  1. What is weird is that the first few games as a freshman he looked really good. I remember that several people posted that he would challenge AA for the starting point guard spot. He then started driving the lane with nowhere to go and turning the ball over. He has lost his confidence to drive the lane. He is not a good shooter. He is not a very good passer. (Yes, that pass was in the 4th row) He has lost confidence is his game and it shows. The one thing I would like to do is hustle. He needs to go for rebounds or steals to earn playing time. Ironically, Pat is the same way. His first few games were amazing and had a great drop step moves and was scoring points. People on this board thought he should be playing more than Zeke. The refs starting calling him for walks on his post up moves and he lost confidence in his game. He did not play much toward the end of the season. He has been hit or miss this season. (Last night was a miss). I hope these players can regain that confidence they had when they first stepped on the court. Maybe they are too afraid of making a mistake, especially with all the talent on the floor. If Bentacourt would learn to shoot that would really help his game.
  2. The best example of that is when McAdams hit 2 threes in a row. He did not see the ball after that. A good team would try to get him the ball again. This team has talent but needs to play better as a team. We need to develop some consistentcy. Evens looked great at CSU and did nothing offensively. Pat has to be more consistent. Showed very little tonight. Harney, Tree Q and Big Dog looked good. Pat needs to play with more intensity or Big Dog will be getting more minutes.
  3. I find it hard to judge this team when they play a weak team. Is the team playing well or is the other team not that good. Tonight should be a good contest. I hope these guys realize that they are being judged every minute.
  4. Give Melo a little credit. He had a really nice alley oop pass and played under control the first half. He even banked in a foul shot. I practiced that today and that is not easy to do. HOwever, the second half he had a couple of turnovers and several fouls. He did not last long. I don't know how you can be a division one guard and not develop a consistant shot. He is not scoring, turns the ball over and picks up quick fouls. Not a recipe for success.
  5. Thanks for the video. I watched Zeke play and it was good seeing him again. He is the backup center and you can tell it is like his freshman year where he is on a learning curve. The offense did not flow through the center so there was not much going to Zeke. The starting center seems a little quicker than Zeke and more athletic. I hope Zeke stays with this team and as he gets more confortable we will see big improvement. Would love to see him make the NBA. Also, the broadcast indicated there was a snowstorm that evening and that explained the sparce attendance.
  6. Yes, I liked Q's defense. He played with a lot of intensity and kept his man in front of him. He also did a great job of distributing the ball. There were several occasions when there were 4 passes to find the open man. That was fun to watch. I also like us finally hitting the 3 ball. Even finally showed that he could shoot. It was great seeing Harney taking one open 3 and hitting it. It was great the MCadams was the player of the game hitting 4 of 5 from the 3 line. I also saw Evens beat his man and get a layup. Almost reminded me of AA I also like how bid dog looks very good with ball on the post. He did not get shook up when they double teams him. Has a great touch around the basket. Most importantly, I liked that we won.
  7. First time went to CSU for a game. Paid $40 for 2 tickets and got there just as they started the game. Gave the usher my tickets. He told me that there was no row P and that the tickets were not good. I told him that there was an empty row P in the next section and I would just sit there. He told me "no way" and I had to return the tickets and get good tickets. I went back to the ticket window and the line was 10 deep. I did not want to wait in line a second time and found a guy wearing a suit with a name tag. He said the tickets were good and took me back to the usher and told the usher to let us sit in the empty row. By the time we came back, Carmelo was off the court and we were losing 5-2. He came back with 2 "good tickets" but we decided to stay in our seats. I agree, the seats were far more confortable than the seats at the jar. I agree that CSU did not look very good. I would like to think it was our defense but not sure. Keith needs to work with our guys against the press. Pat looked completely lost trying to inbound the ball and then threw it against the basket for a turnover. A few minutes later we had another turnover against the press. Keith needs to find 5 guys that can handle pressure or this will be a long season blowing leads. I do not like to have McAdams and Kretzer on the floor at the same time. Having 2 guys just standing on the wings is a recipe for disaster. Would like to see them learn to drive to the basket and not just shoot threes.
  8. Bentacourt went from a starter to playing 3 minutes. I think Keith may be giving Ibatayo a chance for more minutes. He certainly shot the ball well. Something we have not seen from Bentacourt or Evens. Bentacourt had 2 bad passes and Keith yanked him both times. Time will tell if this is a major change or just an opportunity to see whether Ibatayo could play well and give him some confidence. I assumed that Tree was suspended for one game and Kretzer was hurt. Does anyone know for sure? It is so tough to see if this team is making progress when they are playing a division 2 game. It was nice seeing some assist.
  9. I remember the play that upset Tree. He was in the post and he got a weak pass that was intercepted and Middle Tenn. started a fast break. You could see Tree get upset and not hustle back. Keith pulled him and he never got back in the game. Tree is such a competitor that he was probably upset that he got pulled and never returned. Hopefully, he just needs time to clear his head. The dynamics of this team has changed without Zeke and Alex. We are not a good passing team and the guys have to work extremely hard for their points. I could understand that this year may not be as much fun as last year. However, you have to give it time. With so much talent, it would be terrible if he decided to quit at this point in the season.
  10. You are 100% correct. AA could penetrate and dish and shoot the outside shot. The only positive were getting with Evans and Betacourt is better defense. We need others to step up. If Harney, Kretzer and McAdams would step up at the wing, we could have Q play the point. That seems to be the best fix for right now unless Evens or Betacourt step up with their shooting or passing. Hopefully, with some practice these guys will learn to move without the ball
  11. Once again our assist (8 )to turnover (18) ratio is horrible. I did not see the first half but watched the 2nd half. On the good side, our point guards did not turn the ball over. However, Betacourt is not a good shooter but he continues to jack up threes. Evens does not appear to be any better. If they want to shoot, get closer to the basket and create some space. Otherwise, pass the ball and pick up an assist. Our point guards had a assist for the entire game. That leads to ugly looking basketball. Happy to see Forsyth contributing. Last year must have been tough on him. At the end, we had Q playing the point and evans was on the wing. Q looks better on the point. I think that will be his future unless somebody steps up. I know that Carmello is only a 2nd year player but a division 1 player needs to be decent shooter. Hopefully, things will get better.
  12. I am on their site but no video. Anyone have the video?
  13. I just finished watching the game and was very impressed with our Big Guys. I thought Pat had a great first half, Tree was amazing, Big Dawg played big and Q had a respectable game. However our wings and guard play lost the game when we could not make an outside shot. I yelled at the TV when Kretzer first shot was in the Eastern time zone, about 6 feets behing the 3 line. Is this the best shot you can take? It killed our momentum and St. Mary went on a spurt. I thought the commentators were spot on, Somebody needed to make some outside shots for Akron for us to stay in the game. It just never happened. They also noted that our offense had no flow to it. It was purely one on one. We had 8 assists to 19 turnovers. St. Mary had 16 assist to 10 turnovers. Evans did not have an assist and Carmello had 2. Carmello played good D but that is about it. He is not a good passer and does not have a good shot. He needs to get better or he will be on the bench. Ibitayo had an early stupid foul and never saw the court again. Hopefully, this team needs to start passing and develop an offensive flow. This team will struggle against good teams early. However, the talent is there to improve so that they can compete against good teams later in the season. Finally, the St. Mary's arena looked very similar to the JAr. I believe we would draw much better if we had a midnight game on ESPn
  14. I also thought the pre game intros were also lame. The best was the cartoon graphics one year when Zippy destroyed all the other mascots. I thought the drum line was also very good during the game. Would like to see more of the band doing something cool during the half. Are we going to see the same half time games the entire season. Musical chairs is good once, maybe twice but not the whole season.
  15. I remember watching a Hawaii football game starting at midnight. If Hawaii lost, the Zips would get a bowl bid because it would give Hawaii a losing record and they could not play in a bowl game. The opposing team took a big lead. I end up watching the game till 3:30 A.M. Hawaii came back and the zips were the only team that was bowl eligable that did not go to a bowl. I was miserable the next day and missed the sleep. I am hitting the DVR for this game.
  16. Good things! Our press looked was very good and created lots of turnovers. We did resemble VCU for short spurts. We played with great hussle at times diving for loose balls. Q is playing at another level. I thought he played great defense. He was the best of the point guards but tried to do much when they pressed and started to turn the ball over. We need to work on breaking the press with quick passes instead of trying to dribble throught the press. It was ugly at the end. Forsythe looked good for the first time in a long time. He played with energy and came up with some nice rebounds. He had a couple nice moves. I like how he tried to block some shots and I thought that he helped clog the middle like Zeke. I hope he can keep it up. Kretzer and McAdams played well. I especially like how McAdams hit the boards. Tree always plays well Bad things Carmelo did not have a good game. 4 turnovers in 15 minutes. 2 of the turnovers were unforced errors that were simply bad passes. The offense seemed to slow to a crawl in the 2nd half when he was out there. One time he drove to the basket and had nowhere to throw the ball. How many times did we see that last year. I noticed that when Evans fouled out, Keith did not bring in Carmelo. He needs to work on not turning the ball over. Our inbound plays still need work Only 10 assist against 17 turnovers will not win games against good teams. 57% from the line. Why can't we learn to shoot foul shots?
  17. Who do you want to benefit. The individual player or the team. Using hindsight, I think Zeke would be a better pro prospect if he would have redshirted his freshman year and would be playing this year as a senior. However, we needed him to play as a freshman to improve the team that year and it was not even an option. He had too much talent to sit a year.
  18. Saw a lot of good things out there. Diggs, Harney, Tree and Jackson looked very good. However, I would like to see more passing and movement without the ball. A lot of dribbling and one on one moves. Not sure that will work against good teams in the early part of the schedule. I cannot get the VCU game out of my mind. I think we have to be more athletic to complete with very good teams like VCU. Would like to see more from Kretzer and McAdams. I see them out on the wing and did not do much tonight. It was fun seeing all the freshman on the floor the last 5 minutes. I thought Cheatham and Jackson looked the best. Big dog is big but looked a little slow and winded after about 4 minutes. It is tough to judge against the competition tonight. I think this team has potential but must learn to play together as a team. I think if Harney can have a breakout year it might be the key. Tree and Diggs look like they are ready to go.
  19. We sit 2 rows behind the visitors bench and the last game he coached at the Jar was a loss but towards the end of the game he started shaking the hands of the Akron fans in the first row behind the bench. The Akron fans were going to miss him. A class guy and a great coach. Rest in peace.
  20. I am sure they are going to party hard if we win!
  21. I just bought my tickets from ticketmaster. I just read AD comment about tickets and doesn't look like there will be many left for the fans. Ticketmaster has only upper corner tickets left. However, I believe that some Michigan fans may leave after their game and maybe can move to better seats. Stubhub had better seats but over $100.
  22. Does anyone know how much akron tickets cost when you buy them from university or where they are located
  23. It was a great game. After the game it was great that the Q let the Akron fans on the court. Got to shake hands with Tree and Zeke. Had a great night. Let's keep it going in the NCAA. Go Zips!!!!
  24. Great game at the Q. This game could have gone either way. I was surprised that Can't went for the win at the end but I guess they felt that Akron had the advantage if we went into overtime since a lot of their team was in foul trouble. I was surprised to learn that Can't did not score in the last 4 minutes unti their final uncontested basket. I think Harney did a great job at the point. He played under control and had only a couple of bad turnovers. It is amazing how good Zeke and Tree were in the 2nd half. In the first half Can't was doubling the ball when it went to Zeke and Tree. They both had trouble beating the double team. In the 2nd half it seemed to open up where we got the ball down low and Can't was unable to double team. The key is getting the ball to the big men. Harney did a better job than Bentacourt in getting the ball down low. I think that Harney may start at the point. It was great watching Chauncy getting playing time. I thought he played tough D. Would like to see him keep driving to the basket. Wish we could get more offense from Walsh and Benracourt. I think they only score 3 points between them. Highlight of the evening. Trees alley oop dunk, his block where he palmed the ball in his hand after the block, and his 3 pointer. I thought the refs were bad in the first half. However, they let Zeke play with the 4 fouls even though there seemed to be some contact on some of his blocks. Looking forward to tomorrow. Go Zips!!!
