  1. RE: Hey ZipRoo.....just curious since you're relatively new on Zipsnation. How long have you been following the Zips? Over 35 years. Attended the school, go to most home games (and have for years), numerous away games (including the MAC title & Motor City Bowl), and my dad quarterbacked the Zips multiple seasons. Not just a passing interest. Thanks for asking.
  2. RE: "He said he has a lot of respect for Ian and the Rowdies, and that he thinks he has a good relationship with them." Ha, ha, ha. Wonder how many of the Rowdies would agree with this delusion? Cleauseu in Green tends to slant his arguments in defense of 1-11Coach, so I'd take this WackiLeaks investigation with a huge grain of salt.
  3. All right, i guess i just was impatient. I got my letter today Definitely a good move. I'm sold to renewing 2 tickets next year. You've gotta be kidding.
  4. The question is: Why did UA hire Brookhart in the first place, and what took them so long to realize, a) this guy recruits non-D1 players, and b ) this guy is not a good coach. ?? Any success that guy had was done with smoke-and-mirrors and talent brought here by the previous coach. Can we all agree on that? The mystifying thing is, after breaking free of a horrid hire in Brookhart (kept around too long, in part, because of his daddy-in-law's large $ contributions)....how does the school turn right around and jump down the exact same hole? That's the question Gaffney needs to be asking Proenza and carpetbagger Worstcill.
  5. There's a certain "element" here that's soooo sold on Ianello's unseen-recruiting acumen, and are also anxious to give him the always-a-good-idea "more time" (never fails, ya know!). He's such a hot commodity, can someone please contact Florida and tell them it would be a supreme sacrifice---after all, the "iCoach" has completely won over the Akron fanbase---but if they want to steal him away, I will gladly pay his airfare, one-way, from CAK.
  6. How is investigative reporter Dave in Green's undercover work going, getting to the core of why our primary weakness, nonCoach I-a-smell-o, dared to utter the blasphemous---and confoundingly stupid---words: "I'm not impressed with the AKRowdies." ?? I truly want to know. What is the result of this covert fact-finding mission?
  7. eh. Wouldn't it be easier to just bring in some "playmakers?"
  8. What's pretty amazing is that Bryan Wagner, while certainly a good defensive player (any player with an ounce of talent seems to stand out for Akron), has not even made an impression with the very media which covers the MAC. And yet, Rasor just pooh-poohed the very notion of moving the former record-setting running back to offense, at least for a try or for some trick formations, etc., because he was too valuable as a defensive player. Well, not good enough to even make HM in the conference, I guess. The lack of scoring should probably concern this coach a little more. Memo to the Irish guy: when your team doesn't score, you have zero chance of winning. Can anyone name just one offensive *playmaker* the Zips have for next season? Just one.
  9. Nice points, InfoFan. It's odd that people on this forum seem to attack anything and anyone, unless it's their idea, of course. The fact that Akron radio even HAS a local sports talk show is impressive and miraculous. For these so-called sports "fans" to tear down the young host and the program is inexcusable. The next step, of course, will be NO SHOW at all...and back to national syndication. But I guess these geniuses can't think two-steps ahead. That's the way it works, though. So, to paraphrase Lee Iacocca, "lead, follow, or shut up."
  10. And my reply to Ianello would be: Over a 5-month span, you were personally busy every single, solitary weekday from 3 to 6pm? In the midst of the nation's longest losing streak, and knowing your stands were growing more empty by the week, you couldn't take 10 or 15 minutes--allowing your overpaid assistants to run practice--so you could address the Akron fans personally? Someone needs to tell old "iCoach" that "building a program" consists of a whole lot more than berating players on the field.
  11. An insightful article detailing and ripping Wistrcill's "process" of hiring a coach....and you jump on a line about Lee Owens. Typical. Talk to me after your guy has won his second game.
  12. Oh good. Inspector Gadget's on the case.
  13. Guess the outside observers aren't quite as optimistic as those so happy about a win over a pathetic Buffalo team. In fact, Wistrcill is targeted as being "hoodwinked." http://srcleveland.wordpress.com/2010/10/0...n-look-foolish/ As for this talk about Ianello's so-called recruiting prowess, I recall Lee Owens having quite a few UA players head to pro careers. Should we label him a recruiting guru, as well? Or just a better coach of talent? Or both? Hmm. Like the article says, Wistrcill should've read the book, not just looked at the cover.
  14. "That's right, Sarah, I've got this new guy, Newman, dictating the game plan...so we can't possibly lose Friday." "And the fact that it rankles those know-it-alls (snicker) on ZN makes it that much sweeter. Ah, who am I kiddin', Sarah, they love me."
  15. Pretty much says it all.
  16. Sigh. Yeah, keep beating that drum, Dave. There's no mystery to your thought process.
  17. Sadly, it's lame posts like the ones above that really defeat any credibility of the posters here on ZipsNation. We're looking at a choice: an Ohio guy, Fickell...versus a Notre Dame recruiter, Ianello. No, until he receives his chance next season, no can say with 100% certainty that Fickell will be a great college head coach. But are you somehow implying that Ianello's credentials deserved the nod over a homegrown OSU guy? I really doubt that Can't State will be as stubborn and stupid as Akron. And yes, I will, indeed, be here to say "I told you so." You folks don't seem to grasp....we're 0-11. No one wanted Ianello. Other alternatives were on the table. Tressel made a freakin' donation to UA, his alma mater and former place of employment, just to get someone's attention in Buchtel Hall. It's obvious, Fickell is a family man ready for his next step...a head coaching job. GP1 seems so "sure" that it wouldn't have happened; I'm just as sure otherwise. I have high-placed inside info that Akron never even returned the call. That's arrogance and single-mindedness, folks; TW wanted his peon, period. And the total destruction of our football program is the end result. You can poke fun at typeface colors, you can be snide....but you all know, I speak the truth. {Oh yeah, and Dave in Green, your defense of Ianello and UA hirings is as played out as anything in the history of ZipsNation. And now, I invite you to share your sports I.Q. with us...}
  18. I say black...you say white. I say white...you say black. I get it, now. You just want to argue any point. We're clear now. You're happy with Ianello. And you're delusional if you believe Fickell wouldn't be on our sidelines right now if Akron had offered him the job. Trust me on that. So, I guess I'll just agree with all of YOUR points, and then you'll be forced to argue against them. Guess that's the game. Okay. It's fun. (And the only way he doesn't wind up at Ken+ State is if a more attractive offer is made....and that is quite likely. Google his name and read what's being said nationally. It's really amazing the disrespect that Ohio State gets on this site.)
  19. Watch and see how quickly he's snapped up as soon as OSU's season has ended. How blind can you be, dude? (And if you're nitpicking, I guess we can always ask: How close would Ianello ever come to winning any award for dedication to team or community? He won't even SPEAK to the press, he hates the AKRowdies, and umpteen players have quit rather than listen to his constant berating. Got any other defense?)
  20. Here's the link to Marla's blog story at ohio.com: http://marla.ohio.com/2010/11/osus-fickell...esume/#comments Luke Fickell, OSU’s co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach, enhanced his resume Tuesday when he was named Division I’s assistant coach of the year by the American Football Coaches Association. Fickell has coached nine All-Big Ten players, four All-Americans and 10 who have played in the NFL During his nine years at Ohio State, the Buckeyes have won five Big Ten titles, participated in seven bowl games and twice played for the national championship. Did anyone else just get a very SICK, QUEASY feeling in the pit of your stomach? Yep, Akron snubbed this guy....so we could rush out and hire a recrooter from a losing program. (Oh, and be sure to note Marla's commentary that Can't STATE should most definitely consider this guy for their vacancy.) And it's funny...Luke sure doesn't "look" like a guy who would alienate players, coworkers, fans and media, does he? Do you think the P.R.-savvy Jim Tressel would have anyone but a high-caliber guy on his staff?
  21. ZipsWin, I must disagree with you about 1350. I enjoy having an "Akron" sports talk show, as opposed to hearing Reghi rant and Trivisonno eat daily from 3 to 6. If you want to talk (or hear) about something other than what they're discussing, pick up the phone and ask a question...or make an observation. I've never, BTW, heard the show diss either UA or the MAC. That's kind of absurd to suggest. But what are we to make of a new head coach who won't even communicate with the fans thru the flagship media channels? Is he afraid someone might ask about his missing credentials for being hired?
  22. Yes, how interesting is it that Mark Dantonio (currently at Michigan St.) is #2 in the poll. I bring up his name because he was a former defensive secondary coach under Jim Tressel at OSU. So, I guess Tressel aides DO have some success when they're given head coaching opportunities. Unfortunately, Proenza failed to get the memo on this, after Tressel offered AKRON our own OSU disciple, Luke Fickel, complete with a high-recommendation from Tress himself. No, the great minds at Akron, affected by too many polymers, decided that an unknown recroooter from a horrid Notre Dame program--also a guy with zero head coaching experience--would be just the IDEAL guy to lead Akron back from obscurity. Who needs any ties to the most-popular college in the state, and one of the top programs in the country? Certainly not UA! No, Akron chose a PR nightmare who not only has led us to the school's first-ever winless season, but who also has alienated his athletic co-workers, his players, the media and what little fanbase still remains. Can we all agree, this was a LOSE-LOSE hiring for all involved? Please, Can't, hire Fickel and prove once and for all that the folks in Buchtel Hall have no clue.
  23. From the Beacon article now posted on Ohio.com: ''That's our whole focus here, to let the seniors leave with a very positive feeling." Yes, Ianello, your "seniors" defeating a 2-9 Buffalo team will surely send them off with a "very positive feeling." Dude, you're so out of touch with reality, I wonder how you find your way home.
  24. I assure you, Big Zip, I quoted the radio hosts EXACTLY as they responded to the caller. There was no attempt to portray the coach as anything other than stubborn and uncooperative. If they sang a different tune earlier, I'm shocked. But let's be honest, college coaches need to also be PR agents for their programs....otherwise, as you say, Waters and even Tressel wouldn't bother with weekly shows. Again I reiterate, I don't care to hear one word drip out of Ianello's sagging mouth, but that doesn't change the fact: It's his responsibility.
  25. You folks who truly believe that Wistrcill and Ianello had this "master plan" to "remove the bad elements" (whatever that's supposed to be) from the team to ensure future success....REALLY?! SERIOUSLY?! Do you believe that, or are you hoping that's the case (excuse)? Because, from where I'm sitting, you're giving two know-nothings a WHOLE lot more credit than they deserve. Honestly, what have either of those guy shown you that makes you believe they have such a grandiose scheme in progress? It's laughable to even suggest such a thing.
