Had to go back a little bit to find this thread, but I thought this was a good article and it belonged here Chivas' Gavin hopes to mark Recovery with Return

I believe April 16th. You poor thing, the basketball team has become so bad that you're looking forward to our football team playing. Forget that, even if we are playing ourselves, we'll still find a way to lose. I'm excited about spring soccer.

For those of you who are against anything "Porter" related or anything "Rooligan" related, what do you think about "Rubber City Renegades?" I think it sounds fairly menacing and is still very Akron-ish -

Hate to throw out another option when we already have so many, but if anyone likes it, what about "Rubber City Rooligans?" Kind of adds another piece of Akron history to the name, and uses alliteration, which I have already stated I enjoy haha. Just thought of this: if we go this route, maybe you could get Rubber City Clothing to be a sponsor or something? Or maybe just get shirts made there. And the O's in rooligan are tires like the shirts on their website! One more edit: apparently the name of Crew supporters in Akron is "Rubber City Hooligans." Is this too close? -

Well as of my vote, looks like there is a three way tie between Buchtel's Brigade, Parry's Army, and Exchange St. Rooligans. These are all solid names IMO. As far as "Parry's Army" goes, I don't think as many people are familiar with who Parry is, as much as how well known John Buchtel and Exchange St. are known. Or maybe it is just me. I still like the "army" part though. Maybe "Buchtel's Army?" Sounds pretty B/A to me Although I also like the alliteration in "Buchtel's Brigade." Alliteration is cool. Now as far as "Exchange St. Rooligans" There has been talk that "a real supporters group wouldn't use the word 'hooligan' in its name." Well guess what? I don't like being compared to other groups. We don't need to model what we do after what is done in European soccer. I HATE when the university shoves the word "roo" into everything, but this is PERFECT! I say, don't worry about what other places are doing, don't try to be like them. We will do what is right for us, because guess what? This is Akron! -
Is the Barley house usually where the Akron AO chapter watches matches? I don't see an Akron chapter on the website, and I'd be interested in joining for sure Ando, as of right now, the Barley House is where we're hosting our viewing parties. If its a Friday or Saturday evening, we'll be in the Banquet Room of the Barley House. We started up around October and we need to have 25 Paid Members to become an Official Chapter. After Saturday, we're up to 22 Official Members, and once we get to 25, we'll be listed on the American Outlaws Website plus we'll receive other benefits. You can sign up using the The American Outlaws Website and pay by PayPal for $19 http://www.theamericanoutlaws.com/membership (make sure you select your t-shirt size, type in Akron, Ohio as desired Chapter in the box, and let me know when you sign up) If you don't care to use PayPal, you can always pay cash at a viewing party. We have membership kits available. You can contact us and keep updated by sending an email to aoakron@gmail.com or the Facebook Page www.facebook.com/akronoutlaws Coach Porter and some of the Akron American Outlaws The 9th is my birthday and you can bet I wanna spend it watching the national team play Egypt! I thought going to the game would be a good birthday present for myself, but as it turns out, going to Egypt isn't in a college budget. I'm really looking forward to this. Ando you in? And better question, you buying me a drink?

from what i understand, the goal patrol was just a specific student group for soccer but eventually was renamed to the rowdies once that (the rowdies) became an officially recognized UA student organization. many of the core rowdies today were in the goal patrol. honestly, make sure whatever name you get is unique. ROOligans fits that. And if this takes off, it'd be nice to see this group make the west goal equally as noisy as the east goal. I think it was later discovered that some other school already had a "goal patrol" and so we thought it better not to recycle someone else's name. That is the story I've heard. I guess since I am graduating soon I would throw my support behind something new. Although it may sound just a bit cheesy, Rooligans is an awesome name. It shows our identity while paying tribute to traditional soccer hooliganism. I love it, and this is coming from a guy who HATES when they try to shove the words "roo" or "zip" into anything they can find. This time though, it think it's clever and actually makes sense. -
Will Trapp wins 2010 NSCAA player of the year. Can't wait for Trapp to be a Zip

Best part of the event for me: Today I got a ball signed by the entire Zips team (minus Kofi who had to run to catch a flight ). This wasn't just any ball, it is an authentic World Cup 2010 Jabulani that I won in a raffle at the Spring tournament in Michigan that the Zips played in and won. When I won the ball in March, I specifically remember thinking that I wasn't going to get it signed by the winner of the World Cup, and that if the Zips won the national championship I would get the team to sign it. I think it's my new most prized possession.

Enrique is the eighth. He was a senior who rarely saw the field. Today was about the first time anyone had mentioned Enrique leaving (besides senior night). I'm glad he got the recognition he deserved and got to speak with the other players. In many ways, he was the most popular player on the team, and anyone who saw the applause he got could see that. Hope he finds success in his future endeavors.

Will Akron Suffer From Seven Departing Players
yazan07 replied to Z.I.P.'s topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Really? That's interesting. He is definitely listed as a forward, and I was wondering why in another thread you made a potential line-up for next year and had him as an outside-back. As things stand now, we are going to have about 7 forwards on the roster, which seems a bit unnecessary to me (but what do I know?). It would make sense for some of them to play other positions if they are capable of doing so. -
Noooooo! Remember the last person to come from Notre Dame to Akron!? (I am aware that it is a different Notre Dame)

Yeah but he also played Perry Kitchen out of position too and I'd say that worked out pretty well. -
Hey let's have a round of applause to the Blue and Gold Brass Band who never plays music with offensive lyrics.

Well first of all Ando, welcome to Zipsnation. Second of all, I think your girlfriend was looking for you the other day. We have a ton of forward depth. There will be a logjam unless people transfer, cause we have Speas (good chance he'll probably up top) the two Jamaicans, Schmitt, Genovesi, Diaz, and Chiu. Rumor has it that Porter has said that Ontiveros/Brenes (who didn't play that much this season) are going to be better than Ampai/Gavin. Those two, coupled with Caldwell and #4 ranked in the nation Will Trapp should be a solid midfield. One player we have coming in that is supposed to be an attack-minded outside defender is DeAndre Yedlin from Seattle who is ranked 13th in the nation. I think Gallego is a centerback. That gives us two centerbacks if that is true. Not sure who plays the other outside back position; maybe Balogna, maybe Stevenson. Really, I think a player who has played as a midfielder can play those outside back positions because of the way Porter utilizes the position. Also, with the departure of his holiness Perry Kitchen, Porter may have two midfielders play more reserved to help the defense. -
YOU'RE KILLING ME SMALLS!!! I hope the special announcement is that Porter has discovered Darren Mattocks' younger brothers who are triplets and are all coming to play for the University of Akron next season.
