  1. Also, TW sends his patented message to Hunter & the new coach: "Don't worry! The cupboard is not bare. You can win right away!" As for George Thomas, I believe he's reviewing the new Chip-Wrecked movie today.
  2. In my mind, Proenza's annual outrageous "bonus" checks should be weighed against botched decisions like Tom Wistrcill and the resulting chaos. Luis's one personal poor decision cost UA millions of dollars. How is that worthy of a "bonus?" I mean, the guy is way overpaid to begin with.
  3. Thanks for explaining what "tiebreaker" means. No one here knew.
  4. K-e-n-t State found a "leader" (wasn't that hard, either, when they didn't have ND blinders on)...and I do believe Luke Fickell also would've connected with players and fans here as a leader much more than we realize over the past two years. UA only has to look to its basketball and soccer programs as examples of leadership. How they allowed TwitterTom to stray from that mold and hire the Anti-Coach is the multi-million dollar question. Landscape for learning, my butt. Hard lesson, wasn't it, Luis?
  5. computer malfunction
  6. I do prefer a coach in his early to mid-30s, for some reason. Kids today seem to relate to a high-energy guy nearer their age...although I am not discounting *respected* veterans like Glen Mason or Jim Tressel, by any means. But with the names that seem to still be in our mix, I have no problem with a 30-something guy. Not sure Bajakian's resume outweighs Loeffler, and Scot does have the local connection on his side. And, BTW, the $75,000 wasted on "search committees" two years ago and now? Most guys here on ZNO would've provided a top list of candidates for $50 and lunch at the Chuckery. Think about that next time, YouTubey. Haven't you squandered enough of Zippy's nest egg?
  7. I'd venture to say that every head coach currently at Akron has FAR more job security than our lame-duck AD. And firing him would no doubt be seen as a POSITIVE to any incoming football coach. I also agree, no coach should try to assume AD duties, as well. Coaching is a 365 day a year job, with scouting, recruiting, etc. It would be as crazy as a Browns coach trying to also be Offensive Coordinator...or General Manager. Unmitigated disasters. I think Dennison may do both jobs at Walsh, but that's a much smaller scale, and he's had vast experience in both positions. That's the rare exception where it could work. And, BTW, if Jim Dennison would ever consider resuming the AD role here at Akron when he's finished coaching, I'd welcome that move with open arms, as would the majority of Zips Nation.
  8. He seems to enjoy calling radio talk shows. RE: A well deserved vacation. (Yeah, what was he on the Zips beat for....a week?)
  9. Where are WNN and InTheZone? I thought they said Winters would die to have the Akron job. Is their info flawed? Or did they just not take into account that Winters would have to see TW's mug in the flesh before he signed the contract. BTW, I've gotta hand it to Winters big-time. Anyone who can tell TW to take his job and shove it after being dissed for the clown and his down-the-pants clipboard, frankly, is okay in my book. Score one for the Good Guys.
  10. Maybe Proenza deserves some blame for this as well. It's easy to see in retrospect that TW is an albatross in this process. Probably should have canned him first and relied on a UA search team. Absolutely, Wistrcill is the albatross. Who in their right mind would want to work for this guy?? Winters no doubt looked at him, then looked over at the highly-respected and class act Rob Fournier...and said: Boys, you wasted your gas money on this trip. Proenza is culpable, in that HE ALONE wanted Tom Wistrcill here. The selection committee for the AD did NOT. I have that on first-hand authority. Therefore, Proenza and Wistrcill SHARE the blame in this entire fiasco. They'd better pull a rabbit out of their collective butts on this one, or both of their heads should roll. Time to let someone with some athletic expertise take charge.
  11. As I said before, if Winters isn't hired....then the guy they DO get better completely blow us away.
  12. If you were PW, how excited would YOU be to take the call from a guy who--only a scant two years ago--blew you off in favor of the single worst head football coaching hire in college history? Suck on that one for a minute... Before you even step foot on campus, you know that your new boss would be a buffoon in the decision-making department.
  13. Two comments on posts above: 1) Give the new guy a "six-year deal minimum" ???? ARE YOU NUTS?! Hopefully UA learned its lesson with the 5-year deal it awarded to a first-time loser. 2) Please stop using the "we fired a coach after only two years" as a negative point to boost your argument. Firing Ianello after two years was the ONLY positive thing TW has done at UA. Sheesh. What, did you want him to STAY or something?? Some mornings, the level of stupidity really takes off...
  14. No, we are looking for a team that wins. I want a team that odds are they are going to win on Saturday. I think anyone that wants less than that should have been mad that Brookhart got fired. "Compete" isn't what we are looking for, "compete" means we are happy with a 3 point loss. No, I for one want to WIN!!!! No doubt, I want wins, too. But the Wistrcill/Ianello Team brought about such regression, just basic "competing" will be a huge step forward. Tragic as it is.
  15. Regardless of WINS at this point, I think UA fans are looking for a coach and team that can simply "compete" on Saturdays, and pull off the occasional upset. What TW's protoge, Ianello, brought us was two full years of embarrassing, boring, non-competitive blowouts. Between the Zips on Saturday and the Browns on Sunday, we've wasted more time suffering through ridiculously-unwatchable football than should be permitted by law.
  16. I guess the big question is, why should these football coaches HAVE to be wary of Tom Freakin Wistrcill? Why does the man who virtually destroyed UA football still have a job here...much less, a say in who the next (botched?) hire will be?? At the D-1 level, TW, you don't get "do overs"...not with fans, not with coaching candidates, and if there's any justice, not with the brass at Buchtel Hall, either. Imagine the Zips having to "settle" for desperate leftovers, all because no one wants to be associated with the stench of the AD office at UA. Rob Fournier was a well-respected class act here at Akron. I would bring him back in a heartbeat. I enjoy seeing the pros and cons regarding Winters. I suppose I could be sold either way. However, if Winters is NOT hired here, the coaching choice better just blow us away--in a good way. Otherwise, pitchforks will surround the JAR.
  17. Can we still vote for Glen Mason?
  18. Interesting. I don't know why people didn't think of Mason earlier. Don't even know what he's been doing lately. Glen Mason would definitely make a "splash" announcement, and yes, I would equate his coming to Akron... to Solich & OU. This is starting to get interesting again.
  19. RE: "I think he probably is a good coach...just not a good HC. He appears like a bright guy... Doug, it's much too early on a Friday to be this tipsy. Ianello...a "good" coach? "Appears like a bright guy?" Is this new material for your comedy routine, or are you in the first stages of dementia?
  20. I coined the phrase, "The Graveyard of Coaches" a couple of years ago. Not exactly true today, but it was then. Dennison never sniffed even a 1AA job....Faust, enough said....Ownes, Ashland. It deserved the phrase. Howevere, Brookhart and now Coach I are in D-1A programs. No longer the graveyard in my mind, but still not the best of career choices. I believe Dennison could've had lots of D-II jobs, and even some D-1 jobs, after he was "promoted" to UA athletic director. At his age, though, I think his career from that point may have followed exactly the path he wanted. As an addendum question: If Luke Fickell still had interest in the UA job, how many here would rather give him the job over Winters?
  21. Let's cast it: Rodney Dangerfield as Charlie Weis Richard Kind as Rob Ianello TBA We should limit the cast to people who are still alive. Your suggestions are good, but it will take a couple of stage hands to move Rodney to his marks. Have you seen the obese Weis move? This film could easily be the next "Weekend at Bernie's."

  23. Because YouTube Tom is a buffoon when it comes to hiring personnel. He should in no wise be involved in this process, and furthermore, he should be grateful he's even employed. Imagine the money this guy has cost the University. Staggering.
  24. He should've left two years ago when TW saddled him with the worst alleged "coach" in D-1 history. Did anyone really expect different results than the debacle we've witnessed over two seasons? Shoot, Wagner needs to look out for #1 at this point, and try to ensure an NFL career. Thanks, YouTube Tom W. Ianello is the gift that just keeps on giving. I scratch my head in wonderment: How in the world did you ever get this job?
  25. Wonder if he'll report on this particular thread.
