Yeah Ponikvar is in the net which is unusual for us only being up 1-0

Anyone know who'll cover Ampai's spot in the starting lineup? The starting lineup has been pretty static except for the one midfield position that has been started by either Speas, Stevenson, or Caldwell at different points in the season. Perhaps two of those three start the next game instead of just one of them. The other option I could see Porter going with is Martin Ontiveros, who has on more than one occasion been the one to come on the field the few times Ampai goees out, usually toward the end of the match. If I guess all of those players and I'm not right with one of those predictions, then I give up haha Hopefully we will be able to get some revenge on NIU after the slaughtering their football team brought to Akron last week.

Lowe's Senior CLASS Award
yazan07 replied to tbozeglav's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Ha, Jeremy is one of the finalists. He sure showed a lot of CLASS when he pushed the ROWDIES last year when he played for Hartwick. We need to make sure Ampai wins this, there is no reason he shouldn't. -
Me and a couple other guys went to the Spring tournament in Pontiac, and it was in an indoor facility. Oakland was one of the teams in the tournament, but I don't know if that is their home facility. After just now checking their athletic website though, the game will be held at the same indoor facility. It's a pretty nice place with I think three soccer fields indoors.

My house is near one of those big billboards that say "new coach, new stadium, new generation of Akron football." But really I want to rip that down and replace it with one like this, but instead it has JD Brookhart on it

I noticed a couple things tonight at the game. First of all, I realized that our two leading goal scorers are none other than our two freshmen who start and get the most minutes of any of the freshmen. I don't know if that says something about the continuous improvement of Porter's recruiting classes or what. Also as I had hoped for, we got to see some of the guys in action tonight who don't usually play. Enrique Paez is always a crowd favorite, at least among the students, because a lot of us know him. This was probably also fun for him because he briefly attended FAU if I am not mistaken. We also got to see Reinaldo Brenes for the first time tonight. I had just assumed he was redshirting this year, but apparently he is not. I think by the end of the game, with the exception of Meves and maybe one other player, we had subbed out all of our starters.

People wonder why so many hate OSU fans... Also, as mentioned eariler, this was not just some normal OSU player, this was Konrad Warzycha, who was a CAPTAIN, and who is the son of the head coach of the Columbus Crew. For someone someone with credentials like that, how classless.

I saw this commercial a few weeks ago and mentioned it on facebook. I was then asked to produce a video and the internet made a liar out of me by not having it available anywhere I could find. Glad to know someone else saw it and I wasn't just imagining it. It was pretty cool seeing our guys get so much airtime in a commercial like that.

Unless I missed it, I don't believe that Genovesi or Brenes have seen any regular season playing time (redshirts?). I don't think any of the other freshmen have played besides Perry, Mattocks, Tulloch, and Ontiveros. I too was wondering if any of the others were redshirting. *edit* I just looked at the list, and saw that Perry was #3 and Darren was #15. I'm almost certain that if our other freshmen were getting significant minutes we would be seeing a few more of them on this list, and their absence from the top 100 is in no way a reflection of their lack of talent.

"Akron is led by... oh, hell, everyone on Akron is a pro prospect." That's pretty decent haha. Glad people are aware of this.

FREE CHRIS JACQUEMAIN!!!

This has been discussed a bit on here, but I think it's pretty likely that Valentin is gone. Sarkodie, ditto. I keep thinking -- maybe the guy with the highest ceiling, who has only begun to scratch the surface of his talent, is Ben Speas. Speas and Caldwell will be the Gavin and Zemanski of 2011. Ben and Perry Kitchen are capable of scoring goals from the midfield, no doubt about it. As good as this team is this year, 2011...Mmmmm, mmmmm, Good! Yeah I figure Kofi, maybe Zarek, and possibly Darlington too. And while I agree that players like Speas and Kitchen are only going to get better and make the 2011 season great; the thing that I worry about for that year, is that if both Zarek and Kofi leave early, and Chris Korb graduates, there goes 3/4 of this unstoppable back line. And while we currently have a lot of depth in the midfield and up front, we really don't have too many defenders on the bench right now. The only thing that makes it seem as though this might not be a huge problem, is that little detail that we have the best team in the country and Porter really has top picks at new guys, to some degree. Even if we do restock with the best prospects in the country, I still don't feel like that completely replaces the experience and coherence this line of defenders have built. Oh well, only time shall tell. And if all else fails, we have Meves in the net, and he's a beast.

I think this is great and really speaks volumes for our team and our players. The more things I see like this (and like the trip to NC two weeks ago) the more it becomes apparent that our team really is the front funner by a long shot. I can't believe we have twice as many players on that list as Maryland, who itself was the only team with five players. This also speaks a lot about the talent on our bench. I have to imagine most of the other players on that list start for their teams, but Scotty doesn't usually start and even Speas has come off the bench a few times this year, yet they are still designated as being in the top 100 players in the nation. Another thing this list made me think of is something that I think we try not to think about...who (besides the seniors) will be leaving us next year? Having so many players ranked so high makes me think that it's almost inevitable that a few of them are going to get swept up by generation adidas again this year.

I was at Barley after the football game later that night. That place makes me mad. It is literally down the street from the fourth largest schoool in the state and they just kept shoving Ohio State down everyone's throat. The DJ kept talking about their game the other night and even played their fight song while some old fat cheerleaders danced to it. It's like they don't even know that UA is right up the street. I don't understand why people have more pride in other schools than they do their own.

Everyone is talking about how bad marketing is. Well I have a good marketing strategy to bring people out to the games, our soccer team has been using this strategy for a while now, and they manage to bring a pretty good turnout: win games

This is a pretty cool idea. I like how they made the sporting events that I am probably not going to go to worth more points so that I will probably go to them. My questions is though, when you achieve a level of points does that mean you get the prize at that level AND the prizes of the lower levels? Or do you just get the prizes at the level you achieve? Another question for you bandzip, how many points do I get for going to bandorama? 100? And how many points for peeling chipped paint from some front porch at a party?

Why would someone not want to drive near there? on a side note, why are the new Ak-rowdies shirts black? Did we switch our school colors and were never informed? I think it was a terrible choice, but I would be interested to know the meaning behind that. We must be setting ourselves up for a black-out game or something. Would work if a.) Our teams wore black uniforms, but they don't b.) Stores actually sold black Zips apparel, but they don't c.) Can't State didn't wear black, but they do I'm pretty sure the reasoning for making the shirts black this year is because they try to change the color of the shirt every year. There has pretty much been a pattern of every two years having blue shirts and every year in between having a different color. They had gold one year and those were ugly. Two years ago they had white ones, which I actually liked. They just did blue last year, so I think they wanted to try something different. Black is a neutral color, so it's not bad. It's better than the bright pink some of the board members were saying they would be haha

Are they Blue or White (not that it matters, just curious). They are very similar to the home jerseys; white with blue lettering outlined in gold. Also, they have the gold stripes running up the sides of the jersey, like the real ones.
-
haha I'm actually wearing mine right now too! I love this jersey!

Well someone must have listened to the complaint regarding not enough performers directed at college age students, because Daniel Tosh is going to be at EJ in November. His show sold out and they had to add a second show. Performers like THAT are what EJ needs. I will be interested to see what kind of profit his show turns out.

I ordered one of the ones from the bookstore Monday, it's supposed to come in on Friday. For the money I spent on it, I'll be really mad if it's garbage

I would say Hartwick and Ohio State. I'm kind of disappointed that Ohio State is not on the schedule this year. I'm pretty sure we play OSU on September 29 in Columbus. Last time we played them in Columbus we brought more students than they did by far and ended up beating them on what I believe was their senior night. I feel like they are definitely a rival, if for no other reason than the fact that they are constantly worshiped across Ohio for supposedly being great at everything, and it feel GREAT to put them in their place with soccer.

This is my first post, I made an account a while ago and never posted haha. Anyway, I would be surprised not to see Kitchen start. The only thing I am curious about though, is on GOZIPS he is listed as a midfielder, although he plays as a defender with the U-20 National team. We have a strong starting four in the back, but not really too much depth (still love you though Enrique). In the midfield, we took two big losses, but we still have quite a few good kids who didn't start last year, like Speas and Caldwell. Furthermore, two of our incoming midfielders are products of the same program that produced Zarek, Kofi, Ampai and Blair, so I expect them to be solid players who get some good minutes. And up front, as far as the new kids go, the two Jamaican players are supposed to be really good, I would imagine one of them end up starting up front with Darlington, but I could be wrong about that one.
