I think this has been said before but I'd like to reiterate that downtown isn't off campus like everyone is pretending it is. This situation is not comparable to the Rubber bowl. The way I see it, is that if the downtown location is equidistant from some residence halls on campus as the JAR is, then the downtown location is close enough. Think about where Polsky, Quaker Square, and the CBA are. Those are in downtown and they are also part of campus. Again, the line between campus and downtown for me, is a blurry one. Also, I'd hardly call the surrounding stadium area a "restaurant district." Subway and taco bell do not equal bricco and lockview. It probably sounds like I'm taking the side of the downtown arena, but really at this point I haven't been convinced that one location is better than another. I'm just pointing out some of the flaws with the "downtown is too far away" argument.

I think you may be right. Gatt has played RB for Molde though, and I think Porter probably wants to give him another shot there. I've heard Gatt is better as an attacking player, but as we know what Porter wants out of an RB is basically a winger who can defend a little. To me, this team has three really good wingers with a lot of pace and skill; Gatt, Gyau, and Shea. If you can play Gatt at RB and put Shea on the left wing and Gyau on the right wing, I think you have a pretty dangerous attack. Hopefully Porter agrees with me.

Interesting that Gatt is mentioned as a F in the article but listed as a D. I think Porter is planning on playing him in the Kofi position.

Wow, Penn State? That's awful Haha well what do I know? It even mentions the OSU-Michigan rivalry. Well, I still don't feel as though their rivalry expands to all other universities in the state, even if there was a war between our states. Definitely interesting though. If I had to guess, I'd say the people on the radio station I was listening to were also unaware of that war and were not basing their statements on it.

I think part of the problem is we are still not Ohio State. I do not want to be Ohio State, but I think that is the only way some Akron students/area residents will ever care about this team. On my way to my parent's house today (in central Ohio) I was listening to the radio and they were talking about the selections for the tournament. When they got to OU they talked about how they drew Michigan, and they said "If Ohio could pull off the win against Michigan, that would be a victory for the whole state of Ohio." Guess what? For me, it would not be a victory for the whole state of Ohio. I don't care about any imaginary rivalry between the states of Ohio and Michigan. To my knowledge, there has ever been any war or anything between our two states, so there isn't any state rivalry. I don't say to myself "well we gotta root against Michigan because they are the rival of OSU, which is the rival of the REAL university in our state." Likewise, any real OU fans are not looking at this as a way of "beating their big brother's rival," it's probably just a game for them. When we play Michigan in soccer I don't think of it as "we hate Michigan because we're in the same state as Ohio State." I am sick of being thought of as one of OSU's reject cousins.

Rip the seats out of the JAR so there is no way to sit down.

Me and the guys I rode up with were talking about this on the way home. Can't is a fun rivalry, and I think among the players there is mutual respect for each other, but even Dambrot has said before that when it comes to OU, the guys on the team don't like each other. Pretty sure Rico and Cooper hate each other.

The Clevelander sucked. I would have much rather gone to the Linking Wizard or whatever. Only positives were the location in relation to the Q and also some of the songs that was being played were from random bands that I think probably no one but me likes. That aside though, this is just not the type of place to host an event like this. When it finally picked up, it was too packed, you couldn't really move. There was hardly enough seating, I almost had to eat standing up just holding my plate until I finally had some people make room for me. There were no food deals, and the TWO drink deals were not that good. The upstairs was reserved for us at 5, which is pretty late in relation to when some people like to head to the Q, and there were only five small tables upstairs anyway. If you wanted food, you had to wait in a line like a fast food place while one poor man who needs to work on operating his computer faster took forever to take your order. Then you have to wait around for your order (to their credit, this really didn't take THAT long) and the food wasn't that great. I don't think they were ready for us, I don't know if they could have been ready for us. The analogy I made, which although wasn't perfect, one of my friends agreed with, was that it was kind of like having an event at Pint's that should have been at Barley. Also one of the guys who worked there asked if Zippy was a moose.

I love Nik Cvetinovic. Great player, a real leader on the team, loves to to interact with the fans, and he has developed so much over the years. I also had the pleasure of having a couple classes with him, he really is a character and he's very intelligent as well, he usually participated more than most of the other students in the class and always had something very smart to contribute to class discussion. For me, he will definitely be remembered as one of my favorite Zips players.

He's not that great, he only scored five goals against Leverkusen in Champion's League play the other day. Pretty weak...

"That could be downtown, across from Canal Park, where the Akron Aeros play minor-league baseball, on property that UA currently does not own, or on university property at the corner of East Exchange and Spicer streets, just east of InfoCision Stadium." That is not the same as "they narrowed it down to across from Canal Park and corner of Spicer and Exchange." Also, which corner of Spicer and Exchange specifically is being referred to?

OK so I know that this being a discussion topic was implying that us losing the Ohio game may have led to a more rewarding feeling when we won at home. Then that didn't happen. Alright well I don't know what it would have felt like to clinch at home, but I can tell you one thing: being at the MAC center to rub it in all the Can't fans' faces felt so good. Especially after this recent spell we've had. Felt incredible to be there and to win at their place.

Sorry, double post

It still catches me off guard every time I see Porter with this team, what an accomplishment for him. I'm so used to these Porter interviews starting out with "Well, obviously Bowling Green is a quality opponent, credit to them for their hard work" but instead it's "Well, obviously Mexico is a quality opponent, credit to them for their hard work." I can't wait to see more from this team going forward.

The only time I remember Dambrot starting a senior who doesn't usually start is five years ago, I think Goddard started on senior night instead of Linhart, but if I'm not mistaken the rest of that starting 5 was already seniors. I don't think Brett McKnight or Mike Bardo started on senior night last year.
-
Either way, these guys are probably just depth/practice squad players. With the established core we have, the big names coming in, and Porter's sparse use of subs, I don't really see guys like this getting much playing time. Probably just rounding out the roster because there could very well be departures of guys who filled that same role last year.

Caleb Porter Pleased with U23's Performance Under Adversity
-
When I first saw this roster I was surprised that none of Trapp, Gallego, or Yedlin made the team. Then I remembered that at least Trapp just had surgery, and I think Gallego is getting over an injury or something. Has anyone else heard anything about these injuries?
-
Porter on ExtraTime Radio, his part of the interview begins around the 36 minute mark.

So Wednesday the 29th, the senior team AND the U-23s play? Sounds like a fun day. Not to mention it's also the basketball team's last home game. Oh and by the way, could anyone back me up here? As we could have probably predicted, the people on BigSoccer (and probably a lot of other US fans) are starting to complain that Porter is playing favorites by calling in so many Akron guys.

A little bit off topic but... a couple weeks ago I went into one of my professor's offices to meet with him. I walked into his office and the seats were like four connected wooden chairs. I sat down and didn't immediately put the pieces together and while examining it said "this is, uh, this is a bench?" He told me that it was a set of chairs from Memorial Hall. Pretty cool huh?
