^^ I can relate, Balsy. While I think of myself as a realist and not a Bowden apologist or whatever, I would assume I am more patient than the old grumps is because the only ever Zips football I've ever known is 1-11 and 1-11. Then again, football before that wasn't anything to brag about either.

I was talking past tense in the sense of him being a coordinator at OSU, being that I believe he was the runner up when we hired Ianello. I don't think those types (coordinator at top programs) are realistic options in today's college football dynamic unless we are really ready to open up the checkbook.

Lot of interesting wording in this press release. At face, I want to say its the best of both worlds, but are they "club" sports or not? I have very little faith on having enough community sports to have them.."funded". Essentially a club team in the MAC sounds like a disaster, at least from a competitive standpoint. I can't recall anybody penciling this game in as a win. Some may have predicted it, but nobody acted like they were a pushover. Troy won 10 games last season.

I watched half of the Troy/NMSU game and I can't say I was too impressed with them. A solid G5 team obviously, but nobody really stood out that worries me. I think their QB is a 6th year senior and they have a pretty good RB that isn't quite back yet from an ACL tear? They didn't exactly light up NMSU, who was picked to finish 10th preseason in the Sunbelt, even though I'll admit they didn't look bad at all. Them getting more points than ISU did against us doesn't seem right. Hopefully it does end up like the ULL game a few seasons ago.

I would say not. Even though Higgins performed yesterday, he was really only called up because the coaching staff wanted to play Duke more at RB than the slot. That meant Kasen Williams was inactive. I'd expect him to be active next week and going forward with Coleman out.

Losing Alvin sucks as I still think that call is a joke, but his replacement (Featherstone) is a starting caliber player as well so I do not expect it to be an issue.

Likely or not, I would prefer another P5 retread who has had success. Think Kelly, Les, or even Pelini. I could maybe come up with others if I put some thought into it and some may even open after the season. No thanks on Winters for me. The thing is, the money in the top of college football is so ridiculous anymore, you have OSU's coordinators getting paid way more than our HC. Looking at the Luke Fickell's of the world anymore just isn't realistic. A guy I really like is Kerry Coombs. OH guy who is a great recruiter and he consistently develops that talent and churns out 1st rounders annually. He is a positional coach, but I think we could afford him. Also I'm not sure if he's too old or not or even wants to be a HC at this point.

It's been discussed on here plenty. Extension or fire him. You can't expect to recruit anybody when they know you won't be there.

Yeah I think 2-2 is what any reasonable fan would have projected as best case scenario coming out of OOC, and its still a possibility though Troy will be tough. A lot of yesterday was beating ourselves, which is very frustrating.

^^ Sounds about right on our side. I thought our starting DEs played well, at least in run defense. I would like to see them get more pressure on passing downs. There seemed to be a drop off when back ups went in. Ball's lack of success really didn't have anything to do with himself.

He might have been off on a throw or two as every QB will, but his completion % is higher than its ever been. That's saying something with this group of WRs and their drops.

Woody being washed up is BS and you know it. It's okay if you're wrong.

I've actually thought a lot about this, but have not said anything being that we still have 75% of this season left. I do not think the cupboard will be bare, at least for next year, assuming 2 things - Woody's replacement is competent, which I think is likely and WRs WRs WRs WRs. Which I think there is potential with Stewart, Williams, and McGriff. We have more young players playing than ever, seem to be putting together our best recruiting class yet (who knows how it will end up), and we really don't lose much of value from this year's class outside of a few key players, but I think they have capable backups or backups with potential.

I attended the game today with somebody who used to be a GA in recruiting. I'm not airing it all out there as I don't see how it helps the program and outside people read this, but I will say the lack of success (at least then...to me it appears to be changing, whether it is too late or not I don't know) was a result of laziness and being full of themselves, meaning thinking they can recruit at the last minute off of name and reputation alone. Would explain why many of the previous classes did not get filled up until late....

Decided to look at some comments on the ZipsFB page on Facebook. It's not hard to see where Kato gets his apparent lack of class from........his father seems like a handful. I mean he truly believes we would have beaten PSU if his son was playing.

I'll bite....because we got our asses kicked when we shouldn't have against a not very good program, and a lot of it was a result of us beating ourselves. But hey Keener, it looks like you're right if thats what you want to hear!
