Never feels like Akron and OSU are in the same division with how little they interact. So I still wear the gear and root for them to win the natty in football and try to be competent at basketball lol. Akron is better than OSU this year Im convinced on that.
Akron football has been a joke for the last decade, so I don't blame people for not caring. Personally for me though I'd rather watch my school lose every game in a mediocre conference than be a fan of some school in Columbus I have no connection to. Watching the Zips win a national championship in soccer or making the NCAA tournament in basketball means more to me because I feel more attached.
I didn't grow up in Ohio and only lived in the state for 4 years. I was shocked with how so many people blindly worship OSU. Here in PA, most Penn State fans I know either went to school in State College or one of the branch campuses. Other than that there's some Pitt people, D2 fans of PSAC schools and that's about it. I guess the Buckeyes in Ohio are just a different animal and I never really got the appeal.

Ken Carmen is awesome. Anytime a Cleveland radio guy goes after OSU, I'm a fan. Except for Aaron Goldhammer. I HATE that guy more than anyone else on the radio.
I think Tony Rizzo went to Ohio, while Jason Gibbs and Jay Crawford are Bowling Green guys. You'd think with that much representation, the MAC would get more love. But Ohio State will aways be king.

She does an awesome job covering Cleveland sports. There are like 4-5 Akron grads all over Cleveland media with multiple on sports talk radio. It's always nice when the Zips get coverage and really wish it happened more. I'd assume their bosses tell them to push OSU as much as possible and keep Akron talk minimal.

Freeman was unstoppable and we were hitting everything in the first half. Second half he got into foul trouble and the shots weren't falling. I like our chances if Freeman stays on the floor.

Crowd looks and sounds great on TV. Happy to see this team finally get the attention it deserves and hopefully this can happen more consistently.
I do really miss seeing the seats behind the hoops. I know there weren't many rows and they were underutilized, but it seems so empty around the court now.

Loved seeing the highlights of Eastern players nailing 3's as the broadcast cut away to halftime, just for the score to pop up showing them down almost 20.

It's like the chicken and the egg. UA will never feel the need to build a new arena because attendance is mostly embarrassing. Fans aren't going to the games because the arena sucks. This team is so good right now, they deserve both a respectable place to play and a decent turnout from fans. If we want people around NE Ohio, fans, students and even recruits to take the Zips seriously something needs to be done. It's long overdue. There's no reason that schools like Northern Kentucky and JMU can build fantastic new arenas and we can't. Even Duquesne put $45m into renovating their place for KD. While I think that solution is nearsighted and just polishing a turd, it's better than nothing.
By the time something actually happens Groce will be long gone and who knows what the state of Zips basketball will be when that happens.

Good win for the Zips and the crowd looked decent on TV. I'm not sure if Boals and Bobcats believe they committed a foul all game with the way they were complaining.

Did anyone else catch Dawson going over to calm down Groce after the second awful technical foul call? It's not often you see a player stepping up like. Most of the times it's coach that needs to calm down a player and help them control their emotions. But to see a young college kid do that is some next level maturity.

Unlike Kent who has like 4 different uniforms that are all atrocious and have no consistent branding direction.

I entered one intermural basketball tourney during my days at UA. Our team went even longer before we even scored a point. We finished the game with 12 total points and I had 9 of them.
It's not fun being on the other side of that.
