  1. UNC now up 3-1. Speas just came on and scored with his first touch. They said it was his second of the game, so two goals and an assist for Speas in this game so far?? Wow. Ben Speas won ACC Tournament MVP Award That really hurts! What does Akron lack the most right now? Offense. Zips sure could have used Speas around here lately. Perhaps I am alone, but I am still having a tough time letting this one go.
  2. You got it. That was the Henry move.
  3. DarNag's is objectively the best. I would vote Chiumiento's second with that tight turn. Hassili's goal looked really lucky to me; not even sure that was an intentional shot.
  4. Well deserved all around, especially Trapp. He's an animal. Totally agree; #6 is the real deal! One or two more like him and we will take back the championship in 2012. FS: I have worn a #6 jersey every match since I purchased it at the beginning of 2010 season. You may remember that #6 and #10 were offered in the Team Shop, Nagbe and Ampaipitakwong respectively. Prior to this year’s OSU match, I was approached in Manny's by Trapp's neighbor from Columbus, accompanied by Trapp’s mother. She was too shy to ask if I was her son’s primary fan. So, she convinced her neighbor to accost a drunken stranger (me) about it. Of course, I replied that I wore #6 in her son’s honor. What else was I going to say? Big Wil Trapp fan here!!!
  5. how cliche...Yes, We Will Rock You is cliché.And YOU SUCK! at every opposition Goal Kick is so very fresh?!?WWRY is easy, recognizable, participatory, and fun, especially sung organically without canned music. Many of the suggested chants and songs are too complicated and unfamiliar. I am not so much a proponent of WWRY as I am of something that the whole stadium will quickly pick up and actually do.
  6. Perhaps Akron should become the first independent soccer program. That sure would garner headlines.
  7. According to http://www.gozips.com/sports/msoc/2011-12/schedule, first match is confirmed @ 5:00 pm.
  8. We Will Rock You was written with this purpose in mind.
  9. I could not say it any better.Is F/11/11/2011 really @ 5:00 pm for the top-seeded match?
  10. I suggest the AK Rowdies add White Stripes’ Seven Nation Army to the repertoire. That would sound awesome in conjunction with the Pep Band (or any band)!
  11. Right On, Trimmy10!Shame on all of us should the Akron Pep Band no longer feel welcome! Yes, they need to coordinate with the AK Rowdies. Easily done! And yes, it can be very loud when right next to them. Work with these people. Incorporate their enthusiasm. Agree on something bigger and better. 99% NCAA Soccer programs would kill to get such support! The Pep Band needs educating; the rhythm is different for soccer. They need to be taught when to play. Which of you sluggards are the officers of AKR? Oh yeah, right now is time for your leadership!!!!Sorry, Bobby, but telling anyone that they should not attend because it cramps our particular style is just wrong. Especially right now, we need everyone we can get. Hard times are ahead for this program. The fashionable soccer fan will soon be tested. The going is getting tough and we are about to see who the faithful really are.
  12. I appreciate both opinions offered here, GoZips’ and bisbee’s.Of the two, I lean toward bisbee on this one. No score = no win. There is too much indecision in the final third. They are not sure how they want to attack and when. Zips had better figure it out or they risk not even winning the MAC tournament. Northern Illinois are salivating for another shot at the Champs. If poor communication is a problem, it can only be exacerbated by a different lineup every match, not to mention copious substitution. Porter is substituting more liberally than at any other time is his Akron tenure. I am not sure what he is after with all the lineup changes, but he is clearly not happy with something. Players are recruited to this program that can play 100+ minutes without noticing the running. If they cannot run, Porter will pass on recruiting them. I refer to the oversized players who stereotypically go to Big 10 schools. These programs substitute at every opportunity during matches because their players cannot run well and also because it automatically breaks the rhythm and flow of the match. They play a bastardized version of the game that does translate to the next levels. In the international game, agility and technique trumps size and strength. Size and strength are bonus.Porter wants to change not only collegiate soccer but American soccer as a whole. He seeks to make NCAA soccer relevant again to the international stage by cultivating the right type of American player. That is why Klinsman wants him on the USNMT staff. I invite any response.
  13. Sorry my voice can only carry so much over a freakin pep band. I'm not here to argue. We have 5000-10,000 soccer fanatics chanting and singing in unison, the pep band is welcomed back.Did you just wake up from a really good dream?Yes. It lasted for about 4 years. Call me Buffalo Van Winkle.
  14. The magic is over; the spell has been broken. It was foolish to believe we could ride this wave forever. When was the last home loss? vs. South florida in the 2007 NCAA tournament? Anyone?Pardon me while I peruse the view from the Y bridge.
  15. From the grandstands, the band sounds great. I like it. There just needs to be more coordination between the band playing and the chanting.
  16. Very interesting!I agree with Ken Mack that Kitchen will play center back for the U23s. Klinsman prefers playmaking/distributing center backs, a la his stellar long-time teammate Lothar Matthäus. In Klinsman’s 4-4-2, the diamond is in the back, not in the midfield. Kitchen would play that not often heard (anymore) position of Stopper. He will excel in that role. And yes, Ines Sainz is smoking hot! Way too hot for sports reporting. Holy…..!
  17. DarNag's first professional goal has my vote; hands down!At my age, I have witnessed a fair amount of strikes, and that is among the very best I have ever seen, on any level.
  18. That's not what Andy Chiu's girlfriend said.WHat!?!?!?!?!?
  19. Good points all!Can you agree with this? The system and formation were the same, the execution of which changed according to personnel. You offer a good example of this in that Gallego simply cannot speed up the flank as can Yedlin. Nor can Gallego recover at Yedlin’s pace. The shakeup in the back line remains bit of a mystery to me.
  20. I don't necessarily think they would need to, as they would be able to sign as homegrown players with Columbus and New England, respectively. Don't quote me on this because I'm not exactly sure how it works but I think because they played for those teams' academies they could sign directly with them. Let's just hope that whether or not that is a path they can take, that they chose to stay for their senior year. Although Mattocks is arguably our most important player right now, if we were to only have to really replace him next year, I think it could be a very successful year.I do not claim to fully understand the GenAd deal, and I understand even less how the MLS academies sign “homegrown” players. I have researched both and I am more confused now than ever. I would love to get my hands on the actual contracts. Suffice it to say that the GenAd contract is a much better, air tight, deal for an underclassman.Any experts out there?
  21. Tactics did not change for Wake Forest, though personnel definitely did. Akron executed the same game plan they have employed throughout the Porter tenure. Incidentally, Wake Forest plays the exact same system. I cannot recall an opponent so closely mirroring Akron’s style. One might argue that Akron employs the Wake Forest style, as WF has been doing it for much longer. It is puzzling that Yedlin, having started over Dagilis all year, saw only 10 minutes playing time. Had Yedlin been injured, he would not have played at all, so injury was not the reason. Perhaps Yedlin was ill, but Bisbee’s comments pretty much dispel that notion. And I do not buy the Senior Night explanation either. Senior Holmes inexplicably played very sparingly as well. This is a head scratcher. I have been harshly critical of Dagilis this year, especially during the Spring. In all fairness, against WF, Dagilis played the best ball he has since 2008. Props to local boy! IMO, the first WF goal was really due to a systematic defensive breakdown rather than individual play.Perhaps Porter is managing the squad as one would a professional side. Whoever impresses during practices earns the playing time in the first 11, lending no gravity whatsoever to scholarship structure or previous accolades. Consequently, it is likely the lineup will change match to match for the rest of the campaign. Although I can understand Porter managing this way, it does not bode well for a championship season. On the bright side, it is unlikely any player besides Mattocks will turn professional during the off-season. It sure would be great if Darren elected to stay on another year, but I do not see it. At this point, neither Barson nor Caldwell can secure a Generation Adidas contract.
  22. Looks like it will remain dry after all. I will be there. What else do we need, I mean, aside from Jameson?
  23. Very interesting! Will definitely watch that matchup closely. Zips should have bagged Okoli as well. Young man is on a roll; he will warrant tight marking.Bisbee, stop down to Lot 9, on Exchange Street, right in front of Infocision Stadium. Tank123 in town?
  24. Is Matt Foldsey from St. Ignatius in the bag yet? He is a F, no?Yeah he is. I've heard he is a good player but have never seen him play.Watching boys District Final right now. Cleveland St. Edwards @ Cleveland St. Ignatius. 0 - 0 end of regulation. Foldesy sure looks like a Zip to me. Not sure if audio will link or not.http://nhsbn.ezstream.com/play/index.cfm?f...A&Org=nhsbnEdit: Wildcats over Eagles 3 minutes from PKs. Golden Goal!
