This was a tough game and the team showed a lot of heart, However, Harney and Walsh shooting 2 for 18 and Walshes loan basket coming with 5 seconds left was too much for this team to handle. Further, our foul shooting cost us at least 5 points. We had good shots but they would not go in. Tree was a monster on the glass once again. However, we gave up a lot of offensive boards the first half. The good news is that Chauncy looked good slashing to the basket. We need his productive minutes. The bad news is that Bentacourt was winded after playing the first 5 minutes. I don't understand how a college athlete can get tired but it did not surprise me that he cramped up. Ibitayo seemed very unsure of himself. He gave one nice feed to Forsyth who never moved to the ball and it bacame another turnover. Forsyth looks like he has no confidence when he is out there. I believe this team can win in Cleveland but everyone need to play well. Did not happen tonight. KD is a class act. He commented about Alex and said that people make mistakes and that the program was still supporting him. Lets hope a week of practice gets this team on the right track. Go Zips!

Actually, best case scenario is that Alex signed for a package at his friends house and did not know what was in the package. He testifies in the Grand Jury and convinces the grand jury he is in the wrong place at the wrong time. Grand Jury no bills the case and Alex is reinstated for next weeks game. I am not saying this is going to happen since nobody knows what the evidence is in this case. However, this is the best case scenario for the team and Alex. Right now this team needs to step up and play their best ball without him.

Good luck to the seniors on senior night. I hope Chauncy gets to start. He had given so much to this team. It is a shame he had an injury this year. Through the years he has always been great on the open floor, especially on the break. He had some great moves to the basket. He had his best game at Can't and brought the team back. I hope we can see more of that. Walsh, a gurard that can jump and rebound. That was something new in the Akron arsenal. He really seemed to know where the ball was going off the boards. A guard not afraid to attack the boards with the bigs guys. A very good shooter. We are going to miss him. Zeke is one of the players that has made the most improvement over the years at Akron. It seems like yesterday that people on this board were excited that he was coming to the school and his mother joined this board. My favorite play of the year was watching Zeke dribble from half court and dunk the ball. Well worth a terrible T. We will never see a shot blocker with his talent at this school. I hope each of the seniors enjoys their night. Go Zips

I remember staying for the net cutting at the Q when they won the tournament and we were going to the NCAA. Had a great time! Winning the conference gets us the first seed and an NIT bid. If it got us an NCAA bid I would have stayed and celebrated. The celebration on winning the conference seems premature when our goal is to get into the NCAA tournament.

I think after the big minutes in Ohio our starters looked tired in Buffalo. It was time for the bench to produce and it did not happen. We need Forsyth to find a groove and take some minutes from Zeke and Tree.
-
Harney isn't boxing out or rebounding tonight and it is hurting us on the zone. They are rebounding their misses. Bentacourt and Alex on the floor at the same time. That is a new look. Kretzner got hit in the back. The refs and replay both missed it since it was away from the ball.

Walsh for 3. Ibitayo on a fast break for 2 and maybe 3. We need everyone to step up. We cannot rely on Tree and Zeke to do it all
-
We need Harney and Walsh to more involved. They are double teaming Zeke and Tree. Forsythe is really struggling. Could not finish a dunk and could not make the foul shots. We need help from the bench players. This is not an easy game. Buffalo is handling our zone much better than last time.

Noticably absent from any recent discussions are complaints about Dambrot's substitution pattern. After th first 5 minutes of a game we would usually see a completely new team. Not happening any more. The starting 5 are really playing well. They are averaging almost 30 minutes that last half dozen games. Tree played 40 minutes at OU! This is unusual for a KD team in that he usually keeps his starters under 30 minutes except for Alex. Kretzer is an important 6th man and is getting around 20 minutes. The other 5 players are usually getting single digit playing time. I think KD is going with the players that are producing. Nobody can argue that these 6 players are producing and that is why we keep winning. If Kretzer can keep hot from the 3 line, that is just the boost this team needs to keep winning. Obviously, I would like to see the 7th throught 11th guys earn more playing time. I would love to see Chauncy play more since he is a senior and has given so much to this team through the years. However, he does not seem to be playing at full strength because of this injury. Chauncy was always great on the fast break and had great moves to the basket. This year he just seems to be relying on the 3 ball. He misses a couple of 3s and he is on the bench. Unfortunately, reminds me of Nitro from last year. Hopefully, he can heal and start earning more minutes. The only possible downside to the greater minutes is that these players could get tired. Hopefully, we can get a big lead on Buffalo to rest the starters and get more playing time for the other players. Looking forward to the game tonight. Go Zips!

Great block, but it looks like he walked even before he shot the ball.
-
I think KD will bring out the zone early and often. I have never seen a defense change a game like the one with Buffalo and they were completely frustrated with our zone.
-
. Kretzer 24 6-6 5-5 2-2 1 3 1 1 0 0 1 19 A perfect Game? Our bench had 22 points and Kretzer had 19 of them. We had said it each week during the streak, a new player seems to step up each night.

What a great game. This team really plays well in clutch time. This is amazing! Tree seems to get stronger at the end of the game. He also made his foul shots tonight. I thought the refs were terrible on the walking calls against the Zips. Baltic moved his feet all over the floor and no call. Alex never changes his pivot foot. They called at least 4 terrible walks against the Zips. Kreitzer had a great game. How does a freshman play that big in a big game.
-
I am guessing that Tree is upset about not getting any calls but he needs to play throught it.
-
The refs aren't helping Cooper runs into Tree and gets 3 foul shots. Baltic walks with the ball and then throws it out for a 3.
-
They are hitting Tree as he goes to the basket and no call. Then they call a cheap one on Zeke. I guess the refs are evening this out.

The Zips had another 3 point specialist just like Jonah who never saw any action till the end of a decided game. After somebody fouled out, KD put him in there in a very competitive game and he scored a couple of 3s. The crowd went wild. Can't remember the players name. -
Just read Elton Alexander's article about the game. Good article but for the following: "Marshall, Akron's celebrated post man, entered shooting 68.6 percent from the field, but BG's zone defense pestered him into a 4-of-13 night. Going 7-of-7 from the line aided his cause." I did not see any zone defense tonight. I thought they may play zone because Akron has sturggled against zone but all I saw was man to man. Zeke struggled because he took several fadeaways and jump hooks. In the 2nd half he set up lower in the block and got fouled going to the hoop and had some nice putbacks on offensive rebounds.

You are right about past Zips teams blowing games in the last 2 minutes and this team has thrived in the last few minutes of play. With about 4 minutes left Bowling Green had the ball, had cut a 12 point lead to 6 and could cut it to 4 when they had 2 terrible possessions. In the first their point guard forced up a 3 from several feet outside the 3 line. The next time down they threw the ball to Brian Walsh and the Zips scored a basket. Bowling Green was done. Our defense has really played well with the game on the line near the end of the game.

Just came back from the Jar and the crowd was very much into the game. Nobody left until the game was well in hand with about 90 seconds left. Bentacourt had the best game I have seen him play. Good defense, made his foul shots and was able to penetrate and dish the ball for an assist. In the first 10 minutes Zeke and Tree had difficulty scoring inside. We could not hit anything outside. Walsh has started faking the 3 and taking 14 footers and making those shots. Kreitzer should watch and learn. He did not score tonight. I was hoping to see Walsh more in the first half since he has been playing so well. Alex only have 2 points with about 5 minutes left. We always seem to struggle when he does not score. He had a great last 5 minutes and I think ended with 10 points. Look forward to North Dakota. Go Zips!

Thanks for posting that clip. The first exhibition game Tree brought the same intensity that he brings to every game. I love his interview. Wood is one of the reasons we have been finishing so well. His intensity never lets up, especially at the end of the game. He also has a very nice shot from 10-12 feet out and a great passer.
-
Tree had a good game and is probably one of the better passers on the team and helps against the zone.
-
I think we are going to be seeing a lot of zone, We just cannot seem to penetrate. Our bigs are inside and everyone else is outside with pressure. The zone forces the long pass and it turns into a turnover. Alex had 10 or more turnovers. Bentacourt had at least 2 in about 6 minutes of play. Harney and Walsh came up with some big 3 s at the end of the game. Our foul shooting was pretty poor again. We have to play better than this. This team needs a spark.

WE are up by 8, lets pull this out! My steaming keeps freezing. The picture is good though

Team have figured out that we have problems against the zone. You break down a zone with quick passes. Hopefully, we can figure this out.
