAA basketball games.

I thought the same about removing some of the rubber, but apparently it was an irreversible mistake. Perhaps because there is no way to remove the rubber without damaging the turf itself? Not sure

Wonder if they could sell part of the turf they just tore up? or send me some for free. That would be pretty cool in a man cave!

Although I can already hear my wife "What the hell are we going to do with all this fake grass?!"

  11. You'd think they could just use a machine or something pick up the rubber and put down the correct amount. Since technically the turf was okay? or maybe there was too much irreversible damage done already? I actually thought the field looked too bright. But that's probably because of how faded the old surface had become.

Basketball centric arena that can host concerts, trade shows, local high school graduations, and things of that nature. Indoor soccer or football leagues just don't have much long-term staying power. I just don't think the additional cost of a multi-purpose facility, combined with the reduced basketball atmosphere, would be worth it given how unlikely it would be that we would secure a long-term co-tenant.

Yup indoor soccer/football leagues are super low budget and kind of a joke. I've never felt like Akron was a hockey town. Hell NE Ohio didn't even seem to care much when I lived there. The only reason you build an arena to host hockey is if you plan on starting a D1 program, get a CHL Jr Hockey team to relocate, or AHL which isn't happening with the Monsters in Cleveland. I think junior hockey might be interesting to people. Basically the hockey equivalent of BigTen/SEC football. The games in Erie are a blast, especially when Conor McDavid was here. But Would a league based in Ontario want a team in Akron? Doubtful.

An arena really just needs to host basketball and concerts. What's the big indoor venue in Akron now? The Civic theater? Does EJ even have concerts anymore?

  13. For a little bit of perspective. Justin Thomas of the PGA Tour said the same word, under his breath after missing a putt and was dropped by a bunch of sponsors because it was picked up by the mic. Jim Beilein called his players "thugs" and was fired. Ole KD used the n-word and was fired.

This wasn't something said on the court or in a locker room. It was said live on the radio.

Not really any excuses. He'll probably get a lot of support because of the fanbase in WV, but this is unacceptable.

Ali Ali coming back may be as big of a story as LeBron returning to Cleveland a few years ago. Dare I say maybe even bigger?!?

    (Yes, thats a joke, guys!)

The JAR is going to be packed for the first game. I guarantee there will be hundreds of tickets sold.

Never appreciated the excuses for his failure to take us to the next level. Did not appreciate the state he left the program in. Did not appreciate the ceiling he put on Akron when he left for Duquesne.

Absolutely appreciate the level to which he elevated Akron basketball, but the way he spoke (bitching about the JAR, MAC 1-bid league, fans, etc.) made it seem like Akron had the ceiling instead of Dambrot. Time is proving that the ceiling was actually over Dambrot, not Akron.

This. He padded the schedule with cupcakes to get to the 20 win mark, then give us a false sense of hope that our team was a lot better than it was. Just to fall apart when it really mattered and he bailed for a worse school. I don't care what conference Duquense plays in or how much they are paying him. They are a god awful program. He wanted an easier path to the tournament. So far it's not working out for him.

  16. Obviously not 2023-season related, but 2024-26. Do we think it's even remotely possible the Browns could use InfoCision Stadium again to play a season while their stadium is being renovated? Every article says Columbus is the most likely destination, but that makes no sense and is just speculation. Canton has been suggested too. Which is fine, but not nearly as nice as InfoCision. Especially with the press box, suites, club level, etc. I find it odd that nobody is even mentioning Akron. I'm sure UA and the surrounding businesses would love to host the Browns for a year or two. Probably just a pipe dream but I hope the Browns at least consider it.

Does anyone remember a time when this board used to be dead after the season.  I think I have seen more posts the last few weeks then I have during some games.  Times are changing.

Not that I want to drive any traffic away from this site, but I still find it crazy that the Zips fanbase seems so small and almost non-existent on social media. There's maybe 2-3 good twitter and instagram handles, with nothing on reddit.

It would be cool if we could really build a decent following everywhere.
