The Akron till I die one is actually in the Rowdies repertoire, we just don't use it that often. Use it tomorrow, Jacob! Now is the time! It sounds appropriately English.

I saw this kind of crap versus Fullerton and it was not a pretty sight. I only heard the audio of the Fullerton match. However bad that was, expect worse from OSU. From the coach on down, OSU hates that Akron is better. This is our biggest rivalry, Bisbee. Hopefully the refs come prepared and dont let anything get out of hand. That's on the field. I hope the security guards come prepared and don't let anything get out of hand off the field. I would hate to see this rivalry ruined and our atmosphere behind the goal at games be ruined because it's too intense and people can't control themselves. I hope those wearing red will not be boisterous or uncouth, before, during, or after the match. Such indiscretion would be very foolish!

	Will Luke Holmes start tomorrow?
 -
You youngins' come out and pack the house! "Fill the Hill" as they say. This will be a rough match, with many cards, possibly injuries. It matters not what the respective records are.

I have not watched practice in months. Is it likely that Holmes will start vs. OSU?
 -
And that is how one comes back from suspension. That a boy, Darren!!!

	Mattocks already scored? Seriously?

Time to look at another GK?
fknbuflobo replied to GoZipsGoZips's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Yes, that is correct. An OSU win knocks down Louisville further in the polls, and also bolsters Akron's RPI. -
Meves – 6 - Why is he consistently outkicked by counterpart (punts and GKs)?Yedlin – 7 - superb except in his passing.Gallego – 5 - What is up with this young man? He has lost his way.Barson – 7 - Mr. Consistency.Mayer – 6 – erratic but talentedBrenes – 4 - tentativeTrapp – 7 - anchor in the middle of the pitchCaldwell – 7 – Scotty on the spot.Quinn - 5 - looked tiredStevenson – 7 – good and improvingBarrett – 3 - He looks only for through ball, never to post up. How many offsides?Schmidt – 7 – spark of the benchBalogun – 7 – solid - Does he start for the rest of season?Portillos – 5 – valuable off the bench but not yet at his best
 -
I too look for Holmes in the withdrawn F role, which is essentially what everyone is trying to find a different way to say.Incidentally, Yedlin played a whale of a match Sunday.
 -
Is Balogun injured? I did not notice during the match, but after viewing the recorded broadcast, I wonder if Brenes will start vs. CalPoly. Also, I wonder who will start at Forward with Mattocks serving a minimum (and well deserved) one game suspension.I would rather a look at Chiu than see Schmidt start.

Sounds like the "host" is trying to make amends for referring to the AK-Rowdies by some other name a year ago -- what was it? He's a good guy, though, so humor him! I remember the soccer games were played between the HS band show and the football pre-game during Acme-Zip Saturdays -- however I never witnessed one as they always came about 3-4 hrs before the football game. Not sure how many folks were present -- but probably more than the 500 or so who watched at Lee Jackson in the day. I hope I can get off work at 1 o'clock to watch Friday. Go Zips!Z.I.P.,If what you are saying is accurate, then there probably were not so many people watching the Soccer matches several hours before the Football games. It certainly seemed like a huge crowd to me at the time. Memory is often distorted when recalling from age 11. Regardless, I am positive that I saw many of the Soccer matches. My father made that happen. We would generally arrive before half time of the Soccer, eat after the match, watch warm ups and first half of Football. There were sometimes fireworks, I think at half time of Football. -

My earliest exposure to Zips Soccer was in the Rubber Bowl circa 1976. Old timers remember that Soccer matches were played directly before Football games. The ACME Zips game at the beginning of the Fall seasons used to be a hunormous local draw. Consequently, sellout crowds were introduced to Zips Soccer.George Nanchoff is still the best Offensive MF I have seen play for the Zips. He was unstoppable! Off the dribble, long pass, short pass; he could do it all. George was just as technical and creative as his son is, but superior to his son athletically (sorry, Mikey). George had good straight on speed and was strong on the ball. -
Gallego under red card suspension?Mayer still injured?Dagilis at CB? Way to go Matty!

	Thanks, bobbyake!

Very sad tidings!Shaun was an excellent player, one of the best Zips ever.

No doubt that Zakuani should have won the Hermann. The Zips just didn't get enough credit at the time. I think we were still considered to be in a weak conference (still true) without much regard to our out-of-conference schedule. The Sounders taking Steve #1, followed by the Zips' outstanding performance in 2009 finally got everyone on board that Akron Soccer is the real deal.Where others fault the writers for not checking facts, I credit them for recognizing Zakuani was the true best mens' collegiate soccer player in 2008. (In fact, who won the Hermann for 2008? I don't remember.)Marcus Tracy from Wake Forest. Not a bad player at all, but Zak11 was better.Regardless, a journalist should get his facts straight. -

I actually saw loads of raw talent in 2009, and I was sad to see Mwila leave for VCU. He sure could be starting on this current team right now, though probably not last year. -

Yes. This should have been easily researched. -

That is a good comparison. In 2008, Zakuani was to NCAA soccer as Henry was to the EPL in 2004. Both were playmaking Forwards equally capable of passing or beating to goal. They even both preferred starting from the left side with the ball. -

				Suggestion for the Ak-Rowdies
fknbuflobo replied to zips4ever2008's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
My question would be....would you really want to add to the negative stigma of soccer in American as an insignificant Euro-sport? As I've run around bragging about Akron being national champs in soccer since December, this is normally the response I get from people outside of the Akron soccer community. Wouldn't european flags just add fuel to that fire, and place a major obstacle in front of our efforts to make the sport, especially at the college level, more appealing to American sports fans?Let's all give Skip-Zip a break. He thinks the term "Becks" refers to a TV actor bloviating in front of a blackboard, rather than an over-the-hill Chelsea footballer. Not the best example, but it does give an idea of what futbol is up against in the USA. The Univ of Hawaii men's volleyball team normally has players from several differrent counties, and fans bring flags from all the counties to wave. I once brought a flag to wave for a Serbian. Ended up getting in trouble that way -- seems they had sold me the flag of Yugoslavia, pre-1990. That'll teach me. It always pays to do your homework.
